The product, in the report: Sunbeam Electric vinyl King-size heating pad, I already threw the packaging box away
Two models of Sunbeam electric vinyl heating pads purchased new at Walmart in Brewton, Alabama this month. Within a day of using both models (Model 834 - King size, Model 819 - Standard size), they both caused the power to go off in each room we tried it in/ tripping the break for both rooms we tried to use them in- then, the next time turned on, they developed extremely hot hot-spots about the size of the tip of the index finger, causing my husband to jump up before getting burned/no injuries found fortunately and then suddenly the breakers tripped again. My husband was sitting next to me on the sofa in the living room and next to me laying down in bed in our bedroom. We only had one heating pad plugged in at one time, laying it flat between his back and the sofa and bed. We immediately unplugged it and began researching recalls. An Ai bot said both models had been recalled, but we can not find any recall site showing these model numbers. We feel these need to be part of a recall, if they are not already. Please advise us on what to do next. Do these specific heating pads need to be mailed into your testing facility for examinations? Thank you!!

The product, in the report: SUPPLEMENTAL UPDATE to CPSC Report #[REDACTED] Sunbeam electric heating pad rectangular soft-fabric pad with internal heating wires and a detachable white plastic power cord and control switch. The fabric covering is light blue, with wiring stitched inside the pad. The control has multiple heat settings and a light indicator.
SUPPLEMENTAL UPDATE to CPSC Report #[REDACTED] This report is a follow-up to my original CPSC submission #[REDACTED] regarding the same Sunbeam heating pad incident. I was using the Sunbeam heating pad as directed when a sudden burst of sparks and a small flame appeared at the cord-to-pad connection. The incident jolted me awake and could have easily started a fire if I hadnt reacted immediately. My small dog, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was lying beside me only inches from the sparks. Because his eyes are large and prominent, he could have been seriously injured if I hadnt moved quickly. I unplugged the pad instantly, which prevented my duvet and bedding from catching fire. The surge tripped the circuit breaker, and the lights in my bedroom went out immediately. The cord and connector were visibly burned. The event caused redness to my skin, distress, and lasting anxiety about using electrical products such as heating pads. After reporting the incident to the manufacturer, I was contacted by their legal counsel and executive resolution team, who have so far only offered a refund or replacement. They have also asked that I return the product, but I do not feel comfortable sending it back without clear chain-of-custody assurances or a written commitment to provide the engineering findings. This response fails to acknowledge the seriousness of what occurred the ignition, the fire risk, the circuit overload, and the emotional and safety impact of the event. I am seeking a formal investigation and accountability for a potentially dangerous defect.

The product, in the report: Sunbeam Restful Quilted Water Resistant Heated Mattress Pad Queen size. Model #32810029 White in color. Finished size 60 x 80. Date code of July 2022 on label. Purchased on Amazon from The Sunbeam Store.
Sunbeam Heated Mattress Pad overheated and caused damage to the Sunbeam pad, mattress protector, and [REDACTED] mattress. Pad was placed on heat setting 8 to prewarm bed for 2 hours. Wife and I got In bed approximately 1 hour after pad was turned on and I immediately had to jump out of bed because something was burning my back. There was a red area on my back about 2 inches across. We also smelled something burning like an electrical smell. We unplugged Sunbeam Mattress Pad and went to bed. The next morning we removed the fitted sheet and noticed a burned area on the Sunbeam Heated Mattress Pad. We removed the mattress pad and the burn had went through the mattress protector and burned/discolored the mattress itself. This could have been a terrible situation with severe injury, death or a fire.

The product, in the report: 12x24 heating pad for sore muscles, etc. Green plush cover. Auto off feature. 4 temperatures. Made by Sunbeam
I have bought 2 of this product, as I like the large size and comfortable padding for my aching legs as I await surgery. Both were defective. The mfr. sent me two free ones, and the first one I just tried is also defective and DANGEROUS. Turned on the lowest heat setting, it still gets hot enough to burn you within 5 minutes or less. On one unit, the controller got so hot I could barely unplug it.

The product, in the report: Slumber Rest Luxury Collection Premium Quilted Heated Mattress Pad, full size (54” S 75” ), white, fits mattress up to 2 1” deep, machine washable and dryer safe, 5 year limited warranty, from Sunbeam.
This report is in regards to Sunbeam’s Slumber Rest Luxury Collection Premium Quilted Heated Mattress ordered purchased new on 12/6/2017. On approximately 12/20/2017 I attempted to use a low setting for sleep. Prior to this I had only used it to preheat my bed, turning it off before getting into bed. When I settled in bed, I felt an add sensation on my right thigh...a very painful tingling sensation. My first thought was that I needed simply to move, that I must be positioned awkwardly. I shifted position and felt the same painful shock, which is what I realized was occurring. I immediately turned it off and unplugged the mattress pad. For several days after these shocks my leg was very weak and painful when walking. I was shocked twice by this defective product, and this company has been less than helpful resolving the issue. In fact, I have been lied to numerous times by three of their representatives. I would like my money back, but believe they would be more resistant to that request than a replacement.

The product, in the report: Sunbeam Auto-Off 50 watt electric heating pad. Approximately 8.5” by 14.5” Has E12107-828 and 44606-233 printed on it but I don’t know what these numbers refer to.
While using a Sunbeam electric heating pad on my lower back, I felt a sharp pain. I pulled the pad out (from between the chair and my back) and saw a bright glowing light and smoke. I unplugged the pad and put it in my shower IN CASE it burst into flames. It did not continue burning and I did not put water on it.
I have pictures but was unable to attach them.

The product, in the report: Sunbeam Health King-Size Programmable Heating Pad, model number CAT92
We have a Sunbeam heating pad that I was using normally, on my back as I was sitting on our sofa. The heating pad malfunctioned, burning a 1/2-inch hole through the cloth cover of the heating pad on the side of the pad that was not next to my body, near the end of the pad where the power cord enters. The heating pad also burned a similar hole through a throw pillow that was next to the pad.

Hurt, care not known Made Dec 31, 2012, sent to the company Mar 7, 2013, published by CPSC Mar 28, 2013
The product, in the report: Electric Heating Pad manufactured by the Sunbeam Corporation.
Dear Sirs, [REDACTED], Public Information Assistant, Office of the Attorney General of Texas, suggested I contact your office concerning a matter that I have been trying to resolve since April of this year regarding a heating pad manufactured by the Sunbeam Corporation. In April I used their heating pad to relieve an ache in my neck. Though there was some discomfort it was not until the next morning that the pain began to worsen from a burn the size of a nickel was burned into my back. After reading the description of varying degrees of burns on WebMD, my injury closely described of a third degree burn. After mailing a letter to Sunbeam I received a phone call from [REDACTED], Senior Consumer Care Specialist with Jarden Consumer Solutions. She asked several questions regarding the incident and explained that I would be mailed a replacement heating pad as well as instructions on completing an accident form. At this time I requested written evaluation concerning the defective product and what steps Sunbeam would take to ensure serious burns from happening to others. [REDACTED] Agreed, saying this would not be a problem once the product failure was determined and the department released the information. On April 26th, I received a letter from Jarden Consumer Solutions stating the procedures for filing a claim. I immediately followed through with the requested information, even sending two pictures of my injury rather than the request for one. After what I believed to be a reasonable amount of time for the company to contact and address my concerns, but was not contacted. On June 26th, I again wrote a letter to [REDACTED], CEO of consumer Affairs with a copy also sent to [REDACTED], with Consumer Affairs, requesting information concerning my claim. On July 11, a message was left on my answering machine from [REDACTED]., stating they had received another letter from me and would I return her call, which I did at 2:55p.m. that same day. I had to leave a message on her voice mailbox, which went unreturned. With no other correspondence, on July 20th I called [REDACTED] Again and asked what information she had received from the department that was investigating the heating pad I had sent. She state she had not contacted that department yet, but would ind out and call me. On August 11th, at 8:32 a.m., I called [REDACTED]., concerning the progress of my claim. A representative named, [REDACTED], answered the number and told me that there was no “claims department” that I could speak with and that, “their lawyers only speak with other lawyers.” I asked who else I could contact concerning this matter and in so many words said that I should just stop calling. I contacted a lawyer who told me that attorneys rarely take cases involving Sunbeam because they keep them tied up for great lengths of time and have many cases already on the court docket. That the time and expense of dealing with Sunbeam most lawyers felt it was not worth pursuing. He also suggested that I not try small claims court as Sunbeam could and would most likely bankrupt me in legal requests, such as paying for specialist to be called to testifY. It is difficult for me to believe that large companies can cause severe injury and scars to consumers and because of their unlimited financial means can disregard any responsibilities for their products. It is my hope that your commission will investigate Sunbeam and Jarden corporations and their practices when consumers are injured by their products. Sincerely, [REDACTED]

I had turned on my heating pad and tossed it down on the bed. Sparks started flying and the cord was broken in half. Not sure if the cord broke which caused the sparks or if the sparks is what broke the cord. It caused a really bad smell. It broke where the controller was attached to the cord.
