I set up the croquet set by Wild Sports. The carry bag that it comes with requires all the mallets to be put together EACH time by screwing the wooden mallet head onto the wooden stick. Since the threads are wooden, it is very difficult to tighten all 6 mallets. The 2 kids were playing croquet and one of them hit the ball and the wooden mallet head came flying out into the air about 4 feet high and landed by my other child. Fearing that more mallet heads might come off, I tried to tighten them more. Again, another wooden mallet head came flying off endangering 2 children and myself. I immediately took the mallets away and ended the game.
I contacted the company, Wild Sports, via phone and told the customer service rep what happened. I said the only way to secure the heads is to glue them on but then they wouldn’t fit in the supplied bag. The supplied “carry bag” only fits completely disassembled pieces. She offered another, bigger bag. I agreed, told her I would glue them if there was a bigger bag and emailed her my address per her request. In a return response she then told me that I would have to pay for the bigger bag to hold the pieces.
I told her no, that the game, as it must be completely assembled for every play, is unsafe and the company should try to remedy it. There was no return response.
The “assembly, directions, and rules” paper that came with the croquet set did NOT have any assembly directions, nor does it state that assembly is required. The paper only has rules of play on it.
