The product, in the report: Gevalia Tassimo T-55 coffee T Disc coffee pods

I have been using these gevalia tassimo discs in my tassimo T-55 coffee brewer and have had to return 3 coffee makers because of the malfunction of the t disc. The discs are not puncturing properly and becoming clogged so the pressurized steaming hot coffee spews out the front top instead if going into the cup. It caused my first three coffee makers to lock up so I could not open and remove the used disc so I didn’t readily recognize the disc as the problem, on my FOURTH new machine today ( brewing my first cup after going thru the proper set up instructions and 4 plain water cycles).... I was able to retrieve the disc and examine the problem. I immediately chose another type of coffee from another package and all worked properly. There were minor burns sustained on my hands and and damage to my tile grout now stained with spewed coffee.

The product, in the report: Gevalia Kaffee-branded [REDACTED] single use coffee pods for use with Keurig coffee makers.

Gevalia manufactures “[REDACTED]” single-serve coffee pods for use with Keurig-style coffee makers. These pods are a thin plastic container having a sealed foil lid on the upper surface. Inside is a porous filter that is connected to the upper, inner surface of the plastic container. There is an air gap between the lower end of the porous filter and the bottom of the plastic container. A single use portion of ground coffee is placed in the filter, and the foil lid is sealed.

In use I placed the [single serve coffee pod] in my [REDACTED] coffee maker as directed. This coffee maker has a top puncture to pierce the foil lid and allow hot water (192 F) to enter the container and brew the coffee in the container. The coffee maker has a lower puncture to pierce the bottom of the container to allow the brewed coffee to flow into a mug/cup.

On the 17th of February, while using a Gevalia-branded [single cup coffee pod] the coffee stopped flowing after approximately 4/5 of a typical brew. I opened the [REDACTED] coffee maker (as designed) to remove the [single cup coffee pod] and throw it away. Upon opening the coffee maker hot water immediately splashed on me and about the area of the coffee maker.

I inspected the [single cup coffee pod] by removing the foil liner and disposing of the used coffee grounds. I noticed that the inner filter had been pierced by the lower puncture. This allowed for coffee grounds to fill and clog the lower puncture so that coffee could no longer be dispensed. The undispensed hot water was essentially a pressurized water source that was released when I opened the [REDACTED] machine. Had I not been wearing a long-sleeve shirt and glasses I might have been burned/injured by the hot water/coffee that splashed.

I have used many different [single cup coffee pods] “flavors”, and they have typically been [REDACTED] -branded. These [single cup coffee pods] have never had their inner liners pierced by the lower puncture. It appears that the pressurized hot water, the weight of the brewing coffee grounds, the the flexibility of the inner filter allowing for the filter to “stretch” while the brewing process was occurring thus allowing the lower puncture to pierce the filter.

As of right now I still have the defective [single cup coffee pod] and the remaining, unused [single pod coffee pods].
