The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: any 8oz bottled water. all caps are so small, kids most likely don’t bother to fully twist the cap back on.

preschool aged kids were drinking out of individual small bottles of water. Since they can’t finish in one drink, they replaced the caps loosely so they can easily drink more later. One child was distracted and put the bottle in his mouth with cap on. The cap went into his mouth. He started coughing and luckily, the cap did not go down into his throat, but instead went to the side of his cheek. I pulled it out. A child beside him told him to just swallow it.

The product, in the report: Nestle Pure Life bottled water, 16 ounces

On Friday, June 19 my 12-year-old son was drinking a Nestle Pure Life water bottle. He finished half of the water and put the top back on. He then but the bottle in his mouth and squeezed. The top immediately came off and acted like a projectile into his throat. His throat was fully blocked and he choked. Fortunately a bystander performed the Heimlich and the bottle top popped out of his mouth.

The thin plastic water bottle caps on the Nestle Pure Life bottles (also on [REDACTED], [REDACTED], etc. brands) are very dangerous. They are so thin and do not have enough threads on them to sufficiently screw to the bottle. Unlike the larger tops on [REDACTED] bottles, they are easily dislodged with just a slight squeeze.

Please help manufacturers understand the inherent risks of these water bottle tops.
