  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Apr 10, 2026, sent to the company Apr 14, 2026, published by CPSC Apr 28, 2026

The product, in the report: Noritz Condensing Tankless Gas Water Heater, Model #: #EZ98DV GQ-C2861WX-FF US, Manufacturer’s Defective O-Ring in Bleeder Valve.

Residential property damage caused by the manufacturers defective component (orange O-ring on the black bleeder valve) in a Noritz condensing tankless gas water heater that was properly installed per manufacturers specs on 12/15/25 by a CA Licensed Plumber. Property damage include the water heater closet, water heater exterior door, kitchen and bathroom walls that share common walls with the water heater closet, vintage knotty pine wood cabinets and vintage tiles in the kitchen.

The property damage and serious, potential health hazards are caused by the manufacturer defect and Noritz is responsible under California law.

Noritz Condensing Tankless Gas Water Heater, Model #: #EZ98DV GQ-C2861WX-FF US, Defective O-Ring in Bleeder Valve.

On 12/16/25, (the day after installation), I noticed that there was water dripping from the black bleeder valve. Part of the floor of the water heater closet was damp. I contacted plumber and texted him photos of the drip and the wet floor. He said that the black fitting just needs to be tightened by hand. He said he would come by the following day, 12/17/25.

On 2/27/26, I had a new exterior water heater closet door fabricated, primed, painted and installed. There were no leaks inside the water heater closet at that time.

On 3/27/26, we were outside doing yard work in the evening. I noticed that there was a green weed in front of the water heater door and the ground was wet. I opened up the water heater door and discovered that water was running from the black bleeder valve, the entire floor was soaked, 3 walls of the water heater closet were wet and the new door was warped on both sides. I immediately called the plumber and sent a video of the leak. The plumber arrived at the house within 30 minutes of my call.

Upon arrival and inspection, the plumber discovered that a failed orange o-ring on the bleeder valve on the Noritz water heater caused a significant water leak. This manufacturers defect resulted in extensive damage to my water heater closet, new exterior water heater door, kitchen interior and cabinetry and one side of the bathroom shower that share common walls with the water heater.

On 3/30/26, I contacted the plumber to ask if he had contacted Noritz yet. I also inquired about having a Water Remediation company inspect the property to determine if and/or how much water damage is behind the walls. I am very concerned about health issues, especially since one of the primary residents is 97 years old. I stated that I would like Noritz to cover the costs of the water remediation company and any damage that needs to be repaired or replaced due to Noritzs defective product. The plumber said he would contact his water remediation company to inspect the damages.

On 3/31/26, the water remediation owner arrived to inspect the property in the late afternoon. He used his meter to take readings of the walls and cabinets. He stated the walls and cabinets were soaked. My house was built in 1959 and retains many of the original features, including the vintage tiles in the kitchen and bathroom and vintage knotty pine cabinets in the kitchen. These features are unique and irreplaceable, especially the vintage tiles, which I love and is what drew me to purchase the property.

On 4/1/26, I contacted Noritz America Corporation. I was given a Case # and told to text a letter and photos.

On 4/2/26, I composed and submitted a detailed letter, the photo of the defective O-ring and plumbers invoice for the installation via the text phone number that Noritz provided.

I also called to ensure that the text had been received. I spoke with a Noritz customer service rep who requested that I take photos of the water heater, including removing the front panel to reveal the guts (interior components), venting pipes, valves, inlets, drain lines, and bottom of water heater. The Noritz rep provided a link to upload the additional photos he requested. He also said someone from Noritz would reach out to me the following day, 4/3/26, to provide their insurance company information.

On 4/3/26, I uploaded the requested photos of the water heater. I emailed the Noritz rep to ensure that he had received them. He confirmed that he did. He said he did not need any additional information from me at that time.

On 4/6/26, I emailed the Noritz rep for an update. I did not receive a reply since he did not work that day.

On 4/7/26, I sent a follow up email to the Noritz rep. He replied that Noritz had shared my Case and Claim with their insurance company, MSIG USA. He did not have any contact information to provide regarding the Insurance Investigator. He stated that the insurance investigator would contact me after they reviewed the case.

On 4/9/26, I called Noritz Customer Service to follow up and receive an update regarding the insurance investigator. The Noritz rep (a different rep than the one I had been emailing) was uncertain about the case and could not provide any new information.

On 4/9/26, I mailed a Certified Letter to Noritz via USPS requesting they provide the insurance investigator contact information. Time is of the essence. I am very concerned about health issues for the primary residents, especially the resident in their late 90s. We do not want to suffer any serious, health issues (whether temporary or permanent) caused by prolonged exposure to water damage that can not be seen behind the walls, due to Noritzs defective water heater that resulted in damage to the residential property.

I have indicated that the primary residents may suffer health related injuries due to the delay in Noritzs insurance company processing this Claim. As of 4/10/26, I have not been contacted by Noritzs insurance company, MSIG USA, even though MSIG USA received the Case and Claim on approximately 4/3/26.

I would like Nortiz to take full responsibility, without further delays, for their defective product and the resulting property damage and serious, potential health risks to the residents. I respectfully ask that Noritz process this Case and Claim in an efficient and timely manner so as not to further disrupt and impede the health and safety of the primary, senior residents.
