The product, in the report: Aerosol pepper spray
I bought a Pepper Blitz SD-4 made by Counter Assault (counterassault.com) from a sporting goods store in Missoula, MT. I dropped it from waist height and the cap shattered, rendering the entire thing useless, as well as dangerous. Without the cap the tip of the aerosol can is exposed, making accidental release of the product possible. The cap is made out of a brittle plastic, making this type of accident quite likely under commonly encountered circumstances.
When I contacted the manufacturer about the defective product they simply denied that there was any problem with it, and claimed that all manufacturers used the same cap, implying that the entire industry puts its users in the same risk.
