The product, in the report: AO smith manufactured gas valve for hot water heaters. [REDACTED]
I had a state brand water heater (A O Smith) installed in 2020. in 2022 it started leaking natural gas at the valve. the valve was replaced and in Oct 2024 it started leaking gas again in the same spot. had a new one installed a few days later, new one leaked out of the box. A O Smith sent me brand new one, tht one leaked out of the box as well. about a week later I got another one from AO Smith as well as a new thermal coupler. again defective out of the box. this cost $860 in labor costs. after that AO Smith said to have plumber put in a new hot water heater of a different brand and they would pay for it except labor costs. [REDACTED] installed in november 2024 and cost $1500 in labor costs and no gas leak now. i filed comlaint to [REDACTED], employee from AO Smith reached out and after about a month they agreed to refund me $440. during this conversation the employee stated that the engineers messed up on the material for the gas valves and they arent strong enough for the bolts or gas pressure. they know this but have been trying to get their employees to tell consumers is a normal amount of gas, or its a special venting attribute, or they send out new parts and hope the customer gives us. the employee was disgruntled and said its been happening for a couple years now. I have talked to several other people with this issue that just allow the leak because their water heater is in an area away from living spaces. its not safe. There was recently a home explosion in my area and it got my mind on it again, went into [REDACTED] and its so scary how many people are having this problem.
