The consumer indicates that she was cutting hair at her salon when a spray mousse that hadn’t been used in a couple of weeks and that was sitting in a styling station exploded. The consumer notes that the product sitting in front of the spray mousse blew fifteen feet away.

Rang our ears a d if my wife would of been in the bathroom at the time it could of killed her. We would like some kind of restitution for this taking place. My Redken Guts10 exploded under my bathroom counter about 3pm, even ambient temp. Sounded like a shot gun blast, broke other items in close range. AND, scared me so bad I was shaking all afternoon. Product was stored at the time. No injuries, just clean up on Aisle 10, it was a mess! It could have caused damage if I had been standing in front of the counter.

A can of Redken Guts 10 Volume Spray Mousse Foam exploded inside a closed bathroom cabinet at 10:30 pm. It blew two of the three doors open, knocked down every container in the cabinets, blew off lids, dented hairspray cans, splattered foam onto wall and shower curtain, entire floor and even into hall. Pieces of metal from the can were everywhere. Huge blast. We thought it was a car crash outside.

The can of Guts 10 hair product was sitting in my bathroom counter. It blew up!!! The shredded can, top, and insides went everywhere. Hit the ceiling and walls and scraped them up. Sounded like a bomb went off. It broke plastic containers near it and created lots of plastic shrapnel everywhere. Thank GOD I was not in the bathroom. I could have been injured or maimed. It blew the sticky mousse everywhere. A giant diasaster that has taken hours to clean up and has ruined paint on my walls and ceiling. I had no idea that there was a recall? Why didn’t they put something up in the hair salons? I asked at my salon and they had not heard it.

A Redken GUTS 10 VOLUME SPRAY FOAM exploded in bathroom cabinet-such force it shattered many other containers (nail polish) and broke two shelves with debri going 5 ft. away from the cabinet. We heard a loud explosion and began searching the house. God was watching over us as no one was in the bathroom at the time, there would have been severe injury had one of us been in the bathroom. Why wasn’t Redken forced to have Salons who sold this product alert customers who purchased it? I will never buy another Redken product. The picture of the canister is frightening and I would hope that Redken will be held liable to reimburse us for all the damage caused to our bathroom. Furthermore, the Redken website has an application error that prevents sending a communication and no one is answering the numbers provided.

At 1:30AM I was woken up to the sound of an explosion. I found a can of Redken Gut 10 Volume Spray Foam Mousse had exloded. It was stored in my bathroom cabinet under the sink. It had blown the 2 doors open and all my other product in the cabinet was blown out on to the floor. There was mousse blown everywhere inside the cabinet, on the floor, on the walls. The bottom of the can was completely blown off. The rest of the can looked like an open can of biscuits. This could have been very harmful if I had been holding this in my hands using the product. This is very dangerous.

This is a warning for anyone who may have the hair product Redken 10 Gut Mousse in their home. On September 17, 2019 my husband and I were both awakened from a sound sleep by a loud explosion at 2:00 a.m. in the morning. We searched our house from the upstairs to the basement and found nothing. We checked outside and found nothing. Very strange and scary experience. The next day I noticed the bottom drawer on one of our vanities was open. When I attempted to close the drawer I found it was off the track. When I looked closer I noticed all of the hair products I store in that drawer were all jumbled and covered in dried product of some sort. In the midst of all them all was a can of Redken 10 Gut Mousse. The side of the can was completely blown open. The other cans in the drawer had dents in them. In addition, the sides of the drawer were detached from the drawer guide and the back board on the drawer was blown off completely!!! I can only imagine what would have happened it someone had picked up the can and tried to use it when it decided to explode!!! In our case no one was injured but my concern lies with how many consumers still may have this product and are not aware of the danger. I understand the product was recalled, but the average consumer never gets those recall notices as was my case. The Redken Company has confirmed the can I had was one on the recall list. I further understand that most people don’t keep products as long as I had this one. I probably bought it to try, and never used it again so it was in the back of my hair supply products. I have no idea what can be done to protect others from this defective product but I do not want to see anyone hurt which is why I am submitting this information

Caller stated that the metal bottle that holds the foam gel exploded while she was away from home. She stated that came back to find cans and other bottles thrown across the room, she thought that it might have been a break-in.
Caller stated that the force of the explosion cause a hole in the tray where it was located and to her drapes. The liquid splattered all over the wall in the room. She stated that she found the bottle on the kitchen floor. She believes the bottle became a projectile or had a ricochet effect when the incident occurred.
Caller stated that she was not sure when she had made the purchase and that it could have been years.

I wanted to let you know that I just had a major issue with a bottle of RedKen Guts #10. I just learned about the recall when I went on RedKen’s page to report the explosion. I bought the bottle several years ago, however the bottle was never mistreated and was stored in an indoor closet that wasn’t hot. Yesterday I heard a loud explosion in my house. I ran towards the noise and then I heard what I thought was water. The bottle of Guts #10 had exploded in my bathroom closet. It blew a hole in the drywall and covered the inside of my closet and all of the contents of the closet with sticky mousse. I have no idea why the can would explode or what caused it to do so. I wanted to make you aware of the situation. I will not be purchasing anymore of Redken’s aerosol products. Had I been holding the product or even if I had left it out on my bathroom counter, I or someone in my family could have gotten extremely injured. The top of the container blew plastic and metal pieces all over the place. I am extremely alarmed by this and surprised that a product that I thought was a quality one would do this.

The date was 8-19-17 at approximately 1:00 pm when I heard a loud boom which startled our pets. At first I thought it was a gunshot or gas explosion, searching the house I found the bathroom cabinet door was wide open with four glass bottles of perfume were smashed on the floor. There was a white sticky residue all of the inside of the cabinet walls and shelf as well as the bathroom floor directly outside the open door cabinet. As I looked inside the cabinet seeing the residue I noticed the aerosol can of Redkin 5th Avenue Guts spray-mousse hair product had blown apart into 2 pieces.

I had a can of Redken Guts 10 that I still used occasionally, explode in my bathroom cabinet. It blew open the door and the other 3 items in that cabinet were blown out onto the floor. The debris and content of the Redken product were all over the floor, walls and counters of the bathroom and it is a large bathroom with a “his” and “hers” end of the room. I had just painted and remodeled and it trashed the walls. Thankfully, this happened while we were in the den because the cabinet is right beside the vanity where I sit to get ready each day. It sounded like a gun shot, scared us all.

A can of Redken Guts 10 spray hair foam exploded in my bathroom cabinet. It sounded like a bomb going off. The entire house shook and we were sure a car had run into our home. After investigating the extremely loud noise; we found the bathroom cabinet doors were blown open and the can of Redken Guts 10 spray had exploded. It caused damage to the inside of the cabinet as well as many other surrounding products. The spray was all over the room, walls, floors and everything in sight. Products were blown across the room and on to the tile floor. It took over 2 hours and 2 people to clean up the huge mess. We had to discard a large garbage bag of broken bottles of cologne, many other expensive beauty and hair products, and 2 diabetes meters that became gunked up with the spray mess. The shelf in the cabinet was blown away from the side of the cabinet as well as the retaining clips that hold the sink in place. Walls were sprayed with the gunk which will require repainting. This also posed a respiratory concern for me as I have asthma and the inhaled chemicals caused me some breathing issues. I did wear a surgical style mask while working on the clean up to lessen my exposure. My ears are still hurting from the loud noise. I was not aware of the recall on the product until a google search was done.

Yesterday (01/04/2017) I took my wife to work … (‘cause that’s what some of us retirees do when our spouse is still working). When I got home I encountered some serious destruction in our bathroom. My first thought was to check the rest of the house for any other vandalism and to check the garage to make sure my wife’s car was still there. Thankfully, everything else was alright. Back to the bathroom … what a mess! Long story short – an old can of Redken Guts 10 (aerosol) Spray Mousse had exploded! Lot # EX322C 14:05 UPC # 43877 05794 3 It blew a mirrored door completely off a bathroom cabinet and scattered the cabinet’s contents throughout the small bathroom. Less than an hour before that my wife had been in the direct line of fire. Thank God she had somewhere else to be when it happened! When the Redken blew, it tore open a couple plastic product bottles. One of them was a pink [REDACTED]lotion. The pink splatter throughout the room was a pretty good indication of just how intense the explosion had been. I wasn’t terribly surprised to find we were not the first. Redken had issued a recall more than five and a half years ago – April 12, 2011. Somehow, we didn’t get that memo. Unfortunately, these cans are still out there and still exploding. Comments on another page indicate at least six others have exploded since last June. And these are just the ones that were reported on that site. Obviously, the problem still exists.

I am writing this report on behalf of my 87 year old mom. She was awakened at 2 am by what she described as a bomb going off. She was quite shaken as she lives alone, but proceeded to check her home and garage, thinking her car had blown up. She discovered the can of Redken Guts 10 Mousse completely exploded in her bathroom. The can exploded with such force that it knocked everything else off the vanity, shattering other bottles. The force of the explosion blew a hole in the drywall next to where the can had been. There was goop all over her walls and shards everywhere. Although this was very upsetting, she is very fortunate that the bathroom was unoccupied when this occurred as someone would definitely have been injured by the force of the sharp metal. I was called in the morning and went to survey the damage, recover the destroyed can, and take pictures. We now have a major mess to clean up.

On 6/10/2016 @ 1830 We heard a large explosion that came from our first floor. We were in the basement. It was so loud that I thought a car had went off the highway and struck the front of our home. We ran upstairs to investigate the noise and found supplies that had been in our linen closet were scattered all over the floor and the closet door was open. I came across the REDKEN GUTS 10 SPRAY FOAM canister that was split wide open, with its full contents covering the entire closet full of sheets, towels, toiletry and paper products, as well as electronics. The contents of the foam product sprayed all over the paint on the walls inside and outside in the hallway closet. It was very lucky no one was in the hallway, as it was only minutes after my children had finished their showers. My PTSD from the Iraq war startled me and put me on edge as this sound was like a bomb exploding.
My wife is allergic to this product and is very concerned that it will cause skin irritations due to soaking into sheets, towels, and other supplies. We also will have to deal with the damage to our painted walls, carpeting, wood trim and door. We have already thrown out some electronics and products (electric razor, hair clippers, curling iron, and clothing).

On 03/16/15 the consumer was in her home watching television when she heard a loud noise similar to a gun shot blast. The consumer and her husband searched in their home to find where the noise came from. The consumer went in her bathroom and noticed the container was on the floor with the bottom of the container missing. The spray foam was all around the bathroom cabinets and floor. The container damaged other products and items that had been around it.
The consumer believes the container was 3 quarters full.
The consumer has not contacted the firm but plans to. There are no prior incidents.

The product, in the report: Redken Volume 10 Guts Hair Mousse [Can}

Approximately 1-1/2 weeks ago (August 6, 2014) my husband discovered the doors to my vanity in an open position with the contents I had stored in the vanity cabinet (other hair products, etc.) had spilled out and were lying outside the cabinet doors on the floor. We noticed a type of substance that had covered everything stored in the cabinet. We discovered a can of Redken’s Volume 10 Guts Hair Mousse had exploded. I’m very lucky I wasn’t using the product at the time, or had it sitting out on top of my counter top at the time of the explosion potentially causing bodily harm.

My husband and I were sitting in the living room when what sounded like a shotgun going off just down the hall way. We went to investigate and found that a can of Redken volume spray foam had exploded in the bathroom closet. It had enough force to send other products off the shelf and it even cracked the drywall in the closet. It was so load it scared the beans out of us. I have pictures of the can and the closet and the products on the floor.

The product, in the report: Redken No10 volumizing mouse called “Guts”

The family heard a large explosion sound, similar to that of an M80 firecracker that came from within our home. When we began to lool around, we finally noticed a mouse canister that contained hair care product inside had exploded. The canister was located inside a hallway storage/supply closet. Inside the closet were additional bathroom products.
Had it not been for the fact that the explosion took place at 10:00 in the evening when my children were asleep, they could have been easily in harms way.
I took photos of the canister for additional research, if needed.

There was a fairly loud explosion in my bathroom. Thankfully, no one was in there since the cabinet door was blown open. It appears to be my canister of Redken Guts Hair Mousse that completely exploded. It blew holes into and completely demolished some other products that were stored in the cabinet also.
If this had happened just a few minutes earlier, my son would have been affected by this and injured, for sure, as he was just standing there washing his face prior to the explosion!

I was sitting in my living room when I heard an explosion, I went to search where it came from and found a can of Redken 5th Avenue NYC styling No10 guts 10.58oz. had exploded. It was sitting in a metal tray with some other products near my bathroom sink. It tore apart the metal tray and sent the rest of the things flying through the air, lotions hit the floor and opened and splattered all over my bathroom walls and all my ceramic bath accessories had shattered all over the bathroom floor. My mirrors were running with lotions as well, but did not break the mirrors. The explosion had sent things flying away from the mirror, Thank God. My husband had just been standing at his sink not 5 minutes before all this happened. Needless to say, we are in shock that this happened and thank God there were no injuries.

I purchased 4 cans of Gut 10 Volume Spray Foam at Beauty Brands within the last year. In July I came home to a mess--my bathroom vanity had been blown open--I had between 15-20 hair products on the floor--I had broken plastic everywhere, gunk on floor--blown up can on floor--and spray all over the paint on the wall behind the cabinet. I was very lucky no one was in the room--my dogs, children etc. Also that I was not using this when it blew up.
The aerosol container’s liner can corrode over time, posing a risk of the cans rupturing and expelling its contents.

The product, in the report: Redken Guts styling foam. This product exploded in our bathroom cabinet, destroying the cabinet.

A can of Redken Guts sytling foam blew up in our bathroom cabinet. It blew the door off the cabinet and made a huge mess. Our cabinet is ruined and we may have to refinish our bathroom door also as it seems to have taken the impact of the explosion. We are thankful no one was injured, but we are mindful of how dangerous this was and that our children, who use that bathroom the most, could have been seriously injured. We looked this product up online and have found a recall on it. But, this sort of thing is not known unless you look for it and we wouldn’t have thought to until the explosion. We have taken pictures of the damage and the can which blew up. We will be contacting Redken directly and we expect to receive compensation to replace our cabinet at the very least. This was a very dangerous situation.

We heard a loud bang, awakening us and setting off our burglar alarm. This occurred on Thursday morning, June 6th at 4 AM. We discovered a Redken 5th Avenue NYC, Styling No. 10 Guts, aerosol can had exploded. There were no injuries. The can was located in a bathroom linen closet. The door had been blown open and the can’s contents were all over the closet, its ceiling walls and doors. We still have the misshapen, exploded can.

I had a can of Redken 10 Guts Spray Mousse Foam in the cabinet beneath the bathroom sink. In the middle of the night the can exploded. No heat or open flame anywhere near it. At about 12:30 P.M. my husband and I were sleeping. We were awakened by a LOUD noise and the sounds of glass breaking. My husband thought someone had run into the side of our house. We jumped out of bed and looked all around but could find nothing amiss. My husband went back gto bed and I went into the master bathroom. It was a shambles. Everything was on the floor. There were two shelves on the toilet top holding bath powder, qo-tips, sponges, combs, hair care products, etc. Everything was on the floor and the containers broken and the contents scattered everywhere. there was a shelf on the wall holding cologne, lipstick and perfume.l All had been thrown to the floor and broken. A can of hair spray that had been on the top of the toilet was in the bathtub on the other side of the room. A can of Redken GUTS had blown apart and was mangled. Its contents covered the floor, ceiling, walls and vanity.
