The product, in the report: Model # UD78710 Dirt Devil Power Rewind Pet vacuum
I was using a new Dirt Devil Power Max Rewind Pet vacuum. Model # UD78710. It repeatedly shocked me through the handle and the shocks were quite intense. My wife has a medical implant and could have been injured if she used it. I contacted Dirt Devil and they said it was static buildup. And they told me to buy stuff to prevent it. It may be the case but I have never had this happen with a vacuum.

The product, in the report: Dirt Devil Scorpion Quick Flip
I was using the vacuum equipped with the Turbo Tool for some light cleaning around the house. I plugged it, turned it on, and the Turbo Tool spooled up. Suddenly there was a surprisingly loud ‘bang’. I heard something ricochet off a surface in the room (a fragment I still haven’t found). On closer in inspection of the Turbo Tool I discovered that it was full of plastic chunks, about 8 or so, the remnants of plastic part.

The product, in the report: Dirt Devil Scorpion Quick Flip The model number is 08225 and the MFG code is B05A
This happened at the end of august of 2019. My grand children made a mess on the sofa. I Took out my dirt devil to clean it up.
Good thing that I sent the children outside because when I started the dirt devil, the turbo tool broke open and the parts of the turbo fan flew out. No one was hurt because the children were outside. If they were still in the living room, they could have received some of the broken parts in the face or in the eyes. So, I think that this tuyrbo tool is dangerous.

The product, in the report: Dirt Devil vacuum. Red and black in color. Powermax/XL, Spin4Pro
In January 2019, while vacuuming, my vacuum began shooting out sparks, then flames from the area on the vacuum where the cord connects to the machine. I sparked like a sparkler does (shooting sparks) on two occassions in rapid succession, then two small burst of flames shot out from the area where the cord connects to the machine (at the base of the vacuum). I immediately unplugged the vacuum, so not to cause a fire in my home. My vacuum was purchased on September 6, 2017, at WalMart,[REDACTED]. The make of the vacuum is Dirt Devil, and the Model Number is: UD70183. The MFG Code is: E17A AJ. I notified Dirt Devil of this event and the matter has not been resolved to date. I have the vacuum in my possession, along with the original box it came in, as well as the purchase receipt. This model of vacuum is indeed a hazard for the consumer and one should be concerned for their safety if this electrical situation is not resolved.

No one hurt Made Aug 25, 2017, sent to the company Sep 6, 2017, published by CPSC Sep 21, 2017
The product, in the report: Dirt Devil bagless upright vacuum ModelUD70212 MFG Code K16AEU
I purchased an upright vacuum cleaner online from Dirtdevil.com on 4/22/17. It was brand new, not reconditioned. I had it for 4 months, and soon after using it , it seemed like it was getting harder to push. And then one of the wheels kept falling off. To make matters worse, I was vacuuming up slivers of my vacuuming. It was falling apart as I was using it. So far, this is not your concern, until now. I was really curious as to what was going on with my brand new vac, so I investigated further. On my model, the motor housing sits very low to the ground, almost touching the ground. The main wheel assembly is located too close to the motor housing. If you run the motor for about 45 minutes, the housing gets so hot you can hardly touch it. Bad enough that the motor is already almost touching the ground, but now the heat of the motor softened the plastic assembly that holds the main wheels. Because the plastic has been softened due to the heat, the wheels tilt inwards like a car when it has Toe In. The Toe In puts excessive wear on the contact surfaces between the wheels and the main body. On one side, it looks brand new. On the other side, it is almost worn away. This is a very dangerious situation for several reasons: -the motor gets extremely hot. Is there no thermal cut-off -the motor sits too close to the groung. Being so hot, this is very unsafe. -after a few uses, the wheels develop Toe In, and now the motor actually scrapes the carpet. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE Not to mention that the vacuum is tottaly useless with the motor scraping the ground and the eheel falling off. All this from a 4 month old vacuum. I contacted Dirt Devil and described the problem in great detail. It fell on deaf ears. They told me to take it to an autherized repair shop, which I did. All Brands vacuum in Lyndhurst Ohio. They will not honor the warranty, they said it was just cosmetic, I believe. Cosmetic? With a wheel falling off, and a very hot motor dragging on the ground? I don’t think so. I was just going to toss it in the dumpster, and chock it up to poor business practices. But I don’t want to see somebody get hurt, or a fire start because of this. I asked Dirt Devil if I was the only one complaining about this. She skirted the issue. Its time for a recall. They have a fee models where the motor is like mine. I bet they all have the same problem.

The product, in the report: Dirt devil hand held express 6 vacuum. I can get more details once it is completely cooled off outside.
My house almost burnt down because the battery on my hand held dirt devil vacuum express 6 caught fire while it was charging. I emptied it before plugging it in and placed it down. About two hours later i sat down and smelled burning. I saw it smoking and ran to bring it outside . I threw it in a puddle because it’s raining outside. This was at 5pm when I go t home from work, I saw it burning by 7pm tonight. I usually charge it while I’m at work or over night. Thank god I didn’t today. I have a baby! There’s a baby in the upstairs apartment. We could have all been killed!!!!! My husband is an electrician. He said its the battery that was faulty. The charger itself was very hot when I unplugged it but it was not the source. Please have this recalled immediately. I bought it at Macy’s about a year and a half ago. Tomorrow I’ll go outside and see if the serial numbers are still legible.

Hurt, care not known Made Sep 18, 2015, sent to the company Sep 28, 2015, published by CPSC Oct 13, 2015
The product, in the report: Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner (model: 088400)
I’m writing this letter to let you know that I’m concerned about the safety of the product that I purchased. I bought Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner (model: 088400) and I got electrocuted by the power code. Throughout the years, the power cord got stripped and we put electrical tape over the area that the metal inside was exposed. Cord itself is so flaky that you bend the cord a little bit and it gets easily stripped that we had to kept wrap the electrical tape to fix the issue. The issue started within one year form the date I purchased it. I recently contacted Dirt Devil and explained what happened and they told me that since this vacuum was made in 2005 and it’s not within the warranty period, they told me to bring the vacuum to the repair shop to see if that issue was cause by the manufacture. But the catch is that if it’s not, the cost for the repair shop to even look at it cost $25 and it’s on us. If it’s cause by manufacture, they would pay for the parts and repair. Dirt Devil told me that they offer 30% off of the new purchase if we decided to buy a new vacuum from them. Considering all the possible cost of fixing the existing vacuum, I decided to purchase a new one. Now I have a new vacuum cleaner and everything is fine, but it doesn’t erase the fact that I electrocuted by my previous vacuum cleaner, and that vacuum cleaner is not safe. If I had not quickly put my hand away from the cord, I could have been seriously injured. I should not take this type of thing lightly, so should Dirt Devil. I’m reporting this incident mainly because I don’t want the same thing happen to other people. I just think that particular cord wasn’t safe and Dirt Devil should do something about it. And to be nice, they should pay for repair shop to just take a look to see if it’s caused by faulty cord.

The product, in the report: Dirt Devil - SD21000 VAC+DUST corded stick handheld vacuum
We have a Dirt Devil SD21000 Vac+Dust corded stick for several months. We noticed that there are sparks emanating from the ventilation slits inside the unit every time we use it, after a few minutes, we can sense a burning smell from the unit, it does not smoke, but we’re afraid it may eventually become a potential fire hazard. We called dirt devil customer service for advise. They said that sparks should not be occurring. We bought another one of the same model from Walmart. We plugged it in and noticed that there are also sparks coming out from the ventilation slits.

The product, in the report: Dirt Devil upright
I wrote an entire page and could not “send”. I was electrocuted by a dirt devil vacuum. The I was using the “hose” attachment when the vacuum rolled over it’s own cord (I did not move it) I felt a shock in my arm, tingling pins and needles. The roller piece sucked the electrical cord, sparked, flamed then a loud “pop” and exploded. The frayed cord split in two. My small children were home when I yelled for help. This vacuum is extremely dangerous, and my entire right arm is still tingling off and on. I have photographs. Very frightening and potentially deadly. This product really needs to be recalled to prevent another consumer from getting hurt or God forbid, killed by it. Please help.

The product, in the report: DirtDevil Breeze12 Amp Lightweight Bagless Upright
This has happened twice. DirtDevil 12 amp bagless vacume has caught on fire right at the one year warannty. The first time it happened through the cord and burned the carpet. I brought the vacume back to fred meyer and they gave me a new one. Fred Meyers told me that they could not do this anymore and I should of went directly through dirtdevil. I emailed dirtdevil after the event. A week ago, once more, the same model caught on fire at the one year marker of owning it. This time it caught on fire at the outlet. We have plugged in other things to the outlet and they are just fine. We have plugged the vacume into a different plug in and once again it started a fire. This product is not safe! I contacted dirtdevil and they say they will get me a replacement. I would be stupid to vacume with their product after all the fires! This is going to end up hurting someone. I have pictures if needed.
