The product, in the report: Insinkerator Steaming Hot Water Tank with 2/3 Gal capacity
On Sunday, Feb 16, I tried using the hot water maker, but it only provided cold water. The light under the sink was on, so I assumed it had power. After another attempt with no success, I smelled burning wires and saw smoke coming from under the kitchen sink. Opening the doors, I found the instant hot water maker smoking. I unplugged all appliances, ensured the hot water maker was off, and prepared a fire extinguisher. The smoke subsided, and I later removed the hot water maker, discovering a scorched cabinet wall and charred control card, indicating a possible fire at the power cord connection to the circuit board control card. If not for my prompt reaction to quickly investigate the smell and smoke and to remove power to the unit, I believe I would have had a full-blown fire in my kitchen.
