  1. First aid

Made May 6, 2026, sent to the company May 8, 2026, published by CPSC May 22, 2026

The product, in the report: https://www.costco.com/p/-/snapware-pyrex-18-piece-glass-food-storage-set/100358145 This is Snapware Pyrex 18 piece set sold by costco

Description: Snapware Pyrex Glass Food Storage Set (purchased at Costco). The containers are glass with plastic lids featuring four locking “snap” latches.

Incident Details: I am reporting a significant safety hazard regarding glass chipping and shedding. While consuming a meal stored in one of these containers, my lip and tongue were cut by a sharp glass shard found within the food.

Upon immediate inspection of the container, I discovered that the glass rimspecifically at the points where the plastic lid latches snap shut against the glassis chipping off. The glass is coming away in thin shards, strips, and “flakes” that are sharp and uneven to the touch. It appears that the repeated mechanical pressure and friction from the locking latches are causing the tempered glass to fail and compromise the structural integrity of the rim.

    Usage Context:

User: The product was being used by an adult.

How it was used: The containers were being used as intended for standard food storage and meal consumption. They have been handled carefully and have not been dropped or subjected to unusual impact.

Comparison: I have used legacy Pyrex products for over 7 years without ever experiencing this type of flaking or chipping, suggesting a specific defect in this Snapware-Pyrex latch design or the glass quality of this set.

    Injury Information:

Injuries Sustained: Lacerations to the lip and tongue.

How injuries occurred: The injuries occurred when a shard of glass, which had chipped off the rim and fallen into the food, was unknowingly ingested during a meal.

Potential Risk: There is a high risk of more severe internal injury if these shards are swallowed, or eye injury if the flaking occurs while the lid is being snapped shut.

Current Status of Product: I have stopped using the remaining containers in the set. I have retained the containers which clearly show the chipping at the latch points as evidence.

The product, in the report: Snapware Pyrex 18-piece Glass Food Storage Set

    Dear Consumer Product Safety Commission,

I am writing to formally report a serious safety issue with the Snapware Pyrex 18-piece Glass Food Storage Set, which poses a risk of injury due to glass chipping and contamination.

On July 7, while eating lunch stored in one of the round glass containers from this set, I bit into a piece of broken glass. Upon inspection, I found that the glass rim had chipped off, likely caused by pressure from the plastic lid snapping into place. Several other containers from the same set also show signs of similar chipping and damage along the rims.

This is not an isolated incident. I had previously noticed small shards of glass from this set but did not connect them to a design flaw until this more serious incident occurred. The potential for internal injury, especially to children or vulnerable adults, is significant.

I contacted the manufacturers customer service on July 8 and was told the issue would be escalated. However, I have received no response or resolution as of today (July 12). I also submitted an email complaint on July 9 with documentation and have not received any acknowledgment.

I believe this product presents a defect in either design or manufacturing and warrants immediate investigation. I am unable to attach photos in this message, but I would be happy to provide photographic evidence and a copy of my original complaint upon request.

Please let me know the best way to proceed or if you need any additional information to investigate this matter.

The product, in the report: Food Container, Glasslock

The consumer says that in January he used the containers with the plastic snap on lid. They worked fine for the first few months. He snapped the lid shut, and preheated the contents inside on the following night. He saw a glass shard about an inch and a half to two inches long. After looking at the containers, he noticed they are breaking off from the lip. He then saw three or four more shards on his counter top. The consumer says it is very difficult to snap the lid into place, which a friend of his also told him that who happens to have the same product. The consumer believes that is what may be causing pieces of glass to break off from the container. He plans on returning the product to the store for a refund.
