The product, in the report: Rubbermaid glass storage containers with plastic lids

I have a set of glass Rubbermaid stackable storage containers with plastic lids. The glass is chipping off and leaving shards in the dish and creating a very dangerous situation. Im careful with my dishes, so cant explain the chips. The largest dish, which only has others stacked on top of it, has chips on the bottom lip.

The product, in the report: Rubbermaid Brilliance 10-pc. Glass Food Storage Container Set, purchased at Kohls, SKU: #54838877

Rubbermaid Brilliance 10-pc. Glass Food Storage Container Set - the 8 cup glass container was placed in the microwave (uncovered) to reheat food and in less than 3 mins the container exploded into hundreds of pieces. This is a safety concern. Be careful.

The product, in the report: 10-piece Rubbermaid Brilliance glass food storage containers

Back in March, I purchased Rubbermaid’s 10-piece Brilliance glass food storage containers from Target. Today, I opened one of my cupboards and a bunch of glass fell onto my counter and floor. I looked and saw the big glass container from the set had spontaneously shattered. Ironically, this container is the one in the entire 10-piece set that I have never used. I washed it back in March and put it in the cupboard and it sat there ever since. I spent almost an hour cleaning up the glass, from the lower and middle shelf of the cupboard, the granite countertop below, the gas range next to it, and the hardwood floor below it. There’s tiny pieces of glass, as small as a grain of sand to larger chunks. I took plenty of pictures and am happy to share, but I want to report this as this is a real safety concern. I know tempered glass if it’s improperly manufactured, can spontaneously shatter for no apparent reason.

  4. First aid

Made Feb 26, 2019, sent to the company Mar 5, 2019, published by CPSC Mar 27, 2019

The product, in the report: Rubbermaid glass “Press to Seal” tupperware-like storage, with “easy-find lids” - 5.5 cups, 1.3 L size. Glass base, plastic lid. Yes, lid is not oven safe, and glass container says No Broiler/No Stovetop, but we were not using the product for any of these functions. We simply put hot food in the container and laid the lid on top

Our Rubbermaid Glass “With Easy Finds” lids tupperware-like food storage container exploded suddenly in our kitchen after just putting hot food into this “heat safe” 5.5 cups/1.3 liter storage container. Just minutes after adding a hot food to the container, it exploded into tiny chards of glass, causing hours of cleanup but more importantly, scaring the CRAP out of all of us who were in the kitchen when it happened, and fortunately no one was hurt.

I was very disappointed as I had just purchased these lovely-looking glass tupperware storage containers during a Black Friday sales at Bed Bath and Beyond, and couldn’t wait to use them.

The result was, as mentioned above, a gazillion chards of small glass which flew violently into every knook and cranny of our kitchen (counters, lower cabinetry, floors, under kitchen island, under appliances, etc.), a very scared group of people in my kitchen, who were shocked by the explosion, and gratitude that someone had not been injured or near the product when it exploded.

This product needs to have better labeling. As far as I’m concerned, NOTHING HOT should go into these conntainers at all.

My result is that I have to make sure my kids only use the remaining pieces we purchased for cold food storage only, and to NOT HEAT THEM UP under any circumstances, out of fear that this will happen again.

Something should be done to rectify this problem/defect.

The product, in the report: Rubbermaid Easy Find Lid Glass Food Storage Container, 11-1/2 Cup (2856007)

Rubbermaid Easy Find Lid Glass Food Storage Container, 11-1/2 Cup (2856007) after 3 minutes in the microwave at 40% power it exploded. Many other such reviews on Amazon for similar problems. This product is unsafe and should be recalled and sales stopped. I can send a picture if needed.

  6. Seen by a doctor or nurse

Made Dec 1, 2015, sent to the company Dec 9, 2015, published by CPSC Dec 31, 2015

The product, in the report: Rubbermaid Easy Find Lid Glass Food Storage Container, 22-Piece Set

I just got my set of brand new glass storage containers. Was spooning leftovers from the slow cooker into the larger one and it exploded. Not chipped or broke. Literally exploded into hundreds of pieces. I found pieces 5 feet away in my dining room.

I contacted Rubbermaid and they acted like they have never had anyone report this and usually anything like this would be due to improper use. I informed them of multiple instances I have found online of this happening to other people and that I was spooning hot food (but not hot enough to even burn my skin... which I know because I ended up covered in the food) into a room temperature container that had only been hand washed once when I unpacked the containers.

I had to go to urgent care to have glass removed from my hands. They told me to send a receipt for the purchase along with pictures of the broken glass and they will send me a check for a refund. Very robotic customer service. No empathy (or surprise) to what had happened.

The product, in the report: Rubbermaid stack glass food storage containers with “Easyfind Lids” Assorted sizes and sold at BJ’s Wholesale Clug

I used a brand new Rubbermaid Glass bowl, from a set sold at BJ’s wholesale club, sold with “easy finf lids.” I was heating a bowl of clam chowder using 50% power and 1.25 minutes of high power to finish. I removed the bowl from the microwave and placed it on the cook-top, below. I began ladling the soup when the bowl exploded into hundreds of shards. The instructions state the bowls are microwave safe. The lid I used just lay across the top of the bowl so as not to creat a seal. The bowl was on the cook-top for at least 30 seconds prior to exploding. I was extremely fortunate to not be injured by the explosion, though that might easily not have been the case. I have written to the manufacturer as there offices have limited hours of operation. THIS PRODUCT MUST BE REMOVED FROM SHELVES. This product can easily cause severe injury, either directly upon explosion or by being splatted by the contents. I am still shaking, as I write this report. I do not have the box the product came with. I have, however, saved the shards in a plastic bag. Unfortunately, the clam chowder is intermingled with the shards. My wife, while I am typing this, is looking for all the glass on the counter, stove, and floor in my kitchen.
