No one hurt Made May 6, 2014, sent to the company May 14, 2014, published by CPSC Jun 5, 2014
The product, in the report: G&G Armament GR16 Carbine Airsoft Pellet Gun
On April 24, 2014 purchased a G&G Armament brand GR16 Carbine (Model no. EGR-16CP-BB) Air Soft BB gun from Gi Tactical at 100-A N Providence Rd North Chesterfield, VA 23235 (804) 320-2535. On April 27 the gun malfunctioned, something inside exploded and produced smoked and a burning smell. We returned the item to the store on May 3, 2014 where their technician observed that a fuse inside the gun had exploded filling the gun with glass shards. The repair technician could find no reason this should have happened (the fuse actually exploding rather than blowing) other than defective merchandise and recommended that we contact the manufacturer or have it repaired in non-factory fashion by “bypassing the fuse”. In such a case if the same thing that happened before occurred again, there would be no fuse to blow and the entire battery pack could explode right next to your head while in use. We contacted the manufacturer on May 6, 2014 and they to suggest the gun be modified in an unsafe fashion to bypass the fuse and refused to replace the defective item. We have an unsafe product being repaired in an unsafe manner adding an exponentially more dangerous situation for the unwitting consumer.
