  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Feb 13, 2013, sent to the company Feb 22, 2013, published by CPSC Mar 18, 2013

The product, in the report: a valentine card sold only by target stores that has as a part of the valentine a capsule in pill form that is put into warm or hot water to grow into a sponge shaped toy.

Wanted to bring to your attention as a Registered Nurse whom works in an elementary school that a valentine card was sent into school to be distributed to a Kindergarten class that had a sponge growing pill capsule that was attached as part of the valentine. With some investigation on my part it is sold exclusively at Target stores by mellosmello.com company.

We were able to avert an incident as we check all items that come into school for school parties and birthday’s -mostly because of severe food allergies.

Our concern is that one it is a toy in pill form and what if a child should think it is candy and put it into their mouth and it gets lodged in their throat, stomach or intestine. It only requires warm or hot water to activate it. Also, there may be an age restriction on it but none was on the individual valentine’s sent in. Worried even for older kids and teenagers who might dare another to put not just one but many of these into their mouth for popping and etc.

Appreciate your attention to this matter in advance and look forward to hearing from you.
