The product, in the report: Kirby Sentra 2 vacuum cleaner.
I purchased a Kirby vacuum from a salesman on the evening of January 11, 2014. I vacuumed my house the next day and the metal head floor attachment got so hot that it burnt my daughters leg when she sat by it after 10 minuets of the device being turned off and unplugged

No one hurt Made May 17, 2013, sent to the company May 28, 2013, published by CPSC Jun 11, 2013
The product, in the report: Kirby Model G4 vacuum cleaner
I was vacuuming with my Kirby G4 vacuum when the power fluctuated a second later a heard sparks and the vacuum power cord caught on fire. I turned the vacuum off, blew out the fire and ran to unplug it. I came back to look for fires, and luckily non were discovered. I looked at the cord and damage to the unit. Where the cord was manufactured to hook onto the handle of the vacuum in a plastic swivel connection, the cord was burned in half with back powder coming out.
I called Kirby and they offered no concern about the fire hazard in their power cords. I was told that I could replace the cord for $31 from them or take it to the local distributor 30miles away. I said that I was told that I have a lifetime warranty. I was told that they offer lifetime rebuilding warranties. They checked my record via SN, then said it would cost over $260 to rebuild it not including shipping to the southern states.
I’m outraged, not just because of the inherent risk of the manufacturing of their vacuum cord, but for obvious disregard to safety with their G4 power cord specifically modified for hooking into a swivel that over the years causes the power cord to break or fray, spark and catch on fire. Even if I purchased a replacement cord, it would only take so long for the same thing to happen again.
Kirby needs to recall this power cord on all units sold and replace it with a proven safe power cord for free to its consumers.

The product, in the report: G4 vacuum cleaner
I plugged in the vacuum and was vacuuming with my Kirby G4 as usual when I noticed the power was wavering. I went to the outlet and grabbed the plug. The moment I came into contact with/pulled the plug, sparks flew and I was severely burned. I immediately ran into the kitchen and ran cold water over the burn. My husband explained that the cord leading to the plug only had two wires and that they had crossed. The burn injury is confined to a one inch area at the base of my index and middle fingers. If this happened to me, I figure it has all ready or will happen to someone else. To protect fellow consumers, I am filing this complaint.
