The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Apr 2, 2026, sent to the company Apr 7, 2026, published by CPSC Apr 21, 2026

The product, in the report: Non child proof container of TerraMed Hemorrhoid and Fissure Ointment. White and blue cardboard box containing two squeeze tubes (0.85 oz, 25mL each) and 6 applicators. Standard flip cap, not child-resistant. Active ingredients: 5% Lidocaine, 0.25% Phenylephrine HCl, 14.4% Glycerin, 15% Petrolatum.

I am reporting a lidocaine-containing hemorrhoid ointment currently sold on Amazon.com in packaging that is not child-resistant, in direct violation of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA), 16 CFR 1700.14(a)(23). Product: TerraMed Hemorrhoid and Fissure Ointment Active Ingredients: 5% Lidocaine, 0.25% Phenylephrine HCl, 14.4% Glycerin, 15% Petrolatum Package size: 0.85 oz (25mL) x 2 tubes plus 6 applicators Sold on: Amazon.com The product contains 5% Lidocaine, a substance subject to mandatory child-resistant packaging requirements under PPPA 16 CFR 1700.14(a)(23). However, the product is packaged in a standard squeeze tube with a non-child-resistant flip cap, which does not meet the child-resistant packaging standard under 16 CFR 1700.15. This violation is directly analogous to CPSC Recall No. [REDACTED] for the identical violation - a lidocaine-containing topical product sold in non-child-resistant packaging. The TerraMed product presents the same hazard: if the contents are accessed and ingested or absorbed by a young child, serious injury or death from lidocaine poisoning may result. Lidocaine is a cardiac and central nervous system toxin at sufficient doses. No personal injury has occurred to my knowledge, but the product is actively available for purchase on Amazon.com and poses an ongoing risk to households with young children.
