The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 3, 2025, sent to the company Jun 5, 2025, published by CPSC Jun 20, 2025

The product, in the report: https://www.purewaterinc.com/product/mega-classic-automatic-water-distiller-made-in-the-usa/ The Mega Classic is the best water distiller on the market, with the longest warranty in the industry. This automatic water distiller produces up to 12 gallons of distilled water daily and has a 10-gallon storage tank, built-in pump, and self-draining feature that makes maintenance a breeze. The Mega Classic is proudly made in the USA with 304-grade stainless steel.

My Mega Classic water distiller, manufactured by Pure & Secure, experienced an electrical failure. The AC adapter visibly melted and partially burned at the plug end. Inside the distiller, the corresponding internal power socket and wires are charred. The manufacturer has admitted to having known problems with undersized wiring but has not issued a recall or proactive notice. To my eye as a consumer this failure represents a serious risk of fire and electrical shock. My household lost access to drinking water due to this failure on 5/19/2025. I contacted the company on 5/19 via an email and phone. The technician contact had left the company and I did not speak with anyone until 5/22 to remove covers and expose faulty, fire-damaged wiring. The technical contact indicated they would ship out the necessary wires for me to replace. I received the wires on 5/27/2025. However, the company performed inadequate troubleshooting and did not include the AC adapter wire that plugs into the outlet, which was also damaged. I contacted on the morning 5/28 requesting expedited shipping, but received no reply. I called at the end of 5/28 and was told they would only pay for regular shipping, and due to their lack of urgency missed the shipping cutoff on 5/28, but would contact me and provide a quote for overnight shipping on 6/2. I did not hear from them. I called and emailed them on 6/2. I am concerned that other households may be at risk as they are aware of an electrical, undersized wire situation with units manufactured prior to a certain date. The technician was aware of the problem and indicated that they have since started manufacturing units with heavier-gauge wiring, yet have not notified consumers proactively.
