First aid Made Apr 4, 2026, sent to the company Apr 8, 2026, published by CPSC Apr 22, 2026
The product, in the report: Glass food storage container set (Snapware Pyrex 18-piece set), includes glass containers with plastic snap-on lids. Purchased from Costco.
During normal household use, the inner rim of the glass food storage container began chipping, producing small, sharp glass fragments. These fragments entered food stored inside the container and were not immediately visible. The chipping appears to occur at the inner sealing edge where the lid attaches. Multiple instances of similar chipping have been observed, suggesting a potential product defect rather than isolated damage.

The product, in the report: Snapware Pyrex 18-piece Glass Food Storage Set. The sizes are various an the shapes are round, square, and rectangle. The containers are made of glass with pyrex embossed on the bottom. They have a little rim on the tops. The lid is plastic with a rubber gasket for sealing on the rim. They have four plastic snaps that fit over the rims to hold the lid on and seal the items contained on the inside of the container.
We purchased a Snapware Pyrex Glass Food Storage Set a few years ago. After a couple of years, we noticed the glass containers were being chipped by the snap on the lid. We exchanged them for another set thinking that this had to be a fluke. A year or so later, we noticed the same problem and began setting aside the damaged containers to take back. This morning, the light reflected off of something in the food we were dishing up from one of the snapware containers. I reached in to remove the debris and discovered it was a shard of glass! We searched through the food for more and found others. One was over an inch long! The container has a huge chip broken off the outside of the rim where the lid snaps on.
