Sears Kenmore Vacuum Cleaner Lower Extension Wand, Part #KC99PEEJZV06, Power Ribbon was pinched/crimped during lower wand extension and retraction. Power ribbon bare wire exposed and shorted against aluminum tube. Only luck prevented my wife from receiving an electrical shock.

The product, in the report: Canister Vacuum Cleaner for home use
With switch in ‘Off’ position, motor operates/energizes intermittently. Machine can seem to be off, but hours later, motor will be pulsing intermittently. Came home to this once & machine was very hot, burning motor smell pervaded house. That time, switch was only 80% of the way to ‘Off’. Happened again, though with the switch firmly & fully in the ‘Off’ position. Risk of overheating the switch or motor or wiring, risk of fire. No harm in this case. Henceforth, I will always unplug it immediately after using it & this will make it safe.

The product, in the report: Carpet attachment for Kenmore canister vacuum (part number C50XDDY0B047)
I have a Kenmore canister vacuum with carpet attachment C50XDDY0B047. I have recently noticed that the short cord which brings power from the wand to the carpet attachment has frayed. The cord bends over a sharp corner of the attachment, and also moves across this bend when the attachment is angled for cleaning. The fraying has caused a short, and I will replace it, but I think this should be reported. Photos are enclosed

No one hurt Made Nov 9, 2011, sent to the company Nov 18, 2011, published by CPSC Dec 5, 2011
The product, in the report: Blue canister vacuum with motorized powerhead
Vacuum was shorting out while operating the power head. Upon inspection, the cord insulation was torn and the wire was frayed. I discontinued using the vacuum to prevent a potential fire or electrical shock. The cord insulation is torn at the point where the handle pivots up and down. There is no sharp edges on the powerhead housing, but it appears to have split from normal wear and tear.
