How badly anyone was hurt

  • No one hurt 3 CPSC: Incident, No Injury

As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Nov 28, 2012, sent to the company Dec 18, 2012, published by CPSC Jan 11, 2013

The product, in the report: Reusable Folding Drink Pouch with plastic pull-top seal.

Product - SharkSkinzz Kids Water Bottles

This product poses a huge choking risk.

I purchased the reusable drink pouches through Groupon.

We were happy with the product until my son swallowed the small white cap that seals the top. (most children use their teeth to pull up on this piece to open the seal) We called our pediatrician who has advised us to go to the ER if the piece is not passed in 48 hours. My son is 8 and was able to swallow the piece to avoid total obstruction of his airway, but a smaller child could very well choke to death on that loose piece. It pulls off easily.

I tested all ten pouches and they all pull off very easily.

The product, in the report: SharkSkinzz Reusable Folding Drink Pouch - 7.5 fl. oz’s. The designs are various superheros and “nemo” characters. I just purchased six “boys” SharkSkinzz water bottles through a Groupon for my sons ages 4, 3 and 17 mos. The designs are various superheros and “nemo” characters. Here’s the Groupon description: Simply toss SharkSkinzz water bottles in the fridge or freezer to cool down drinks without damaging the BPA-free and antimicrobial material. The foldable and reusable bottles resist punctures and leaks, even after trips through the dishwasher on the top rack. Lighter than containers made from glass, aluminum, or gossamer fairy wings, these eco-friendly bottles fit comfortably in kids’ hands or pockets.

The very tip of the water bottle must be pulled out in order to drink from the spout. Pull just a bit too hard (does not take much effort at all) and the tip pops off, which is about the size of the tip of your finger. This poses a significant choking hazard for anyone - children and adults. I am no longer using the products. Groupon shows that over 5,000 purchases were made.

The product, in the report: Collapsible water bottle for children with sport-cap type spout.

Shark Skinzz collapsible water bottles for kids were sold on Groupon.com. The bottles come with a sport-type cap that you pull up to open. When I opened the cap for my kids (ages 6 and 4) it came right off in my hand. I am concerned that these loose-fitting caps are a choking hazard for small children.
