The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Emergency room

Made May 17, 2018, sent to the company May 25, 2018, published by CPSC Jun 18, 2018

The product, in the report: Kroger brand grated parmesan cheese container with green lid

My 2 year old’s finger became stuck in the center hole of a parmesan cheese container lid. The center hole is shaped like a funnel, whereas the outer 2 holes are smooth. Due to the hole shape her finger would not come out and began to swell and cut off circulation. We tried putting oil on her finger and the lid to try to remove it but it would not come off. We had to take her to the emergency room where they had to numb her finger and cut the lid off her finger - the doctor was unable to pull it off even with her finger numb because of the shape of the hole. The effort of pulling and twisting the lid cut her finger. It was a very scary experience for her and us.

I reported the incident the next day and sent the lid, pictures, and hospital summary to the manufacturer. 2 months later i hear back from them that they don’t see the product as a safety concern and that there have been no other incidents. A quick search online shows many similar incidents of children getting their finger stuck in the same type of parmesan container lid with the same type of holes.

I ask that the design of this product be reviewed for child safety - especially the lids with the funnel shaped hole the same size as toddler fingers.
