The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Aerosol spray nozzle of Biofreeze Menthol Spray, 3 fl. oz, for relieving pain

Writing to ask you review the risks/dangers posed by a SPRAY product from BIOFREEZE. The spray nozzle disperses the product in a wide area (despite being held close to the affected area of skin). If a person depresses the sprayer, the droplets fly in all directions posing a risk to the eyes, nasal passages and oral cavity of any person (including a child or pet) within the vicinity. A few days ago, when using this product for the first time, applied some of the spray on my lower backside. I don’t know if that was a normal dispersal pattern, but the menthol spray landed everywhere.

Yes, I did sustain an injury. I did not realize droplets landed inside my underwear which I had dropped to my knees. After applying the spray to my lower back along my waistline, I pulled my briefs up. The droplets in my underwear made contact with my testicles which resulted in an extremely painful burn which lasted for hours. I tried diluting the menthol where it had come into contact, but soap water was unable to make any difference in lessening the pain.

I fear someday someone will use this product just as a small child runs up to or near them (or someone’s pet) and gets droplets in their eyes, nose or mouth.

Today I contacted the toll-free number listed on the product (1-866-682-4639) and notified them of my concern.

    The product’s UPC = 31124-00007.
