The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Seen by a doctor or nurse

Made Aug 19, 2013, sent to the company Aug 27, 2013, published by CPSC Sep 11, 2013

The product, in the report: Canvas bin has metal rods soldered together in a frame with canvas sewn over.

This past April my daughter sliced her chest on a canvas bin holding her toys that we bought at Bed and Bath. One of the rods that connect the top corners broke off and the jagged edge broke through the canvas and cut her as she leaned in to pick up a toy. We sought medical attention and she will be ok. I wanted to bring this to your immediate attention for several reasons.

These products are sold at retailers including Bed Bath, The Container Store, Home Depot, and many others. We have contacted Bed Bath and Container Store accordingly. The manufacturer of this particular bin is ‘The RPI Group’ and Bed Bath confirmed as much.

We keep these bins all over the house, and they are routinely advertised as holding kids toys, ie http://www.containerstore.com/shop/closet/storageBoxesBins/viewAll?productId=10010493

Our daughter was lucky, had she reached any deeper into the bin, the rod could have punctured her chest. I assume thousands of people use these bins as we do and I hope you will take the steps necessary to fully investigate the cause and confirm for me the manufacturer so no one else is hurt.
