The product, in the report: Yoplait Original Low Fat Strawberry Yogurt Pack 8 ct / 6 oz UPC: 0007047040387. Other flavors that come in the eight-count packs using the new truncated cardboard packaging are also vulnerable, such as Yoplait Original Low Fat Strawberry & Strawberry Banana Yogurt Pack 8 ct / 48.00 oz UPC: 0007047040391, or Yoplait Original Low Fat Strawberry & Harvest Peach Yogurt Pack 8 ct / 6 oz UPC: 0007047040389.
General Mills/Yoplait decided sometime in 2023 to reduce the size of the outer cardboard packaging surrounding their 8-packs of 6-oz yogurt cups of Yoplait Original Low Fat Yogurt such that now the four exterior cups (two on either end) are half-hanging out of the package, exposed and unprotected during normal transport and handling (i.e., such as during delivery from manufacturer to store; during the storekeeper stocking the shelf; during handling by store cashier/check-out clerk; and/or during handling by Kroger Delivery driver until hand-off to the consumer). The plastic yogurt cups are made of the same thin plastic material as before; however, now that they are no longer protected by the once adequately effective and longer surrounding cardboard packaging, they are especially vulnerable simply to normal handling, resulting in crushed, cracked, and leaking containers of yogurt that create both a safety hazard in terms of spilled yogurt and potential food-borne illness due to air being allowed to enter the product containers through the resulting minute cracks in the thin plastic. Two of the end-hanging plastic cups of my yogurt pack were both crushed-in and cracked on the bottom such that air was allowed to enter, thus spoiling the product and making it unsafe to eat. And two interior cups were also damaged: the foil seals were slightly broken (popped) at the edge, having allowed air to enter. This has never happened to me prior to the change in packaging. The prior packaging was well-engineered, allowing the eight cups to be contained within (and covered by) the cardboard packaging at all times as well as allowing everyday handling forces to be distributed throughout the entire outer surface of the cardboard package without compromising the integrity of the fragile plastic cups inside (or their contents), thus making it safer for the consumer. I brought my complaint to General Mills’ attention several months ago, yet they continue to use the inadequate packaging for this product.
