  1. First aid

Made Sep 3, 2026, sent to the company Sep 9, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 23, 2026

The product, in the report: Owala FreeSip insulated stainless steel water bottle, 24 oz, 710 mL. The bottle is light pink with a stainless steel insulated body and a plastic FreeSip lid. The product is designed as a reusable insulated drinking bottle for cold beverages. The bottom of the bottle is marked Owala, 24 OZ, 710 mL, Hand Wash Cup, Dishwasher Safe Lid, Do Not Microwave, Do Not Freeze. The bottle was received as a birthday gift approximately six months before the incident. The bottom base of the bottle has begun separating from the main stainless steel body. The separation has created a gap and a sharp exposed metal edge.

The product is an Owala stainless steel insulated water bottle that was received as a birthday gift approximately six months ago. The bottle was used normally as a reusable water bottle and was not subjected to unusual or improper use. During normal use, the bottom base of the bottle began separating from the main body of the bottle. The separation created a gap around the bottom edge and exposed a sharp metal edge. My 7 year old child was handling the bottle during normal use when their finger came into contact with the sharp exposed area created by the separation. The sharp edge cut their finger. The bottle has some cosmetic scratches from normal use. However, the concern being reported is not cosmetic wear. The concern is that the bottom portion of the bottle physically separated from the body of the bottle and created a sharp exposed edge that caused an injury. The bottle was only approximately six months old when this occurred. There was no known accident, drop, or unusual event that would explain the bottom of the bottle separating in this manner. I contacted Owala and submitted a warranty claim with photographs showing the separation. Owala denied the warranty claim and stated that their warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, accidents, or non standard use or care. I am reporting this incident because the structural separation of the bottom of the bottle created a sharp edge that caused an actual cut to my 7 year old child. I am concerned that this type of failure could cause injuries to other consumers, especially children. I have retained the bottle in its current condition and have photographs showing the separation and the sharp exposed area.

The product, in the report: Owala 32 OZ Water bottle.

I purchased an Owala water bottle, I used it for about a month and it started to have a smell, I went to wash it the whole bottle spout was full of mold, just looking at it made me sick to my stomach. I did try to wash the bottle as instructed but the mold is still there. I contacted Owala they told me its normal for the bottle to have mold. I’ve never experienced anything like it with other water bottle. Owala won’t replace it or refund me, despite their website says they take pride in their products and offer lifetime warranty, but im not so worried about getting my refund but I am worried that the mold made me sick.

The product, in the report: On Aug 1st of 2025, my toddler was drinking from the Owala Kids Insulation Stainless Steel Tumbler with Spill Resistant Flexible Straw (12 oz) when I noticed he was spitting up his drink. Upon inspection, I found that parts of the built-in straw inside had partially disintegrated. I believe some pieces may have been swallowed by my child. I am submitting this report in the interest of consumer safety and to request that this product be investigated for material failure or design flaws.

The product, in the report: Owala freesip water bottle 40oz

I was using a water bottle made by the company Owala and widely distributed through sporting goods companies, as well as Whole Foods. I have reported this to them although I dont think that they report has been taken seriously but the water bottle has a button on the front and when it dislodges its straightforward and multiple times the button and the spring has spring forward forward and hit me in the face or the eye. it is very unsafe. I can only imagine it could injure someone Ive only had the water bottle three months so I dont think that it has had excessive wear and tear and this is a product defect that could be widespread.
