The product, in the report: LG 7.3 cu ft Gas Dryer Model DLG7401WE
Gas Dryer LG DLG7401WE caught fire. We immediately turned off and disconnected the unit from power when it began to smell of burnt lint. When the unit was opened the following day it was discovered that the entire bottom of the unit where all the componentry resides was covered in lint with the majority of it being charred from the incident. The unit was only 26 months old at the time of the incident and the lint trap was regularly cleaned after each load for our home use. It’s clear from this result that the lint trap or another area of the dryer is ineffective in capturing all the lint resulting in the massive amount surrounding the components thus causing the fire. Luckily there were no injuries or property damage which could have been a reality had we not smelled the burning within moments of starting the unit.

The product, in the report: LG gas dryer
I bought a LG gas dryer Model# DLG3401w in September 2024. The dryer wasnt getting hot. I started smelling gas inside the dryer drum. I did not get an error code on the dryer. I called LG they had me to a diagnostic test on the dryer and then a code came up saying gas. They told me to call my gas company. I did and the gas company came out checked for leaks and gas pressure all were fine. They told me it was a manufacturing issue. I called lg and they told me they didnt have enough technicians I would have to wait 2 weeks. I went looking online for other people this has happened to and there are numerous people. Im upset that this is a safety issue, which LG is aware of, and they have not recalled it.

We bought an LG dryer, dlgx8101v, in September 2020. Yesterday the dryer started smelling like burning popcorn. We opened the front of the dryer and it was full of burnt lint, including in the gas manifold where the fire goes. There was no excess lint in the exhaust vent pipe. This machine almost went up in flames and would have burnt down our house. There must be a defect to allow the lint into the dryer like that.

The product, in the report: Gas heated clothes dryer
When emptying the dryer, I got an electrical chock when I touched the inside of the drum while my elbow was in contact with the rim of the opening. Using a multimeter I found that the drum is carrying full mains and after unplugging the dryer, that it is is connected to the hot lead of the plug. This can of course lead to a lethal electrical chock. The outer shell of the dryer is properly grounded. The dryer was previously under recall, as reported under [REDACTED] and was later serviced by LG. No other service has been performed on the dryer.
UPDATED ON 7/17/2024: [LG sent out a service technician on July 10th to see if they could make repairs to the dryer and I’m assuming that they also wanted to collect additional information regarding the cause of the problem. I took a photo of the cause while the tech had the dryer opened, a photo of the same problem was also sent by the service tech to his supervisor at LG who also told him that they wouldn’t repair the dryer as the damaged wiring harness no longer is available.
The attached photo shows the wiring harness that the previous LG tech forgot to clip in place, and which since has been rubbing against the outside of the drum until it wore through the insulation. Because the drum in this design is insulated and not grounded in any way, it ended up carrying the full 120V mains even with the dryer turned off. This is of course both a potentially lethal electrical hazard for anyone coming in contact with the drum and also a potential fire hazard if a buckle or other conductive object makes contact between the drum and the back or front which actually is grounded.
As of today (July 16) we have yet to hear back from LG regarding any additional actions from their side. We have been told multiple times that their “Presidential Liaison” will reach out, but they keep postponing any action from their side.]

The product, in the report: LG Gas Dryer Model #DLG1502W
Purchased an LG Gas Dryer (Model # DLG1602W, S/N 702KWRE3E382) as part of a wash / dryer combo several years ago. Recently, the dryer stopped drying clothes. The drum would spin but the burner would not ignite. Prior to opening up the dryer, I ordered replacements for the thermostat, high limit thermostat and thermistor assembly. When I opened the front of the dryer in order to remove the drum and install the replacement parts, I discovered a coating of ash around the burner and other areas that would normally be inaccessible. Apparently there had been a build up of lint that had caught fire and left wiring harnesses and wire insulattion melted. The fire was contained to the inside of the dryer.

The product, in the report: LG Gas Dryer, gray
I bought an LG washer and dryer set in 2019 and a few years later, I began to experience issues with the gas dryer. My family and I started to smell trace amounts of natural gas when opening the dryer. In May of 2022, I paid for an appliance repair technician to come out and take a look at the dryer. He checked it and referred me to LG’s customer service, saying the only issue that he saw was regarding parts within the machine that were causing the gas to not completely burn as the dryer was in its cycle. In May of 2022, I reached out to LG and, after multiple phone calls, they sent out a technician on May 27, 2022. The technician tested gas pipes and the dryer unit and came to the conclusion that a part within the unit was defective. He replaced it and in the coming days, the gas smell had dissipated. My family and I smelled more gas a month later and scheduled another appointment with LG. The appointment was cancelled, as the technician sent this time said that I needed only to clean the unit, which I regularly do, including the exhaust ducting from any lint or blockage. Over the next year, the gas smell continuously returned and my family and I began drying our clothes without the heating option. In April 2023, I contracted out an appliance repair tech and he suggested that the dryer was faulty and that we purchase new dryer. On June 12, 2023, I scheduled a local plumber to come out and survey our gas lines in the house and he came to the conclusion that the only gas leak was coming from the exhaust vent from the dryer and the dryer was defective in some way, as the amount of gas released by the dryer was unacceptable. I called LG with this issue and noted that it has been ongoing and multiple outside technicians consider the machine to be faulty. They promised a call back and I AM currently waiting for that call from LG.

The product, in the report: LG Gas Dryer Model lg-DLG3401@
I purchased a new LG dryer from my local hardware store. From the day I got the unit home and installed it did not heat. The unit is a Gas Dryer by LG Model #lg-DLG3401W and Serial #301KWDJPF234. I purchase the 3 year warranty from LG as well. During my initial call to LG they ran though some checks and say there may be something wrong with my gas line as the code on the dryer indicated that issue. Keep in mind I had just replaced an older gas dryer which work fine with that gas line. It cost me $399 for the service company to check out the gas line which was fine and the line pressure. After sending LG this information they dispatched a technician. They told the technician to replace parts in a brand new dryer. It took a few days for all the parts to arrive to the technician’s company and when they did arrive he returned the next day. The technician replaced the parts and started the dryer to see if it was working. I was in the next room, my office and I heard a loud bang and got up to see what happened. The new part exploded in the dryer and if gas was flowing could have seriously injured him and my family. The technician called everything into LG and that engineer agreed that the dryer should be replaced. He local repair person even noted that the Unit Exploded. To this time LG is “processing” the RA. This is dangerous issues and I would think they would want to know what such a serious malfunction occurred right away. I find their responses to be unacceptable and unsafe.

The product, in the report: The dryer is white, kinda standard dimensions
We purchased a new LG dryer on Feb 12 23, model number DLGX7881WE, that on second use melted a synthetic garment and left scorch marks on the hot air inlet. From my understanding, the hot air inlet should not exceed 175 degrees F, but to melt this polyamide fabric, the temperature must have exceeded 430 degrees F. This temperature is close to causing a fire and certainly there was a burning odor inside the dryer.

The product, in the report: Gas Dryer
Caller stated that the gas dryer was first used on 6/26/21. He stated that on May 12th his spouse noticed smoke emanating from the unit. When they open the unit there was soot on the dryer vent , the unit was extremely hot to the touch.
(5/12)Caller stated that the contacted the manufacturer and they sent out a service technician case#[REDACTED]), he stated that there was a report and observation made for the incident. He stated that the technician used a device that there was no lint or anything that could have account to the incident. Caller is concerned that the manufacturer advised to send a technician for repair but he does not feel that this is acceptable due to the fire incident and should be replaced. The manufacturer stated that he refused the option given and will not assist him anymore.
Caller feels that this dryer poses a fire hazard and should be recalled.
Report update 5/27/22:
This dryer caught fire 10.5 months after we bought it new from an authorized dealer. There was extensive smoke damage and, obviously, our home and the safety of my family (wife, two daughters and a dog) were imperiled. Luckily, in the end, only the dryer was dryer was ruined. Who knows what chemicals we were exposed to from the smoke?! The WORST part of it all was how LG ducked and weaved and finally turned their backs on us completely. The only thing they would offer to do was repair this faulty, dangerous unit. I told them I don’t care if 10 NASA scientists came to our house, fully disassembled and put the unit back together again, it will NEVER be used in our home EVER AGAIN. Who knows if it will catch fire again?! Who knows what chemicals are in the smoke that was created?!
LG was completely unsympathetic. They said we were refusing their help and washed their hands of us. And we were contacted by someone in the “Presidential Liaison Office” who said she was the ultimate authority. One of the most unhelpful, unfriendly customer service people I’ve ever talked to. A heart of ice. And, for the record we’re adults and we know how to use a dryer properly, clean the lint filter, etc. The technician who LG sent used a special airflow meter to confirm that the vent and duct were clean.
LG refused to help us in any kind of meaningful way when its appliance caught fire under warranty in our home, putting our safety and possessions at grave risk. It took days for them to address the issue and I spent hours begging and pleaded various customer support agents in Manilla to escalate this. Finally, someone from the highest levels of the support organization, a “Presidential Liaison” contacted me. She was unfriendly, unsympathetic and utterly unhelpful. The only thing she would offer to do was to give me 20% of the value of the unit or have it repaired.
I’m not crazy. NO ONE wants a faulty dryer that has caught fire repaired! Who knows what was burning in that unit (plastic, wiring, etc) and what dangerous chemicals were created?! Who knows whether it will catch fire again?!.The idea that we would keep this appliance in our house, given the fact that it put my entire family and home at risk, is completely ludicrous. But the Presidential Liaison was like a robot, just repeating the same thing over and over. I asked her if she was OK with me leaving our interaction furious with LG and ready to yell this story from the mountaintops (ie. social media, review sites, BBB, Consumer Affairs, UL, etc.) and she said she was fine with it. What kind of liaison is that?!
What is clear is that the culture of LG Electronics and their Customer Support division is completely unsympathetic, completely focused on the bottom line instead of the customer, perhaps even jaded and uninterested in the reputation of LG itself. It is the reflection of a sick company and a cynical corporate culture. For such a widely praised company, it was shocking and hugely disappointing. Needless to say, big companies like this need to be beholden to something more than market forces. They need to be held to safety and integrity standards by our government to ensure that they don’t take advantage of their customers.
Attached, please see a photo of the smoke damage/residue that was left in the dryer vent.

The product, in the report: LG Gas Dryer. White Front loader. DLGX2502W . 7.3cu ft. Steam Dryer. Model DLGX2502W
LG Gas Dryer main control has started malfunctioning, causing raw natural gas to be expelled into the dryer. Smell can be smelled strongly outside the home, and faintly inside the home. Upon research, the malfunction is abnormal functioning. According to manufacturer, the machine is not supposed to turn on the gas supply until the ignitor is hot. The first burn attempt each time the ignition sequence occurs results in gas (no burn) for 6-10 seconds, 5 second pause, ignitor heats/turns red, natural gas triggers and lights. This occurs throughout the entire cycle.

The Gas company inserted a device in the dryer and turned it on for a bit to run. The device started marking gas detection on it. Gas company told me to reach out to LG and have someone come out and service the dryer and to not use till it got fixed.
When I use the Dryer my clothes is EXTREMLY HOT and the Gas smell is pretty strong.
This seems to be similar issue that other LG Gas Dryers have had and the fact that my model isn’t in the recall doesn’t mean that my dryer isn’t defected as well like the other models. This is a very dangerous issue as I sometimes throw last load at night before going to sleep. If we don’t notice this and keep getting the gas it could possibly cause a fire in our house.

The product, in the report: Clothes dryer (gas)
While drying laundry we started noticing a strong gas odor coming from the dryer (LG Model DLG2051W, Serial #: 912KWUC00846) . The odor seemed to be strongest near the bottom right area of the dryer. I came across another incident report on this site (Incident report# 20151221-A5328-2147425608) which contained a virtually identical incident stated to be caused by a problem with the gas ignition valve. The other report states “The valve seems to open and not igniting during the drying process. This is a major safety hazard as gas could build up and ignite during the next heating cycle. While searching online it seems many others have the same issue with this dryer however a recall has not been issued.” I agree that it could pose a serious danger. Gas could build up inside the dryer, get ignited and explode during the next cycle or it could ignite and explode when the light is turned on in the laundry room. Either of the two cases would pose a serious hazard to both life and property. We have not yet contacted LG but will do so. Considering the response given to others owners of LG gas dryers with the same issue I do not have high hopes that they will own the problem and correct it. Please feel free to contact me for further details if necessary.

Purchased an LG Gas Dryer Model DLGX3002P S/N S/N 908KWZH00061in 2009. In March 2017 the gas valve began emitting raw, un-burned natural gas into the dryer drum. After a survey of products like this on the Internet and actual testing of the dryer I determined that the problem was most likely the control board which would prevent the igniter from lighting the gas after the first heating cycle. Once the dryer cools the first cycle of any run works normally but subsequent heating cycles emit raw, un-burned gas. Although there was a recall of similar models in 2012 (http://www.lg.com/us/public-notices/general/lg-electronicsgas-dryerpr-final-20120816) LG has so far avoided adding any further dryers to the list even though they appear to have this sever safety problem. LG only offers a $250 cost to consumer repair option for this out of warranty product. Since the release of un-burned gas into a residential structure is a safety hazard I am requesting that all models with this problem be recalled and repaired free of charge to consumers or credit be given toward a new appliance.
Reports of this problem are easy to find on the Internet. Here is a link to a video that shows the problem accurately. The model in the video is a DLG5966. [REDACTED]

I have an LG brand [REDACTED] Gas Dryer that is leaking a strong gas smell. I have had the gas company come to inspect our connection as well as any other potential gas leaks from other appliances, but it is definitely coming from the dryer. The gas smell comes out from the vent and is also VERY strong when I open the dryer door during a regular cycle. I called LG and they told me that this is a safety hazard but because the dryer was purchased more than a year ago, there is nothing that can be done unless there is actual damage created by the dryer to our home (such as a gas explosion I guess).

The product, in the report: LG DLG2702V Gas Clothes Dryer (Gray) purchased 11/2009
We have a LG DLG2702 Gas clothes dryer. (purchased 11/2009) After drying a load of bedding in our gas dryer, the dryer caught on fire. I first noticed a burning smell at the end of the cycle. Shortly after smoke came into the drum and from behind the unit. The fire department responded. They removed the dryer from the home and extinguished the small fire inside by removing the top. They confirmed that something was burning inside. It was NOT a fire caused by lint in the hose or by anything placed in the dryer. The interior drum was fine as well as the hose. We regularly remove/clean lint from the machine.
I inspected the interior of the dryer by placing a flashlight in the exhaust. There was the remains of a small booklet (something from the parts mgfr??) in a plastic bag on the gas line which started the fire. This should have never been in the inside of the dryer. It wasn’t something a consumer would have access to and is a fire hazzard.
Luckily I was home and caught it. The damage was isolated to the dryer.

While my elderly parents LG Dryer model number DLG2302R was in use the smell of gas was overwhelming. I called the Gas company to check and see if we had a gas leak, which there was none from the gas company found. We called a appliance repairman, and he said it was from the LG dryer, and we were very lucky we didn’t blow the house up. My parents purchased the dryer in 2010. We started searching online about this issue and we found page after page of consumers who have had the same problem. I even found a recall list of other LG dryers that have been recalled because the valve in the dryer leaks Gas, but to my surprise my parents model has not been recalled. We called LG, who said they would come out and fix it for a fee.

I smelled gas near the clothes dryer on October 1. I researched online, and found many videos proving this dangerous defect, for example : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpkup9bP96U . I immediately disassembled my dryer and confirmed that this was exactly what was happening in my case as well. The sheer number of others with this same problem I find very alarming. The drier drum and exhaust are filled with natural gas between heat cycles. Very disturbing. The manufcturer replied with a boiler plate letter of sympathy for my problems with my “stove”.
I attempted to contact them tonight, and the “page was not found” to submit a safety problem.

On October 5th, 2015 my wife went into the laundry room to see an orange glow coming from under out LG dryer. She also saw and smelled smoke in the room. She unplugged dryer, turned off gas and opened dryer door. The fire extinguished on it’s own when she did this.
The dryer is just over 5 years old. An inspection of the area and corresponding photos show the source of the fire from either the gas regulator or electrical components.

The product, in the report: https://youtu.be/mJqzwdBavfw I think its important to tell you that the dryer was purchased in 208, but it was never used. It is not just age or wear and tear. the product is virtually brand new. I have an LG gas dryer. the dryer does not function properly. It is a major safety hazard. In many situation the danger of this dryer may go un noticed. If functioning; when the flame on the dryer goes out or fails to ignite the gas valves on the unit should close automatically. In this case the dryer does not close the gas valves, instead it continues to pump gas into the fire tube even though there is no flame. This is not brief, it will actually continue to pump raw un-burned natural gas into the unit for however long the dryer cycle is set for. In the beginning of my statement i mentioned that this can go un-noticed. Here is how. 1) if the flame does not go out no one will ever know that the safety shut off is not functioning. 2) the dryer is generally vented to outside the house and if vented properly the gasses will simply flow out of the house almost un-detectected, that does not mean that it not present incredible danger. For instance if there was an ignition source by the dryer vent it would surely ignite. If something was to block the vent it would fill the house with deadly gas. I am sure you can use your imagination. LG has several other models with similar issues where the unit keeps pumping fuel with the fire lit after the cycle is finish I am sure if you researched it you would find the same parts exist. my dryer is an LG TROM model # is DLG7188rm S/N 701KWRE02814

I am filing this concern for two reasons:
1) LG’s unprofessional response to a consumer safety concern 2) Concern for others who may experience the same issue

A three years old LG Gas Dryer model DLG2302R, Serial Number 005KWMK01147 with strong smell of Natural Gas when operates. It began doing this in the last week. Description: Unit does dry the clothes but it is producing very strong smell of Natural Gas. After some research, I found following video in YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJqzwdBavfw ) . I decided to conduct the same “exact” test shown in the above video and I found that my unit is experiencing the same failure. After the unit completes the very first drying cycle that lasts about a minute, the control unit would unexpectedly turn the gas valve back on. It does this while igniter is off therefore, the gas never ignites again and begins leaking into chamber and vent.

The product, in the report: LG DLG1320W Gas Dryer, s/n 905KWPV00296
Gas dryer, purchased in 2010, with significant gas smell when operating as well as a couple incidents of clothes scorching inside the dryer.
Make: LG Model: DLG1320W S/N: 905KWPV00296
I called LG around 4/25 to report the issue. There was a recall in 2012 on this same dryer (http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2012/LG-Electronics-and-Sears-Recall-Gas-Dryers-For-Repair-Due-to-Fire-Hazard/) However, LG support ran the s/n and reported that my dryer was not covered and that to fixing it would be up to me to pay for. On 4/29, we had a repair man diagnose and fix the dryer, and the issue was due to a faulty gas valve not regulating/closing when it was supposed to (the same issue in the recall). The repairman left the faulty gas valve with me in case I need to send it somewhere for investigation.
I can understand that as appliances age, there will be issues that need fixing. However, since we’re dealing with Natural Gas in this case, appliances should not fail in regards to regulating gas as it could result in a catastrophic injury (or worse).

The product, in the report: Gas dryer.
I have a LG DLG5966W gas dryer and there is a gas smell coming from the dryer vent when the dryer is running. In other words, a gas smell is present when the dryer is being used as it normally would be. The gas smell is primarily located where the vent enters the basement and where it exits the house. This problem was caused by opening the gas valve with no ignition source, which is the igniter coil. With no ignition source, the gas just enters the tub drum and then exits through the vent. The problem is described in the following YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJqzwdBavfw. I contacted LG about the problem and they denied any existence of a problem and insisted I have a technician look at the dryer. I diagnosed and fixed the problem myself. The issue was caused by a faulty control board (part number: EBR36858802). I ordered a new control board from an internet supplier, which was clearly marked with revision two labels, and it fixed the issue.
This issue is quite dangerous and, as you can hopefully see, this problem is not uncommon. The danger of this issue and denial by LG about the problem prompted me to submit this complaint. Due to this issue being safety related, I hope there would be some sort of recall by LG or reimbursement for parts ordered to fix the problem.

The product, in the report: LG gas dryer DLGX2502V
Residential dryer use for LG model DLGX2502V. Lint trap does not effectively prevent lint from bypassing it due to ill fit either from filter itself, housing, or both. This leads to an excessive buildup of lint in unit and vent stack creating unsafe fire hazard. This could adversely affect the control of natural gas by the unit as well. Additionally, the ill fit has a propensity for snagging garments and destroying them during the drying cycle. Have contacted LG customer support several times, #CNM130318939378.

The product, in the report: Gas Dryer
The consumer stated that she is experiencing similar problems with her gas dryer as Release #12-251. Hazard: The gas valve in the recalled dryers can fail to shut off properly, continuing to heat the dryer and its contents after the drying cycle is complete. High temperatures inside and on the exterior surface of the dryers can scorch the drum, as well as burn or damage the dryer contents, posing a risk of burn, fire and smoke inhalation.
The incident started occurring approximately 6 months ago intermittently. (3/11/13) She contacted the gas company and they informed her that her gas lines were operating properly but the gas was emitting from the dryer and they had to turn off the gas due to a fire hazard. 3/12/13 A repair person was contacted and he informed her that she would need a LG technician to service the unit.
3/13/13 The manufacturer was contacted and she was advised that her model was not included in the recall and a technician would be sent out at a cost to her.
The consumer is concerned that this dryer poses a safety hazard and should be included in the recall.

The product, in the report: Gas Dryer
I am writing to you regarding a claim we made to LG regarding a 2006 dryer that burst into flames in our home. Attached is a letter we sent to the Product Liability Assistant Manager, a report from the Mequon Fire Department who responded to the fire, a notice of claim as well as photographs and other correspondence.
The lack of accountability by LG is beyond arrogant and our interaction with them unprofessional. Since no one died or there wasn’t significant damage to our home, according to LG, all is well. I would respectively requesting that someone on your staff investigate or at least make a call to LG’s Product Liability Assistant Manager seeking two things; a prompt independent evaluation of the faulty dryer switch which the fire department found after taking the appliance apart. I would like documentation of this product defect should another family experience this and have even worst consequences. In addition, we are seeking compensation for the loss of a thousand dollar dryer and two hundred dollars of clothing. Not to mention time and clean-up.
They contend that the fire was caused by lint but the fire department clearly identified a faulty switch. We were told that an LG engineer reviewed the photographs (no physical examination was conducted) and it was his determination that the problem was due to lint. We requested to speak to the engineer and were told that he spoke Korean so unless we spoke Korean that would be impossible. Really!!
As you can see from the correspondence, they would prefer to deal with your office as oppose to working with us and taking responsibility for their product defect. I am very concerned that this could happen to another family with much greater consequences and want documentation to demonstrate that we did everything within our power to avoid future harm.
I’m hopeful that inquiries from you office may put them on notice and result in a mutually beneficial resolution. We truly appreciate your time and consideration.

Clothes dryer was running under normal operation. When the dryer alarm went off my wife opened dryer the door to the smell of warm natural gas. From what we have been able to determine the igniter stopped working but gas continued to enter in to the dryer chamber. My concern is if gas continues to fill the dryer chamber and the igniter starts again the dryer will explode.

The product, in the report: 27” Gas Dryer with 7.3 cu. ft. Capacity, 9 Drying Programs, 9 Program Options, SensorDry Option, LED Display and Electronic Controls: Graphite Steel
I have an ongoing safety concern with my LG Gas Dryer (model# DLGX2502V) which remains unresolved since nearly the date of purchase.
Shortly after delivery I noticed a strong smell of gas from the unit, only present while running. I ran all service lines to the appliance with a gas detection monitor and discovered no leaks. While observing the operation of the unit to ascertain the root cause of issue it was quickly determined that the gas control valve was opening after the heating sequence was complete and without the presence of a heat source. As a result the dryer was venting NG through the system and outside the house.
This continues to be an ongoing issue. To which I cannot seem to get resolution. The units were new when purchased, under warranty, under extended service agreement and due to the information below no one would even look at the unit.
NOTE: Due to issues with retailer at the time of purchase, delivery delays, and a concurrent multi-year extended third-party service contract this unit has not been reviewed by any service personnel. That is another monster of a fiasco to which this medium is not an appropriate venue. The short version is relevant however: two-month delay in delivery of unit led to retailer refusing to return unit because it too much time passed since the original purchase date, at purchase retailer improperly recorded service contract information into system which then failed to completely register the third-party service contract (contract shown with third-party provider, but not associated with any devices - third-party was never able to resolve issue; contract has expired), according to retailer LG refused to authorize retailer (Home Depot) to service unit due to presence of third-party agreement even while under manufacturer warranty, LG support contacted via email with no response, LG support contacted via telephone with declaration that there was no defect in unit.

The product, in the report: LG natural gas dryer
While otherwise operating normally and drying clothes, the LG gas dryer model DLGX7188WM pumps raw, non-ignited natural gas into the machine (and the room in which it is located). The odor of natural gas was so strong in my house and backyard that I assumed I had a leak from a broken gas pipe and called the local utility to check the situation. Their technician came and found the LG dryer was the source of the gas, and shut the appliance down. The appliance repairman who came a few days later ran the machine and told me that the following was happening: the igniter heated the gas to the set temperature and then turned off. Then, after a few second delay, the gas valve opens and raw gas is pumped into the drum and out the exhaust hose, hence the gas odor in the backyard where the dryer exhausts. The flow of raw gas does not stop, and the dryer continues to run and dry the clothes because the igniter is operational.
I informed LG of this situation and they took a “report” and said I was the only consumer who had reported this problem. A simple search of the internet proves this to be untrue, as several people have had this problem and reported it to LG. A video of the exact nature of the defect is also posted : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJqzwdBavfw
The defect in this product poses a serious threat to life and property. I believe it should be recalled.
If there is anything I can do to help this investigation, please contact me. This is a dangerous product that people should be made aware of.

The product, in the report: LG Steam Dryer, Model #DLGX2502W
The safety concern is on an LG Steam Dryer -- model #DLGX2502W purchased in February of 2010. The first incident was in February of 2012, where I smelled a gas leak. After confirmation from a gas professional that the leak was not in the line or at the connection, we called an appliance repairman. The leak was at one of the valves. It was replaced and there was confirmation through testing that there was no further leak. 3 months later we smelled gas again. The valve has already burned out... new theory is that there is a defect in the control board that is causing the valves to burn out. A video demonstration on youtube (link attached) demonstrates EXACTLY what is happening to my dryer (this is the exact same model). THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD.. THE WAY THE DRYER IS OPERATING IS TO RELEASE GAS BETWEEN THE FIRE CYCLES. I called LG again (5/22/12) and they claim that there is not a defect (without even bother to investigate my claim or without speaking to my repairman that can provide exact details) and that NO ONE else has called regarding this issue. I find this EXTREMELY hard to believe for 2 reasons: 1) there is a youtube video that documents the issue - filming exactly what I’m seeing in my dryer, and 2) replacement control boards for this model are on back order from LG until June 2012... indicating a part that is in high demand
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJqzwdBavfw
This is a defect in the product that has the potential to cause significant injury or death. LG needs to investigate at the very least, and I think, will find that a recall is in order
