The product, in the report: Children’s liquid Benadryl cherry flavor 8oz bottles
I opened my bottle of Benadryl one night in October and took a sip. As I swallowed I felt something solid but it was already headed down my throat. It took me about an hour to push this thing down my esophagus and I nearly had to go to the ER but finally got it down. I spent a week with pain from that. After inspection of the bottle next to a brand new bottle I realized that the plastic disc they put in the cap had come loose. When I opened the bottle to use it the disc stayed behind but as it was dark I didn’t know. This disc is the size of the cap. At least as big as a nickel. I’m stunned I managed to get it down on my own. Normally this disc is glued into the cap and would take a lot of effort to remove. But suddenly they are just falling out. I contacted the company the next day because if I barely got it down, a child or baby would not be able to. They sent me through all the motions. Filling out forms, sending in the bottles to be inspected. I was very cooperative as I was very worried about this and expected them to recall the lot. They did not. They did nothing. I continued to get bottles from that lot regularly and the disc was not attached in any of them. I’ve got a little ptsd now so I remove and dispose of the disc as soon as I open the bottle even if I have to put a lot of effort into removing it. For a little while I was getting properly glued down discs. Thought maybe they fixed it. Until last week. I opened the brand new bottle and the disc instantly fell out and landed on my wrist. I’m DONE. This is unacceptable. They know full well that this is an issue and a choking hazard and they are not fixing it. If someone has a mobile baby at home and that disc falls on the floor when they open the bottle and they don’t notice, that baby is going to put it in their mouth and CHOKE. This needs to be dealt with before they kill a kid.
