  1. No one hurt

Made Nov 17, 2015, sent to the company Nov 25, 2015, published by CPSC Dec 10, 2015

The product, in the report: Simply Enjoy Pomodoro Basilico Sauce in a jar that’s suppose to be microwavable

Followed instructions on jar of Simply Enjoy Pomodoro Basilico sauce “Microwave, remove lid and film, place in microwave & cover loosely. Heat on High 2-3 min, until hot.” removing film left a ring of aluminum which started the paper towel cover on fire. Not wanting to damage micro, I opened door and threw the flaming towel into the sink. Half of it fell onto the floor where I had trouble stamping it out. At the same time thinking I sure hope the fleece on my slippers is not flammable. I contacted the distributer with the phone # on the label and reported incident. Apparently, the distributor has different labeling, but this wording was directed by Stop & Shop. I asked to be included on resolution to prevent potential worse outcomes especially with less calm individuals. (Note: the top of the jar rim also melted and burned.) Oct 14th was 1st contact & I followed up several times. Meanwhile a front page feature promotion has gone out with no change to this label. I suggested several remedies; on product in stores, cover over with a label stating to microwave in another container, going forward make the film like those on popular entrees with no metal component, and lastly on new product change the instructions to insure this doesn’t happen. My complaint Was forwarded on to Ahold ( S &S ) Corporate headquarters. It is now over one month and the risk of fire still exists due to poor instructions. I believe this applies to other sauces they have as well.
