No one hurt Made Jul 31, 2026, sent to the company Aug 6, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 20, 2026
The product, in the report: The Avenlur Magnolia 7-in-1 has been featured on national television and in magazines and includes: Monkey bars Mini rock-climbing wall Wood ladder Swedish slide Swing rope Rope ladder Swing
Product Avenlur Magnolia (wooden climbing play set / toddler climber)
Manufacturer / Brand Avenlur
Product category Childrens play equipment indoor climbing structure
Was anyone injured? No injury, but a serious near-miss. A child fell but was not cut or struck by the broken pieces.
Incident description:
While my child (30 lbs, a normal weight for a toddler climber) was climbing on the Avenlur Magnolia set, one of the load-bearing wooden rungs snapped in half under his weight. He fell. A protective floor mat was in place, which prevented injury.
The failure created a secondary hazard: the rung broke into two jagged pieces that remained fixed to the structure and pointed upward at an angle, forming exposed pointed wooden stakes directly in the fall zone. Had the child landed on the broken ends, this could have caused a puncture or laceration injury.
This was a structural failure of a load-bearing component under normal, intended use by a child within the expected weight range not misuse. I have photographs of the broken rung.
Contact with the company:
I contacted Avenlur. Their response was to offer a single replacement part. This does not address the underlying concern: the reason the original component failed is unknown, and the remaining rungs may share the same defect. A replacement dowel does not restore confidence in the structural integrity of a climber that failed under a small child.
What I want to happen: I am reporting this so there is an official record of a structural failure in a childs climbing product, and so other families can be made aware.

No incident, no one hurt Made Dec 5, 2023, sent to the company Dec 11, 2023, published by CPSC Dec 26, 2023
The product, in the report: Avenlur indoor play set jungle gym aged 2-6
Avenlur play set jungle gyms. All of them as the monkey bars are the same. This product can hang children in a second. The monkey bars are spaced out perfectly for a child entire body and chest to fit through but not their head. If they were to slip on top of the monkey bars they would hang by their head and possibly die. The ladders go up to these monkey bars which basically shows that the children are supposed to get on top of them. This is a horrible hazard and needs to be investigated.

The product, in the report: https://avenlur.com/products/indoor-toddler-child-indoor-gym-playground-climber-real-wooden-playset-6-in-1-slide-rock-climb-wall-rope-wall-climbing-monkey-bars-swing-ladder-fun-gym-for-children-ages-2-6yrs-by-avenlur Avenlur Magnolia, Real Wood Playset. Size Medium, Natural Wood.
We were using the Avenlur Playset gym with monkey bars. Within the first 30 minutes of my 4 year old using the equipment, he climbed to the top of the monkey bars, and tried to climb down to the slide by going down in between the bars. His entire body fit until his head became trapped. His feet were dangling from the ground and there was no way he would have been able to free himself. I was right there so was able to quickly lift him up through the bars, but I could imagine some caretakers unable to do that.
