My Electrolux stick vac started to smell really bad like it was burning. I unplugged it and realized the handheld plastic part was bubbling and melting. The handle had even burst open in the back. It was not a serial number included in the recall but it should be!!

No one hurt Made May 22, 2012, sent to the company May 30, 2012, published by CPSC Jun 13, 2012
The product, in the report: Cordless stick/hand held vacuum
Last week, while cleaning, the hand held portion of my Ergorapido turned itself on. When it would not shut off, I set it on the counter to let the battery run itself out. A short time later I smelled burning plastic. It had burned a spot through the paper towel it was set on and burned a small spot in my butcher block counter top. I tossed it in the sink and ran water over it. It stopped running so I turned the water off. In about 30 seconds, the water on the machine started to sizzle. Then it came back on and the battery element on the back of it turned red and started to burn again. I soaked it in water for about 5 minutes. It stopped. Once I turned the water off it started up again. It finally put it outside, in the middle of the driveway where it eventually burned itself out. I wrote to Elerctrolux asking them about this but, other then acknowledging my e-mail, I have not had a reply.

Hurt, no treatment Made May 28, 2011, published by CPSC Jun 21, 2011
The product, in the report: Electolux O2 canister vacuum cleaner
I have an Electrolux O2 canister vacuum, Model EL6988, Type A, S# 41300595. The electrial connection on the hose assembly has burned and melted during use, burning my hand. I was not injured enough for medical treatment. A few years ago the same thing happened on the vacuum further down the hose assembly where the hose connects and disconnects for different uses. I called electrolux at that time and purchased replacement parts. This vacuum is approximately 7 years old, I think. I bought it new from Lowe’s. It appears that the wiring in this vacuum is faulting and could cause a fire, especially since it got hot enoughj to melt the plastic where it connects and leave burn marks on detaching portion of the hose. I can take a picture to send in if you like.
