The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Apr 10, 2026, sent to the company Apr 14, 2026, published by CPSC Apr 28, 2026

The product, in the report: NWT Starbucks 2026 White Icey Leak Proof SS 40 oz Tumbler with Handle

NWT Starbucks 2026 White Icey Leak Proof SS 40 oz Tumbler with Handle The images show a clear manufacturing defect in the straw assembly of the NWT Starbucks 2026 White Icey Leak-Proof Stainless Steel 40 oz tumbler. Specifically, the issue appears to originate at the screw-in straw seal interface, where the clear plastic outer housing meets the inner straw component.

At that junction, there is a visible gap and irregular sealing surface. The plastic components do not form a uniform, airtight barrier. Instead, there are small voids and micro-crevices around the seam. These imperfections allow liquid and condensation to migrate into the enclosed portion of the straw assembly.

Because the straw system is designed as a sealed, non-serviceable unit, this trapped moisture cannot be accessed or removed through normal cleaning. Over time, the retained liquid creates a persistently damp environment inside the sealed cavity. The second image shows dark discoloration forming in a ring pattern within the internal channel, consistent with mold or microbial growth developing in areas that remain wet and oxygen-exposed.

    Additional contributing factors include:

The presence of textured or rough plastic edges inside the seam, which can trap residue and promote biofilm formation. A lack of drainage or airflow within the sealed compartment, preventing drying after washing. The inability to disassemble the straw for proper sanitation, making routine cleaning ineffective.

In practical terms, the defect results in a hidden contamination zone inside a consumer drinking component. Even when the visible portions of the straw appear clean, internal mold growth can persist and potentially spread.

This is not a typical wear issue. It is indicative of a design or manufacturing flaw in the seal geometry or assembly tolerances, where the interface fails to prevent fluid ingress while also preventing user access for cleaning.

The product, in the report: Starbucks Twist lock leakproof

The Starbucks vacuum-sealed lid, spill proof cup is great until its gross. There is no way to actually get up into the system to clean it and even after going through the dishwasher which they suggest against, I still sucked up a chuck of spoil milk! This was absolutely disgusting. After this happened, I smelled the straw that reeked of spoiled milk! This is not the first cup I have had not come clean inside, I have also had mold growing in them you cannot see it and the cup does not come apart to knowledge. I have called Starbucks over the straw not working properly, you get more air then drink.
