Made May 21, 2012, sent to the company Jun 11, 2012, published by CPSC Jun 25, 2012

The product, in the report: Air Soft Rifle AK47 Tacticle Metal

Caller’s husband purchased an AK47 Airsoft gun for himself and their ten year old son on May 19th, 2012. Gun shoots plastic pellets.

On May20th, 2012 caller’s husband and 10yr old son had been shooting targets for approximately ten minutes or less when the 10yr old son asked, “What’s that smell” and he laid the gun down as he said it. As he laid the gun down it began smoking and hissing, he ran to his father who decided to leave the gun alone until the hissing and smoking had stopped.

After the gun cooled off the father picked it up, looked inside to view the battery power pack and saw that it had exploded. Parents state that if child had not laid the gun down the acid from the battery pack would have gotten on his face and possibly disfigured him.

Caller returned the gun to the retailer immediately but wanted to file an Incident Report for the protection of other consumers.

She would like the gun removed from retailers selling inventory until the battery pack explosion issue has been corrected and it is deemed safe to use by manufacturer.
