The product, in the report: Tankless electric water heater used to heat water for bathing faucet etc

9 Months ago while online through Ebay.com, I purchased a tankless electric water heater (Maxwell brand) made by Klimaire and heatandcool.com which is a subsidiary of Universal enviromental products inc. The heater was USED by my family and me for a total of about 5 months when the unit stopped heating water. I immediately checked in my basement to see it a breaker was tripped, and at that time I smelled something was or still is burning and then checked the breaker which was still operational and was not interrupted. So I checked the tankless water heater and it was still receiving electricity and water however the water was not heated. I pressed the buttons on the unit and it displayed lights but when I asked my wife to turn on the hot water, the unit did not turn on to display the water temperature (which when it was working WOULD display the system’s status) and only flowed thru cold water. I smelled the odor again but this time stronger and so I began to visually inspect the unit as I removed the front cover and saw the heating chamber was severely burned and a 1 to 2 inch hole was melted through the all plastic case. This unit is a serious fire hazard, as our family could have been injured or worst had we not discovered this problem. The company have instructed us to pay them a $50.00 fee for a RMA which would cover the shipping fee to their business in Florida and the shipped of a new all metal unit back to me here in Ohio. I have tried to contact the company, about the issue but they are currently NOT answering or returning my phone calls so now I am out of the defective heater and have NOT received a new one. This company have several complaints including this very same thing happening to other families.
