  1. No one hurt

Made Sep 27, 2021, sent to the company Dec 13, 2021, published by CPSC Mar 3, 2022

The product, in the report: Huesbch commercial grade, gas clothes dryer

8/2021: The caller discontinued using the dryer immediately after discovering the problem.

There is a burner box in the back of the dryer, which blows heat into the dryer during use. The burner box is metal and separates the flames from the rest of the dryer. The caller found that there was a hole burned through the metal plate in the rear of the dryer. This could cause the dryer to catch fire. However, the dryer also very close to 2 other dryers. If the fire became hot enough and spread far enough, it could cause the gas line to catch fire and lead to the laundermat also catching fire.

The caller contacted the manufacturer, by dealing with AAxon (Tel: unavailable), who is the licensed distributor for this retailer’s equipment. The caller’s sales rep’s contacted the manufacturer several times, to try and address the matter and have the firm take an in-depth look into this matter.

8/2021: The caller contacted them and they sent out a local technician. The tech. said he had never seen this before. The caller that this is the latest generation of dryers. By this mfr.,, which came out in 2020.

The caller asked the mfr. to take the entire burner box off of the dryer and send it back to their lab. The firm opted not to do that, but said they would send him a new plate to put on the burner box. However, he never received it. He contacted them again, and was told they did not have a part number for the plate.

9/15/2021: The caller did not hear back from the firm, so he told them he was going to file a report with CPSC. All of a sudden, they agreed to send out a technician, from their factory.

9/27/2021: The caller never heard from the firm and believes that they are not addressing a substantial safety issue.

In Summary, this was an accidental fire that occurred when the foam filling of a pillow reached it’s ignition temperature during normal dryer operations. The door to the unit was opened after the dryer had stopped due to the fire introducing oxygen to the fire and allowing it to escape from the dryer drum then spread up and out. Dryer contents were that of an older non-memory foam pillow, 2 decorative pillows filled with a whit synthetic stuffing material and possibly a few small linen items.
