  1. No one hurt

Made Aug 18, 2019, sent to the company Sep 19, 2019, published by CPSC Oct 3, 2019

The product, in the report: Drivers Choice car tire shine aerosol can.

I purchased two aerosol cans of Drivers Choice tire shine at a Dollar Tree store in Hicksville, NY on 8/4/19. I put the cans on the back seat and drove home and left them in the car. It was about 85 degrees outside and when I parked I put a shade on the inside of the windshield. About two or three hours later I was outside and heard a bang noise from the car. I looked and saw that the windshield had a shatter spot the size of a baseball.

I opened the car door to see one of the cans on the passenger side front floor and glass fragments on the dash, console and floor. One of the cans had blown out the top where the spray valve is located! I suspect that the cans had been subject to high heat during shipping at one point as one of the cans on the store shelf was empty but it looked perfectly normal. Or there was a defect in the way the can was manufactured. I brought the second can in the garage and noticed that the top of the can itself was white color but the can that exploded was a light bronze color.

In my opinion this a significant safety concern as these cans can apparently exploded at temperatures that all kinds of aerosols may have also been exposed to. You can imaging the kind of injury this can may have inflicted on anyone getting into the car.
