Product Safety Incident Samsung Gas Dryer Fire I am reporting a serious fire safety incident involving my Samsung gas dryer, model DVG54CG7150WA3, purchased new in May 2024. After noticing a burning smell, I discontinued using the appliance and contacted [REDACTED] for an inspection. On October 14, 2026, a [REDACTED] technician inspected the dryer, confirmed evidence of a fire inside the appliance, and documented the finding on an official safety notice stating Dryer Fire, Needs New. The technician advised that the dryer should not be repaired or operated following the discovery of an internal fire and recommended replacing the appliance. The cause of the fire has not been determined. I reported the incident to Samsung, which escalated my existing case to its Fire Safety Department. Samsung advised that a representative would contact me within two business days. I am requesting that the CPSC document and review this incident to determine whether it represents a broader product safety concern. I have retained the appliance and [REDACTED] written safety notice and can provide supporting documentation upon request. All four members of our household, including our two minor children, were at home when the incident occurred. Fortunately, no one was injured. However, the fire inside the dryer presented a serious potential safety hazard to our entire family and home.

The product, in the report: Samsung dryer White Gas dryer
I am writing this to warn anyone considering a Samsung dryer. Our unit caught fire during a normal cycle, creating a terrifying safety situation in our home. What is even worse than the product failing is Samsungs response. They have refused to offer a replacement, a refund, or even a proper investigation into why their appliance caught fire. They said we could pay to have someone come out and look at it but it was not covered under the recall even though the recall was describing exactly what happened and why we think it caught fire. They are completely ignoring the issue and leaving us out of pocket for a dangerous appliance. A company this large should stand behind their safety protocols, but they prefer to ignore the problem.

The product, in the report: Samsung Gas Dryer Color: black MODEL: DVG45T6000V/A3 SER. NO: 0B6P5BBW501229A
On January 25, 2026 my Samsung dryer began emitting a strong burning smell during normal operation. Upon inspection, I observed signs of internal burning damage inside the drum area. There was no excessive lint buildup, and the lint trap and venting system are cleaned and maintained regularly.
A Samsung technician inspected the unit on February 2, 2026 and confirmed that the dryer had caught fire internally. The dryer was not used between the time we smelled the fire initially, and it was inspected by the Samsung technician. This appliance is less than three years old.
This incident presented a serious fire hazard and risk to my home and family. A dryer should not experience internal fire under normal, properly maintained use.
The technician made a point to tell me how serious of a safety issue this was and that the dryers safety mechanisms to shut it off, did not work.
Upon contacting Samsung customer service, we were notified that the fire must have come from a ducting issue. Our dryer was professionally installed. We have verified proof that there was never a blockage or ducting issue.
Samsung has refused to provide a replacement or refund and instead attributed the issue to installation, despite the confirmed internal fire hazard.
I am filing this report so the CPSC can investigate this potential safety defect. An internal fire in a three-year-old dryer that has been properly maintained presents a serious consumer safety concern. I am requesting that this product be reviewed for potential defect and that corrective action be considered to protect other consumers.

The product, in the report: 7.2 cu. ft. Gas Dryer with Sensor Dry and 8 Drying Cycles
My Samsung Dryer (DVG41A3000W/A3) that we’ve only had for 5/6 months started smelling like smoke while drying. It happened while my wife was at home and she unplugged it. When she opened up the dryer she was met with smoke coming out of the drum, however there was no fire. I went home to check everything, and cleared out the residue lint in the system. Even after doing so the system still started smoking. It didn’t smell like a natural smoke it was more electrical. Lint trap was cleared after every use, I disconnected the exhaust as well to make sure there wasn’t a buildup of lint and there wasn’t.

My dryer that is running does not appear to be connected to the control board, but is still running and the front controls appear to be independent of the Tumblr so when its plugged in when you press the button or close the door, the Tumblr portion of the dryer runs, but youre unable to control it from the main board you can power on and off the main board. It doesnt seem to be connected so there seems to be an unsafe condition. I could see a kid accidentally getting into this and turning on so there doesnt appear to be a safety walk that prevents the dryer from running when youre unable to control the front main control board.

Please see below timeline - our Costco/Samsung dryer that was delivered on May 2nd, 2025 caught on fire by mid September of 2025. Less than 5 months of use, and the entire inside of the dryer is scorched. Samsung is refusing to replace the burned unit, insisting they should only repair a part. 9/19/25: Initial Contact: Call to Costco about the dryer issue. Burning smell coming from the dryer. 5/2/25: Original Delivery Date: Original delivery date of the dryer (indicating it is approximately 4 months old).
[REDACTED] 9/19/25: Samsung Appointment Scheduled: - Scheduled an appointment with Samsung for 9/24/2025. 9/24/25: First Technician Visit: o Tech came out, opened the back of the dryer, and he said that it was a lint issue. I asked for clarification as we clear the lint trap after every use and the dryer was delivered on May 2nd (less than 4 months old). There was a small coating of lint over the electrical parts of the unit and gas entry point. There was little to no lint on the other side of the dryer (picture attached). o I asked if there is any way we could clean that for maintenance without taking apart the entire dryer within 4 months. We have had dryers in the past similarly for 8+ years with no issues. This machine is defective and I reiterated our safety concerns in repairing a burned unit. It is extremely concerning if these dryers naturally can catch on fire within 4 months of use without ripping it apart to vacuum the inside. This is a huge fire hazard and concerning with a brand new machine. There may also be a gap in the layout of this machine that is allowing hair to collect in the bottom within such a short period of time. o The tech also claimed that because our dryer is on the second floor of the house, that there is not great circulation for air. Our house is fully up to code, built in 2014, and we perform our HVAC maintenance on time every year. Our HVAC came out within the last 3 months to service our vents with no issues. 9/24/25 - 9/30/25: No Word from Samsung following the technician’s comment below of CX does not want to proceed with repair due to safety hazard. 9/30/25: Emailed Costco for assistance and received a response. 10/3/25: Samsung Support Call: Received a call from Samsung Support (talked to “[REDACTED]” who was at work). 10/5/25: Escalation with Samsung and Second Opinion: o The issue was escalated to a Supervisor at Samsung. o The Supervisor claimed they cannot replace the unit without a second opinion. o Agreed to allow a second technician to come out because they refused repair on the first techs assessment. o They also said we may be charged for the 2nd visit or repair. We said we will not be paying for another tech to come out when the first tech should have correctly escalated the safety concern. 10/9/25: Second Technician Visit (Same Tech): o The SAME technician came out. o Began trying to repair the machine even though the consumer had requested a replacement/refund and refused the repair.
As of 10/29/25 - we are still being told that Samsung closed the service request since they were refused by us to repair the burned and scorched unit.

My wife was using our Samsung dryer, DVG54R7600, and noticed a burning odor. We turned off the dryer but couldn’t determine where the odor was coming from. We removed the front panel and discovered there had been a lint buildup underneath the drum and had caught fire from the igniter. Fortunately the fire extinguished itself before spreading.

The product, in the report: Sansung gas dryer
I own a Samsung gas dryer, model #DV52J8700GP/A2. On 30 May 2021, the appliance began to make a squealing noise. Upon hearing the noise I immediately turned the dryer off and called an appliance repair company to diagnose/repair. When the technician arrived and disassembled the dryer, he found a plastic pulley when that showed evidence of melting around the shaft hole. I am confident that this defect could have started a fire if I had not shut off the dryer when I did.

The product, in the report: Front loading gas dryer. Appears to have a stainless steel drum.
We use our Samsung gas dryer to dry our clothing and bedding. We heard a thumping noise and found the weld on the drum had broken and was flexing each time the dryer rotated over the wheels in the lower part of the drum. I contacted Samsung who stated the dryer had a one year warranty. I researched the issue on the internet and found that dozens of people had experienced this same failure and got no help from the manufacturer. The safety issue is that the lint is permitted to escape through the weld opening and into the dryer housing creating a fire hazard. The following is a link showing how one person disassembled the dryer to repair and shows the lint collecting in the housing: .[REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Samsung Front loading Gas Dryer DVG45R6100AW. DV42H500GE
Samsung Gas Dryer product defect. Gas line installation. Samsung defect on gas line connection. Samsung manufacturing didn’t cut threads deep enough for a solid gas line connection. The connection can break. Gas explosion possible. Store models on display have the same quality problem.
Photo available upon request.
Email to Samsung;
The gas line on the Samsung dryer is a 3/8 thread. The problem as you can see in this picture is Samsung didn’t cut the thread deep enough. Pipe threads are tapered. Without a deeper cut the gas line adapter for the flexible line will only screw on about two threads which is not enough for natural gas safety!

The product, in the report: Samsung Natural Gas Dryer
Purchased a Samsung natural gas dryer that was not installed correctly and we didn’t realize it for about 6 weeks when we received a “Restriction” message and the clothes were taking over an hour to dry. The dryer flex hose was kinked. We purchased the installation with the new washer and dryer. The dryer is now filled with lint, no doubt the exit vent line on the house that was cleaned prior to installation also. Samsung authorized dealer, Hahns Appliance of Tulsa will not replace the dryer and would not allow the first 2 techs to open up the dryer nor pull it out from the wall. The 3rd tech that never came was not allowed to do it either per the scope. Samsung said not to use the dryer and agrees it could be unsafe. We agree. This is a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Samsung Gas Dryer
Our Samsung Dryer, Model DV448AEG 02555A 10, started on fire inside our home on November 13th, 2016. It is a gas unit, that was purchased in December of 2010.
The fire initiated near the gas flame trench, apparently by igniting residual LINT that had accumulated INSIDE of the metallic case, which had settled on the bottom. Over the period of use, the lint appears to have accumulated to approximately one fourth to three eighth of an inch in depth. The fire subsequently propagated forward to the gas valve assembly, wiring harness assemblies, and then laterally over to a plastic duct which burned a large hole through all the way through it. Thankfully, the fire subsequently self extinguished, apparently due to oxygen starvation. I am amazed that it did not propagate further, as there were some dry clothes near the base of the unit that could have easily caught fire. The unit was installed into a corner, right next to the baseboards, and easily could have burned our entire house to the ground.
Subsequent to discovering the fire, I inspected the ENTIRE vent pathway, and verified that there wasnt any blockage that contributed to the fire. Up until that point, the dryer had been working perfectly. The venting duct was installed with hard points for all corners, and was sealed with aluminum tape and large hose clamps to preclude any air leaks. Further, I have religiously completed semiannual maintenance on the dryer vent by checking both the ducting at the back of the dryer, and the exit of the vent at the roof line. Surprisingly, the dryer caught on fire ALL BY ITSELF, without any issue with the venting. Thankfully, the normally closed valve assembly did shut off the flow of gas to the burner.
I immediately contacted Samsung corporation to discuss the incident. Even though it was out of warranty, they initially told me to hold onto the dryer so they could send someone out to investigate the fire. Apparently, they wanted to make sure they didnt have a design or manufacturing flaw. So, I kept it in my garage for 6 weeks trying to coordinate their appointment to have a technician come and look at it. After dealing with at least 4 to 5 separate phone calls, all attempting to coordinate an inspection, I received a call from someone in their Executive Customer Service. They asked me what I wanted, and I explained to them that I honestly didnt expect any money, but as an engineer and trained failure analyst, I expected that they would at least want to come and inspect the unit to investigate root cause. They eventually refused that request, and told me that they didnt even care to receive pictures of the fire to review internally. The dryer was out of warranty. Case CLOSED.
I was absolutely SHOCKED and appalled, and told them I honestly couldnt believe they wouldnt follow up. I told them I would file a report with the consumer product safety commission, and I would also contact the Better Business Bureau.
As an engineer, I would want every bit of data I could retrieve from relevant failures to resolve any future hazards associated with design and or manufacturing flaws. This dryer started on fire as a result of lint build up INSIDE of the case. We clean our lint filter RELIGIOUSLY, with EVERY SINGLE load of laundry. The lint duct in my home was performing adequately. There isnt any instruction in their manual informing owners that they need to periodically take their dryers apart to vacuum out any residual lint INSIDE the case. This is a design and or service FLAW, that is not being acknowledged by Samsung or other dyer manufacturers. I believe Samsung is negligent in both this design flaw, in their lack of instruction regarding this specific and necessary maintenance to reduce the hazard, and in how they have handled my specific case. We were incredibly LUCKY THAT SAMSUNG DIDNT BURN OUR HOUSE TO THE GROUND.
I have photographs of the evidence should you like to see them. Further, please contact me with any follow up questions via email at [REDACTED]. Or, please contact me by telephone at [REDACTED].
Thanks for your time.
[REDACTED] [REDACTED]
BTW, I have been formally trained in the art of failure analysis, and perform such root cause investigations as a part of my professional job at [REDACTED]. On occasion, I have personally supported failure investigations requested of [REDACTED] by the [REDACTED] office of the [REDACTED]. I still cant believe that Samsung handled this issue in such a pathetic fashion.

The product, in the report: Samsung Gas Dryer 7.4 cu. ft. Gas Dryer with Steam in White Model Number: DV50K8600GW/A3
I purchased Samsung Gas Dryer Model Number: DV50K8600GW/A3 June 2016, by the end of October we were seeing reduced performance, taking longer to dry, sometimes requiring multiple cycles for dry clothes.
This dryer has a defective design of the lint trap will lead to exhaust blockage, wet clothes, and water in the exhaust. The lint trap has a flap that we have seen consistently not functioning. I have found that the lint trap is defective by design and will drop lint into the bottom of the unit. This will lead to an Exhaust blockage outside of the dryer, which will then start to collect water in the exhaust pipes. My house was as new as this dryer. Now I need to re-drywall the ceiling where it fell through due to the moisture collection.
I took apart the Dryer in order to check the unit for faults. I found that the Dryer had become an imminent fire hazard; Lint in the combustion chamber where the Gas fires, Lint all over the front of the machine. The imminent fire hazard occurs because the majority of customers are re-running cycles. I found other customers running this unit multiple times just like I did. If I had not taken the unit apart to clean, it would have started a fire, as I am using Gas.

The product, in the report: Samsung Gas Front Loader Dryer, White
About 3 years ago, I purchased a Samsung dryer, model # DV350AGW/XAA. Recently, it began making a noise. After clothing got snagged, I discovered that the aluminium dryer drum had come apart at the welding and had a large crack. After some internet research, I found that this is most certainly not an issue related to normal use or ordinary wear and tear, but rather a defect/flaw, as many Samsung customers have complained of similar issues across different dryer models. Samsung has refused to repair my dryer without me incurring either the expense of the labor or the parts.
After several calls to Samsung representatives, each of them made it clear, that customer satisfaction is not important to them, since product is out of warranty. A recall definitely is needed to be done for this product, since it is clearly defective.

The product, in the report: Samsung gas dryer DV520AGP/XAA, Serial number Y09254BZ800563H
We purchased a Samsung model DV520AGP/XAA Gas Dryer in 2012. We had to store it until 12/30/2015. Upon installation and first use on 12/30/2015 the dryer caught fire due to an internal gas leak at the entry connection to the gas valve internal to the dryer chassis. The fire continued to burn after the dryer was shut off until we found the smoking unit in our garage and shut the gas and electricity off immediately. Thankfully we found it only 10-15 minute after the cycle had stopped and damage was limited to severe damage in the the interior of the dryer chassis, wiring and plastic parts. Samsung is taking no responsibility for the occurrence.

The product, in the report: Gas clothes dryer
Would like to report a problem with a gas clothes dryer, set on sensor cycle to dry clothes and it would shut off after 2-3 minutes. Detected a faint smell of something burning, called repair service and repairman removed front panel on dryer and determined combustion (fire) had taken place in a sealed area of the unit, wires where melted along with a harness. We are still going back and forth with Sansung as dryer is only 2years 8 mos old.. We would like one of your field reps to look at it if possible. We have since replaced the dryer with a different brand. The old dryer is in the garage for inspection...if you are not concerned we will dispose of the old dryer in the junk yard. Please advise as we feel this is a product defect and a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: White Samsung, front loading, 22,000BTU gas dryer.
We recently had to call the fire department a second time for a dryer malfunction with our Samsung dryer. The first call was about a year ago when the dryer did not shut off the gas flow in between heating cycles, thus filling our basement with natural gas. A Samsung appointed technician came to service the dryer and nearly replaced all of the internal componentry because his testing indicated a few parts were not functioning properly.
The most recent call to the fire department was on 1/15/13 when a strong burning smell and a light smoke condition was coming from the laundry room. We have a Service Notification from the Ramsey NJ Fire Department that the dryer should not be used until it is looked at by a qualified technician. The burning smell took a few days to dissipate from the basement and kitchen, indicating a significant “overheating” condition inside the dryer.
This is now twice that this particular dryer threatened to cause loss of property and / or life. Fortunately we were home both times to notice the conditions before they got out of hand.
I reported the latest issue to Samsung Customer Support the next day and although they indicate that they have escalated my issue to their claims department, I have yet to hear from them.
I have gone ahead and purchased another dryer because with a family of four I can’t wait any longer to be able to wash and dry clothes in my home.
This dryer clearly does not have the proper functioning mechanisms in place to prevent it from becoming a threat to property and life so I have decided to report it to you.

The product, in the report: Samsung Steam Dryer (Gas dryer)
On May 1, 2012 my Samsung Gas Dryer caught on fire. (The model is DV448AGW/XAA and it was purchased on July 18, 2009.) The fire was caused due to the igniter breaking off of the causing the flames to build around the gas line. I caught the fire in time to keep it within the dryer. When I contacted Samsung about this, they immediately directed me to their Product Liability team even though the dryer is technically out of warrantee. I have had both my personal repairman and the repairman sent by Samsung claim that even if the dryer is fixed, it is unsafe to use. Both repairman said that we were lucky the dryer did not explode in our home. Neither have seen this happen before but I am concerned this could happen in other Samsung dryers. Today is May 15th and I am still fighting with Samsung to address this problem. After 14 days, they now refuse to acknowledge that the root of the problem was the igniter breaking off in the unit. (I have photos and proof of these). They claim the problem was due to lint blockage. I clean the internal lint catcher in my dryer after every load and we vacuum out the hose leading the the dryer at least every 6-8 weeks. I also had a vent specialist come into my home who also told me my vents were clean. Samsung has a very dangerous product out there and if someone doesn’t address them about it, someone will get hurt. I have tried. I am just one consumer and they hope to brush me under a rug. Please help so someone doesn’t get hurt!
