  1. First aid

Made Aug 29, 2026, sent to the company Sep 2, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 17, 2026

The product, in the report: This is the Pyrex 1-cup square lidded dish, part of the Pyrex Freshlock Glass 10-Piece Food Storage Set.

This concerns a Pyrex glass food storage container. I was hand washing it--we do not have a dishwasher--and one of the edges sliced through my thumb. Normally all edges of glassware, of all brands, are finished and rounded to prevent just such injuries. On this product, however, one edge has a razor sharp extension of glass. In my 73 years I have never encountered such a flaw in glassware. The item was brand new, I washed it out of the box.

This report concerns the pyrex snapware set sold at costco as recent as March 2026. Following normal use the glass containers began chipping along the internal edges, risking the contamination of food with glass shards. No injuries occurred before the products were returned.

GLASS SHARDS WITH PYREX STORE IT CONTAINERS - SAFETY ISSUE

On April 19, 2026, I ordered the following Pyrex Store It Simply Store glass containers from The Container Store: 2x 7 cup, 2x 4 cup, and 2x 2 cup. The 7 cup and 2 cup sizes were apparently out of stock nationwide, and The Container Store was not able to fulfill my order until July 3rd. I picked up the order on July 3rd at their [REDACTED] NYC store, but did not have time to open the containers until July 17th.

When I opened the containers, the first thing I did was to stack the two 7 cup containers. After stacking them a single time, I noticed that tiny, extremely sharp glass shards had fallen into the bottom container. When I examined the container more closely, I realized that the tiny shards had apparently broken off the rim of the bottom container when I stacked them.

Before purchasing the containers, I had checked with Pyrex customer service and was told it was ok to stack the containers. After discovering the glass shards on July 17th, I again called Pyrex customer service to check that it should be ok to stack the containers, and was again told that they were stackable. I told the Pyrex customer service representative about the glass shards, and she said she would forward my message to “the relevant department” and I would be contacted within 24 hours.

I didn’t hear back from Pyrex, so contacted Pyrex customer service again on July 21. The customer service representative told me I should return the containers to the store to obtain replacement or a refund.

I explained that my concern wasn’t just to get a refund: the glass shards were a potentially serious safety issue and I was concerned that other people who bought the containers might get hurt. I suggested that Pyrex might want to examine the containers to determine if there was a manufacturing problem, and asked if I should send the containers to Pyrex. The Pyrex customer service rep said they weren’t set up to do that, I should just return the containers to the seller.

Also on July 21, I followed up this phone conversation by sending a message to Pyrex customer service via their webform. I included both my phone number and email address. To date I have not heard back.

I believe there may be serious safety issue with these containers that Pyrex is apparently uninterested in addressing. These were brand new containers that I picked up directly from the store. They were never used, never heated, never cooled, and never subjected to impact while in my possession. I assume that they are from a newly manufactured batch of containers, and I’m concerned there may be a defect that could present a serious safety issue to other consumers.

Made May 5, 2026, sent to the company May 7, 2026, published by CPSC May 21, 2026

The product, in the report: Pyrex snapware -- All of the containers are prone to chipping. It is unclear where this chipped off, but the inner edge of them is often raised and sharp (older pyrex containers we have all of the edges are rounded), it seems likely that this chip was a length (approx 0.75”)of that edge chipped of an into my food. We have multiple sests of this pyrex container system. On one set the glass has a slight blue tint when the light is right. The container this food came from is the clearer containers, not the bluish ones.

The product, in the report: We have been using several sets of the Snapware Pyrex glass food storage containers for a few years. Recently upon opening one container, multiple glass shards ranging in size up to an inch were discovered in the food. We feel fortunate to have noticed before eating the food! Careful examination of all of our containers revealed that four of the set had chips out of the bottom of the glass rim. It is unknown if the glass can’t withstand the locking mechanism of the Snapware, or if the overhang lip is susceptible to breaking. Either way, these should be removed from the market.

The product, in the report: Pyrex glass Storage containers under the brand name Snapware.

I purchased a 10 or 12 piece set of Pyrex snapware storage containers. I noticed today that many of them are chipping and leaving behind several glass shards in the containers. This not only dangerous it clearly is a defect in manufacturing. I am throwing out all of the containers! The company should be held accountable and required to remove the products from stores and provide remediation to all consumers. I then inspected the other containers and noticed all had tiny chips in them but one.

The product, in the report: Pyrex clear glass storage bowls

This a complaint I sent to the maker of the Pyrex clear glass storage bowls I have a safety concern with .

I have a safety concern regarding my Pyrex clear glass storage bowls. the rim of the bowls have a poorly formed flat surface that have pieces of glass along the edge of the rim that VERY EASILY break off and if your not paying CLOSE attention to what you are doing when filling the bowls you could very easily end up with small sharp pieces of GLASS in your FOOD.... NOT GOOD ...... I will also be contacting the consumer product safety commission regarding this issue as well . I feel it would be much safer if you rounded and smoothed the edge of the containers or put a stainless steel ring over the edge to prevent this glass chipping issue . feel free to contact me if needed at [REDACTED]... thanks, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Rectangle Pyrex Glass-Lock storage container “4 cup 1.4L 02 Pyrex Made in USA 7211R 18. . .”

The lip on my Pyrex glass-lock storage container has sheared off leaving glass shards in the Pyrex container it was stacked inside. I crunched some while eating left-over fried chicken stored in it and just thought it was tiny pieces of gristle until the light reflected off the shards of glass on my plate. The longest shard was 2”. Most of them were granular, though I found a couple that were an 8th of an inch long. I called my daughter-in-law as I gave a set as a gift and I was worried about them and my grandchildren. I’m passing this on so you can warn other consumers.
