  1. No one hurt

Made Feb 26, 2017, sent to the company Apr 20, 2017, published by CPSC May 11, 2017

The product, in the report: The GrowlTap is a patent-pending design that ensures the beer in your growler remains fresh and carbonated. Growlers are used to transport beer home from craft breweries. They are typically glass. This device uses small high pressure CO2 cartridges as a source for dispensing the gas at a regulated pressure directly into the glass container.

My wife purchased a GrowTap beer dispenser for me for Christmas. I had not used it, yet, when she received the following email: Dear GrowlTap Customers, This letter is to inform you that we have discovered a defective GrowlTap was manufactured and shipped out over this holiday season. The GrowlTap was not given sufficient time to cool during the plastic molding process causing two obstructions to form inside the manifold. These obstructions blocked the GrowlTap’s two pressure relief safety features. This resulted in a growler failure. There has been only one reported incident and after reviewing GrowlTaps from the same manufacturing run we have not found another defective GrowlTap. We have updated our quality control with a new test that checks for this specific issue. The likelihood that this manufacturing defect occurring twice is low, however, our top priority is your safety. A sign of the defect would be a completely non-functioning GrowlTap. If you have already used your GrowlTap and it pours beer your GrowlTap is not at risk. If your GrowlTap has not been used yet we ask that you email us at, customersupport@growltap. com to receive a return shipping label and replacement GrowlTap at no cost to you. We will also provide full refunds if you would prefer. We are truly sorry for this incident and inconvenience. We look forward to continuing our mission to protect and serve beer. Cheers, [REDACTED] Growltap.com [REDACTED]

I have sent at least 3 emails in reply to this notification, requesting a return and replacement, and received NO reply. My wife also emailed them, twice. Again, no reply. Also, I went onto their website and requested a return and replacement. Again, no reply. So, it would seem that after notifying me and others (they sent the email to about 75 people, and did not BCC it, so I received email addresses for everyone that they contacted), they are now refusing to do anything about it. I can give you the other emails if you would like. Perhaps a call from your office will change their mind. I would appreciate it. I am afraid to use this thing, it uses a pressurized CO2 cartridge to maintain carbonation in glass beer growlers, and I don’t know if the defect can cause an explosion of glass. Thank you for your help.
