The product, in the report: shark rocket vacuum
On August 25, the customer reported that their vacuum unit powered on by itself without any user interaction. Shortly after turning on, the device produced smoke and visible flames. The vacuum became non-functional as a result of the incident. Following this report, the company provided the customer with a replacement unit. On June 26, the replacement vacuum experienced the same malfunction, turning on independently, followed again by smoke and flames, leading to a second device failure. The customer reports no unusual use or modifications to either unit.
Hazard Description:
Uncommented device activation Electrical overheating Smoke emission Presence of flames Complete device failure
The consumer is requesting that this product be considered for recall, stating that the repeated malfunction poses a serious fire hazard. According to the consumer, two separate units of the same product have exhibited the same dangerous behavior—turning on without activation, producing smoke and flames, and ultimately failing. Given these repeated incidents, the consumer believes that the product represents a risk to public safety and asserts that the issue should be formally addressed by the appropriate authorities.

The product, in the report: Vacuum
My 9 month old baby is seeing a hand specialist and having therapy due to an accident that happened a month ago. Yesterday I received news from my sons Doctor/hand specialist He will forever have some tightening and scar on his left pointer finger due to an incident occurring shark Stratos vacuum. Despite doing therapy on the finger for a couple weeks. I am a mother and a multitasker, and my baby is free too crawl around the house. The front of the vacuum is exposed to a soft roller brush. My son, being curious, went into touch the vacuum and immediately started crying and result of a second-degree burn. We immediately went to urgent care and was advised to keep it clean and was prescribed an ointment. A few days later, the wound did not look good so i took him to his Pediatrician who referred him to A: plastic surgeon hand specialist. The specialist recommended therapy. He did complete four sessions. We went back to the hand specialist yesterday and that is when he advised since his scar is still healing after two weeks, he will permanently be scarred. This vacuum should have a warning label or sticker on the front of the physical vacuum. The bristles on this vacuum are deceiving. They are very soft. I am aware I should have moved away faster or avoided somehow but as a new mother, this is highly impossible.

The product, in the report: Shark robot vacuum
On the morning of December 13th, 2025 I bent down and pressed the dock button on my Shark robot vacuum with my right middle finger and felt a pop. I went to urgent care and was told it was mallet finger and was referred to a hand specialist. My tendon was completely severed from the bone. On January 12th, 2026 I had surgery to have an anchor and pin inserted into my finger. I was told it was discovered during surgery that the tendon was “shredded.” On January 29th, 2026 I had stitches removed. On February 19th, 2026 I’m supposed to have the pin removed. I will then need physical therapy. My finger is permanently damaged. I will never have full range of motion and will have lifelong arthritis. All I did was push the dock button to stop the vacuum. I was using it as intended.

Subject: Formal Complaint Against SharkNinja Defective Vacuum and Unsafe Warranty Practices
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally file a complaint against SharkNinja Operating LLC (Shark Vacuum) regarding a vacuum cleaner I purchased in August [2025]. Since the time of purchase, this vacuum has experienced ongoing mechanical and operational issues, and it has now become a serious safety and fire hazard.
Most recently, when the vacuum is turned on, the motor will momentarily engage and then abruptly shut down, while the units lights remain on. Additionally, the electrical plug becomes extremely hot during use, which raises significant concern about electrical failure and fire risk.
Because of these safety concerns, I contacted Sharks customer service to request warranty support and to report what I believe to be a dangerous defect. I specifically explained that this vacuum may pose a fire hazard and requested that the company take the unit back for inspection so the defect could be properly evaluated and addressed.
Instead of offering a safe and responsible resolution, Shark representatives instructed me to cut the power cord off the vacuum and throw the unit in the garbage in order to receive a replacement. I was told that Shark would not honor my warranty unless I destroyed the product, and they refused to accept the defective unit for evaluation.
This response is deeply concerning for several reasons: 1. It prevents the manufacturer from examining a potentially dangerous defect that could pose a fire risk to consumers. 2. It forces customers to destroy evidence of a defective and hazardous product in order to access their warranty. 3. It raises serious questions about consumer safety, transparency, and corporate responsibility. 4. It effectively denies me full access to my warranty rights, unless I comply with an unreasonable and unsafe demand.
I believe Sharks handling of this matter is negligent and potentially fraudulent, as it appears designed to avoid accountability for a product that may cause property damage or bodily harm. A vacuum that overheats at the plug and shuts down unexpectedly should not be dismissed or disposed of without proper investigation.
I am requesting the assistance in addressing this matter and ensuring that SharkNinja: Properly acknowledges and investigates this safety issue Honors its warranty without requiring destruction of the product Takes responsibility for identifying and correcting potentially hazardous defects
I am deeply concerned not only for myself, but for other consumers who may unknowingly be using the same defective model.
Thank you for your time and attention to this serious matter. I am prepared to provide documentation, call logs, and any additional information needed.

I turned on our vacuum, heard a loud noise coming from the motor, almost as if there were rocks in there, it was also smoking. I then detached the dust bin and removed the filter cover from the motor to see if there was anything in there, but everything looked fine. I proceeded to turn it on without putting the filter back on and that when I noticed sparks coming from the motor. I examined the motor filter only to see that it was burned from the side that faced the motor.

The product, in the report: Shark Navigator Anti-Allergen Plus Upright Vacuum - NV141
Vacuum tipping hazard: I have a newer Shark Navigator upright vacuum with a hose adaptable cleaning wand. I was crouched at floor level using the hose brush to dust the floor heaters, and the vacuum tipped backwards and basically punched me in the jaw with a substantial amount of weight and force. It is a tall, heavy machine comparative to the narrow platform base, with a rounded protruding handle. The detachable brush hose is fairly short with a low level point of entry, and makes it too easy to topple.
It got me (a shorter adult) on the broad corner part of the jaw, but I feel like this tipping hazard flaw could have taken out my teeth. I was honestly stunned like I’d gotten punched and almost went in for an x-ray. This device is too top heavy and could really injure small child.

The product, in the report: Shark vacuum
I bought the Shark Navigator Lift-Away vacuum a few years ago and it has continuously fallen over and hit me in the head very hard. It happened again today and I thought I nearly had a concussion. I’m tired of it. This thing is dangerous and could kill and elderly person or baby!! It’s built weird in that it’s very top heavy for some odd reason. I just wanted to report it to someone so they can make this comment stop producing them. I see they’re still being sold and many people on [REDACTD] have the same complaints that it tips over and knock them in the head! I’m going to get rid of this one and get a new one so I don’t die trying to clean my house.

The product, in the report: Shark vacuum filter set.
I started ordering filters from Shark in February of this year. So far I have received 7 filter kits. All of the filters have yellow stains on them. When I try to open the bags my skin gets irritated so I have to put the filters back in the bag. I have all 7 filter kits and I want to know what the stain is. I think it is some kind of toxin. All the filters have labels saying made in china. I have contacted the company by phone and email and they don’t seem to know any more than I do.

The product, in the report: upright vacuum
(09/30/2018) The submitter stated that his son was using the product for the first time to vacuum the carpet in his home. In under a minute, the son got an electrical shock. There was a shooting pain up his right arm. Also, the lights in the home flickered.
The son was taken to the emergency room at the Pottstown Hospital in Pottstown, PA. He was treated and released.
(10/01/2018) The submitted contacted the manufacturer to advise them of the incident. He was advised that the cause was static electricity because there is no metal in the handle.
When the submitter asked the manufacturer about paying for his son’s medical bill, he was advised that he would have to send the product back to them first.

The product, in the report: Shark Rotator Vacuum Model NV501
I Bought a Shart Rotator vacuum in March 2017, model NV501. Yesterday I was vacuuming as normal and I received a shock while gripping the plastic handle that holds a metal hose. I immediately let go of the handle. I then started to doubt myself and grabbed the handle again and was shocked. Again, I just couldn’t believe I was being shocked and grabbed the handle and was shocked again. I googled shark vacuum shocks and seen some recalls concerning that. I called shark this morning and they told me they are sending me a new hose...something could have broken inside. They also claim it could have been a static shock from the carpet even though it’s not winter or the type of socks I had on. I didn’t have on socks and I don’t have wall to wall carpet in my house. I was on the hardwood floor.which is a very light sensation. They said they are going to send me a new handle/hose. I am not happy about this. I don’t want to use this vacuum. I am 60 years old and have vacuumed all my life and NEVER been shocked.

I Am sure that I was electrocuted , by Shark model nv601, there is definitely a defect , this vacuum also caused electrical issues in my apartment, and caused damage as well. I was living in an electro magnetic field that I was able to see and feel. 4 trips to the emergency room , a 6 day inpatient in a mental ward and lasting neurological effects that I feel constantly.
This vacuum is dangerous, too much power, even after it is unplugged. I saw physical electrical arcs, and burns to the walls. I was terrified of my own apartment. I had no issues before the purchase of this vacuum.
I saw electrical arcs I felt like I was getting constantly electrocuted. Extreme muscle weakness Restlessness Anxiety Fight or Flight response Damaged wardrobe Damaged appliances Damaged everything, This vacuum created a hostile environment for me and I felt like I was in imminent danger I almost committed suicide,
I had no other option but to flee
I have pictures of the damages to my personal property, the rental unit, and the electrical burns to my feet

I purchased TWO new Shark Navigator Lift Away Model #NV351 31. I bought one for my elderly mother and one for myself. With as much information as I was able to find that goes as far back as 2015, I’m seriously questioning why I was able to purchase these units only 6 weeks ago?!?! My trust in Shark is shaken...

The product, in the report: Shark vacuum NV352
I recently purchased a Shark navigator Model NV352 vacuum for my house. The vacuum works great as a vacuum but when vacuuming it gives a regular (every 5 seconds) gives me an electrical shock that is either a short or is as a result of a great amount of static buildup. I can actually see the electrical arc jumping to my fingertip. I did call the Shark support line and the tech suggested that this was a minor issue and that I needed to rub a static dryer sheet all over it. This did not work nor was there a basic understanding that electrical buildup needs to seek a grounding. This is dangerous.

And one time it shocked me so bad that I had a slight pain shoot up and down my arm that lasted for about half an hour. I’very since stopped using it. Shark Vacuum NV354Q Series is excessively shocking me. Shocks are occurring at handle between handle and suction tube. Shocks are occurring frequently, and can be heard popping while using vacuum. I received this product today by mail after ordering from QVC and experienced this issue within 30 minutes of using a brand new product. I contacted the manufacturer, shark, directly and spoke to a representative, I was told this is a known issue but there is nothing they can do because no wires are ran through the suction tube. I was advised by this representative that I am only experiencing static electricity at shocks therefore the issue is not due to an issue of the product, furthermore I was advised to not wear cotton or polyester while using this product ( this word of advice is not located anywhere in the owners guide or manual of this product). After researching this product apparently it is a common issue with most Shark vacuums. I am now experiencing tingling and soreness in my wrist, fingers and arm. I am sending thing product back today. I’d like to reiterate that I DID contact Shark and I was told there is nothing they can do.

The product, in the report: Vacuum Cleaner Shark Navigator Lift Away- Pro
November 6th 2016 bought a Shark Lift Away Pro. After less than a month, both my husband and myself were getting shocked when using the vacuum. It got worse so we called the number Shark gives us. 800-798-7398. A customer service representative told us to wash our hands and use cream. I explained I was over 50 years old and had numerous vacuums cleaners and have never had an issue being shocked. She then informed us to not wear wool and use rubber gloves when vacuuming. Wipe the unit down with a dryer sheet and make sure you moisturize. ( I was wearing shoes with rubber on the bottom when vacuuming) At this point I got my husband on the phone who deals with electrical for a living. He tried explaining to her this was not an issue of cream or rubber gloves, but something electrical in the vacuum. We paid almost $200.00 for this vacuum and asked for a return or replacement. She stated she could give us another handle?? This is an unacceptable solution. The service representative stated there were no issues at all similar to this with the vacuum, so basically she could not help us. We have requested a supervisor call us and were told we would receive a call withing the next 48 hours. After hanging up the phone and researching, we found numerous complaints with the Shark Vacuum shocking many people. The most recent one was from 2 days ago. If i purchase a product and the company refuses to acknowledge it is a danger, someone needs to look into this matter, before someone else gets hurt while using it.

The product, in the report: Shark Navigator Lift-Away Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner. Purple.
On 6/6 2016 I ordered a brand new shark navigator lift away vacuum, model NV352, from Home Depot. June 14, 2016 was the first time I used it. After going over the rug a few times I started getting electrical shocks! They are coming from the top part of the handle where it curves. Not the part you hold on to, but the curved part of the handle that is underneath the part you hold on to. I didn’t have to actually even touch it, but it was arcing from there to my hand. This is not just small static shocks, but very strong electrical shocks, my hand and arm were tingling for about an hour after I stopped vacuuming. One was so strong that I actually let go of the vacuum handle and almost fell backwards. This is extremely dangerous. After this happened I checked on-line and found out that Shark has had other vacuums that have been recalled for a shock hazard. I contacted Shark and this was their reply to me:
Dear [REDACTED],
Thank you for your email.
I am sorry to hear that. It is a normal occurrence and can be prevented by keeping hands moisturized, not wearing wool/polyester clothing while vacuuming. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
If we can be of further assistance please feel free to contact us at 1-800-798-7398, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 10:00 pm EST, as well as Saturday & Sunday from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm EST.
With regards, Customer Service Team SharkNinja Operating LLC
NORMAL OCCURANCE?!! Are they crazy??!! I have been vacuuming 40+ years and this is NOT normal. I can’t emphasize enough how strong these shocks were!! Plus, I moisturize my hands and I was wearing cotton. I never wear wool or poly. To suggest this will fix this problem is insane. I’m hoping you can get a recall on this before some gets seriously injured. I will be returning it to Home Depot with a warning not to re-sell it!

The product, in the report: White shark Professional Navigator Liftaway vacuum with clear bagless container. Worked great until it started electrocuting people.
So far, our vacuum had been working great in our home and had great suction and no problems until today. Today, my husband was vacuuming the kids room and he said the handle started arcing. He turned the vacuum off and checked it to see if there was damage or something going on with the outlet. There wasn’t any visible damage and he switched the outlet and turned it on again. This time it had obvious arcing and it shocked him after which he immediately turned it off and called me to tell me about it. It really concerned me because we have young kids that help us with vacuuming and the possibility of them being electrocuted is scary. I looked up the recall models on the shark website, and this model wasn’t listed, even though it was obviously showing the same issues that the recalled models were showing in the descriptions.

The product, in the report: Vacuum Cleaner
12/24/2014 (Approximate) - The consumer indicates as soon as she received her product and use it, she received electrical shock on her hands and fingers that escalated up to her arm. Although it did not feel like a static shock, she asked her husband to try it and it did not shock him.
03/15/2015 (Approximate) - The consumer used the product once again and the same thing occurred; she kept being shocked by it. The consumer contacted the manufacturer and explained the situation. She was informed that the problem may be in the handle and so they would send her a replacement.
The consumer indicates that when she received the replacement handle and installed it on the vacuum, she continued to get shocked.
12/22/2015 - The consumer contacted the manufacturer and told them that the problem persisted. They advised the consumer to use hand lotion when she uses the product, as well as wear rubber shoes.
The consumer indicates that there is not a lot of carpeting in her home and the rooms were there is carpeting are not used often so she states that she uses her vacuum approximately four or five times a year, which is why she only contacted the manufacturer about the product a couple of months after the initial use.

While using the vacuum I noticed that the handle kept slipping, turning and eventually the top part pulled out of the aluminum wand completely. Upon examination, I realized that there were some broken copper wires inside of the wand and residue caused by heat and or scorching. Afterwards the vacuum was unusable due to the handle kept separating from the wand and not realizing why the inside appeared to be burnt, I felt that it was unsafe.

The product, in the report: Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away, model NV501 - purchased from Kohls.com in March 2015
Purchased Shark Rotator from Kohl’s Online. After putting it together, and using it, I noticed that I was getting a low voltage shock from the handle.
I looked online and found that there was a recall for some models of this vacuum due to electrical shock. Unfortunately my model number was not included in the recall (NV501). When I called the recall number for Shark, I was told that the repeated shock that I was receiving was due to static electricity and that I should not wear cotton when I vacuum and make sure to hold the vacuum handle in a different way.

The product, in the report: Shark Vacuum Cleaner Hand-Lift, Model UV56031
I bought a Shark Hand-lift vacuum cleaner by Euro-Pro at the end of March. The model number is UV56031. I heard about the recall of the NV560 models. My vacuum is white and not purple. However, it is also giving a very strong electrical shock when used. We have dogs and carpets and so a static charge is expected. However, we have been vacuuming for many years and never had a shock like this vacuum gives every time it is used. If my wife can vacuum the house in 5-8 minutes she can avoid the build up of the static charge. But this vacuum gives of a much stronger shock than we’ve experienced every before.

I have been receiving electrical shocks from a Shark vacuum cleaner model that is NOT involved in the current recall. My vacuum is model NV480. When I vacuum the carpet, I receive a shock if either the electrical cord or the back of the vacuum comes into contact with my legs. 04/20/2015 - The consumer was vacuuming her home and she received electrical shocks twice. The consumer immediately stopped vacuuming.
04/21/2015 - The consumer asked her husband to check the unit for her because of what had happened. The consumer indicates that her husband checked the unit and found nothing physically wrong with it.
04/23/2015 - The consumer learned of Release No. 15-120 and contacted the manufacturer to find out if her unit was included in the recall. The Customer Representative she spoke to informed her that her unit is not recalled. Baffled, the consumer informed the manufacturer’s representative that she is experiencing electrical shocks when she uses the unit and believes the recall should be expanded to include her model. The representative informed her that she needs to make sure she is using shoes that have rubber soles when vacuuming, as well as make sure her hands are moisturized.
The consumer indicates that she owns another vacuum that she prefers to use and so she uses this specific vacuum on average two to three times a month.
Prior to the one mentioned above, the consumer had never experienced any other incidents. The consumer believes this product poses a safety hazard to consumers. The consumer has no further injuries to report.

The product, in the report: Cordless Stik Vac, lightweight portable vacuum-converts to a hand vacuum
My wife uses a Shark stick vac on hardwood and tile floors since purchase in March 2011. The unit is portable and operates off 10.5 volts DC. It must be plugged in to a charger when not in use. Recently she began to notice the smell of burning rubber while vacuuming. After a few days the unit began to smoke and she observed smoke coming from the battery compartment. The battery is not designed to be removed daily but can be removed and consist of a stack of nicad batteries inclosed in a plastic shrink wrap. When taken apart several burned holes were noticed on the plastic shrink wrap. When the shrink wrap was opened it was noted that the positive cable had shorted against a battery ground burning the insulation on the positive wire and cooking the paper covering between the battery ground and the positive wire. Manufacture Euro Shark was contacted and agreed to provide a replacement battery.
