The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Oct 4, 2025, sent to the company Nov 6, 2025, published by CPSC Nov 26, 2025

The product, in the report: White gas dryer

    Product & Purchase Information:

Manufacturer: Alliance Laundry Systems (Speed Queen)

    Model Number: ADG6HRYS117TW01

    Serial Number: 2103046471

    Purchase Date: June 22, 2021

    Purchase Price: $1,050.00

Incident Date: September 10, 2025 (Unit is 4 years old, under 5-year warranty)

Detailed Incident & Safety Defect: My 4-year-old gas dryer caught fire during a normal cycle, rendering it unusable. Attached photos confirm the fire originated internally in the sealed mechanical housing, not externally. Crucially, the fire was caused by an approximately one-inch-thick accumulation of lint in this inaccessible compartment, centered around internal wiring and electrical components. This lint accumulation constitutes a fundamental design defect and a severe fire hazard, as the machine failed to prevent highly flammable material from reaching the ignition source.

Manufacturer’s Denial & Unreasonable Burden: Speed Queen repeatedly denied the claim, citing “lack of required maintenance” and a User Manual recommendation for specialized cleaning every 1-2 years. I reject this defense. Requiring a homeowner to purchase complex, professional disassembly every 1-2 years to prevent a fire is an unacceptable burden for safety and proves the machine is inherently unsafe under normal operating conditions. The resulting electrical component failure and fire demonstrate the warranty-covered defect.

Product Safety Concern and Requested Resolution: This incident indicates a serious safety defect with this dryer model. The product’s design allows flammable lint to accumulate in a dangerous area, creating a fire risk that cannot be mitigated by routine user maintenance.

Due to the length of this dispute, I was forced to purchase a new appliance to restore function to my home. Therefore, I no longer seek a replacement unit. I urge the CPSC to investigate this safety hazard. I demand a full refund of the original purchase price of $1,050.00.
