The product, in the report: sewing machine
My Kenmore sewing machine, model 385.19110, started sewing on it’s own when I was nowhere near the foot pedal. After several episodes of this happening, sometimes when I was over at the ironing board, and sometimes while I was still sitting at the machine, it also started continuing to run after I had removed my foot from the foot pedal. At other times, regardless of the amount of pressure I put on the foot pedal, the machine would start out sewing at the speed I wanted, then jump into extremely fast and the only way to stop it would be to turn the machine off. In each of these cases of running on it’s own, the only way to stop it was to turn the machine off.
On one of the first occasions this happened, I was positioning the fabric to sew and the machine started on it’s own and the needle hit my fingernail, bent and went thru the corner of my nail and thru my finger at the corner of the nail. This was very painful and when I automatically jerked my hand away, the needle ripped out of my finger from the corner of my nail out. It took a while to heal, and even longer to stop being tender to touch.
My husband cleaned the footpedal contacts of lint it had accumulated and there has been no repeat of the problem so far.
