The product, in the report: I am writing to report a serious child-safety violation involving two 5% Minoxidil hair-regrowth products currently sold on Amazon. As a parent and recent purchaser, I discovered that neither product is packaged in child-resistant (CR) closures, despite Minoxidil being a regulated drug that requires special controls under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA) when sold for consumer use. Product Details ASIN: B0DD78GP8P ASIN: B0DD6ZXYF5 Both are liquid 5% Minoxidil topical solutions in standard screw-cap bottles with no child-resistant mechanism.
Urgent CPSC Complaint Two 5% Minoxidil Topical Solutions Sold on Amazon Without Child-Resistant Packaging (ASINs B0DD78GP8P and B0DD6ZXYF5) Dear CPSC SaferProducts.gov Team, I am writing to report a serious child-safety violation involving two 5% Minoxidil hair-regrowth products currently sold on Amazon. As a parent and recent purchaser, I discovered that neither product is packaged in child-resistant (CR) closures, despite Minoxidil being a regulated drug that requires special controls under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA) when sold for consumer use. Product Details
ASIN: B0DD78GP8P ASIN: B0DD6ZXYF5 Both are liquid 5% Minoxidil topical solutions in standard screw-cap bottles with no child-resistant mechanism.
Incident While using the product at home, my young children accessed the open bottles, spilled the liquid on the floor and their hands, and may have ingested some. Minoxidil is toxic if swallowedespecially by childrenand can cause serious cardiovascular effects. I immediately rinsed their skin and monitored them, but the incident was entirely preventable. Regulatory Concern Under 16 C.F.R. 1700.14(a)(10), oral prescription drugs (including topical Minoxidil when dispensed or sold to consumers) must be in child-resistant packaging. These Amazon listings bypass that requirement entirely, creating an unacceptable risk to thousands of households. Requested Actions
Open an immediate investigation into both ASINs. Issue a public safety notice and require the seller/manufacturer to:
Recall all non-CR units in commerce. Repackage future stock in PPPA-compliant, child-resistant closures.
Remove the non-compliant listings from Amazon until corrected. Consider civil penalties to deter similar violations.
