The product, in the report: GE Natural Gas dryer Model GTD33GASKWW Serial ZS810177C

Purchased a GE Dryer for residential use, after first load a strong smell of gas emitted from the unit in an enclosed laundry room in my home. I notified Home Depot, it took a week for the installation crew to inspect the unit, saying a fitting was left loose and they remedied. More fumes from dryer so I called for an emergency gas leak to local utility San Diego Gas & Electric, technician found a leak from within the drum, protocol required him to cap off the line and the unit was RED TAGGED HAZARDOUS DO NOT USE. The unit needs to be removed from my home and replaced with similar value unit.

Fire crews were called to a scene for a report of a dryer fire. On scene responders found a residential style clothes dryer that was overloaded and had melted on the interior of the drum and had charred the clothing. Damage was contained within the drum and the door panel. The dryer is located within a multi unit apartment primarily rented to individuals between the age of 18-24.

The product, in the report: Residential gas clothes dryer

Purchased a new General Electric gas dryer. The dryer is allowing raw gas to enter the drying drum without flame ignition because of a malfunction GE can not determine. Safety sensors are not detecting the no light situation and are allowing the gas to continue to flow into the appliance and into the home unless the dryer is manually shut down.

The product, in the report: GE gas dryer model GTD33GASKW

Gas dryer developed leak about three months after installation. Service technician diagnosed faulty gas valve and replaced it and also the burner unit. Developed leak after two days.n I am concerned that if the gas valve is replaced again that the same problem will occur due to a design flaw.

The product, in the report: G.E. gas dryer Model: HTX24GASKWS. Serial No. FH805794

The first time I used my GE gas dryer, I smelled gas. The dryer is in the basement and gas was smelled in the bedroom above the dryer. I called factory service, and they said it is normal to smell gas when the dryer starts up but if I smelled it more than that, I should call my local gas company. I called National Grid and they came to the house and the technician said the gas dryer was hooked up correctly and that there was no gas leakage anywhere in the gas lines of the house. The dryer cycles on and off, and each time the heat cycles on, I smell gas. This is not normal. I feel that no gas appliance should emit a gas odor at any time. I have had gas dryers for 50 years, and never have had this problem. I am waiting for an appointment from the Factory Service to come and look at the dryer and give me a solution to this problem.

The product, in the report: General Electric Clothes Dryer standalone. Gas. Model: DCLR333GTWW1

The dryer’s lint filter leaves an air gap around the filter that allows lint to pass through the dryer venting system. I contacted GE to let them know of the dryer design, but the technician I met and spoke to said that was normal. That the dryer should be be venting lint through the duct system and pushing lint outdoors. GE seems to believe that the problem is a non-issue since the dryer is old. That is unacceptable as the dryer still is a fire hazard without an above-average maintenance schedule. This air gap was not never fully explained to me, but it seems certain that it is a design flaw. GE has stopped building the parts for the venting part that the filter sits on, however, they need to repair any existing dryers with the air gap issue, by either changing the lint filter part or the part that the lint filter sits on so that lint is not allowed to flow through the dryer venting system.

GE Gas Dryer Fire hazard because of lint accumulations.

On June 27 or 28th, 2013 GE Repair Tech found that the dryer was so hot that he was surprised that they didn’t have a fire and advised them not to use it. He also said that the lint trap was inadequate and the only way to clean out the lint was to go on the roof monthly.

The product, in the report: General Electric gas fired clothing dryer.

Our GE gas dryer (model DPXH46GA4CC) cought on fire inside the housing and under the drum. From my observations this was caused by a build up of dryer lint in the area of the combustion tube. This lint is a product of poor design on GE’s part by attaching the outlet pipe (metal) of the dryer to the outlet of the blower (plastic) that draws air through the dryer drum. This ‘seal’ was made with a 3/4” wide rubber band. This band was not positioned properly over the joint nor was it secured by any type of adhesive. With slight back pressure on the blower and an ill fitting ‘seal’ on this joint lint was forced out of the exhaust duct into the inside of the dryer housing. Over several years this accumulation of lint ended up getting to a critical mass near the open flame within the dryer’s fire tube and ignighted the lint. A flash fire occured within the dryer burning the top layer of the lint deposits in the dryer. The dryer continued to run even while it was being burned on the inside of the housing. Fortunately the underlying lint was packed down enough that it did not catch on fire too. Had this been the case I am sure that the dryer would have started the surrounding areas on fire causing the house to burn down. My wife fortunatley smelled the burning and found the dryer to be smoking and shut it off.
