Hurt, care not known Made May 19, 2021, sent to the company Aug 9, 2021, published by CPSC Aug 23, 2021
The product, in the report: agricultural tractor
Typically with diesel tractors, the exhaust comes through a vertical stack that goes over the rider’s head. However, this tractor’s exhaust fumes exits near the riders foot, which places them directly at risk of inhaling diesel fumes. The consumer said that he cannot operate the tractor for more than an hour, before he gets a headache, which results from the fumes.
3/2021: He called the mfr., but they have not been willing to do anything for him. If the consumer were to modify the exhaust, he’d be voiding the warranty.
He has not used the tractor much, until recently, when the ground dried out.
5/18/2021: He called the manufacturer’s customer service department again today. Their rep. (name unknown), did not have any recommendations, but said they advise owners not to modify the tractor’s exhaust location.
The consumer said that he saw hundreds of similar reports on [REDACTED] (blog).

The product, in the report: Kubota B2650hsd 54368
The hydro-static system sticks in forward and is unsafe. When I am driving my tractor, it will stay in forward even if I take my foot off the peddle. I can usually get it to stop by lifting up on the cruise control.
Kubota claims it is something I broke, have 125 hrs on the tractor. This has been a problem for quite a while, but seems to be getting worse and more frequent.

The product, in the report: This is a Kubota BX25 commpact tractor. It is a 23 hp. 4 wheel drive tractor. It is not a lawn mower, but a compact farm tractor. It was about 6 years old with only about 200 hours of use. It had the front bucket and rear brush hog attached at the time of the fire. It was completely destroyed by the fire.
I have a Kubota BX25 compact tractor that is about 6 years old. Last Friday it spontaneously combusted. It was unattended, had not been used in about 10 days, and the key was not in it. My local fire department said it was an electrical fire. The tractor was completely destroyed by the fire. Again, this tractor had not been used in over 10 days, no one was near it, and it caught fire all by itself.
I have contacted Kubota Corporation and so far have not been helped at all.

The product, in the report: RollOver Protection bar (ROP) on a Kubota L3400 HST
Moving my Kubota L3400 out of a shed the ROP bar struck an overhead beam and collapsed (without damage to the beam). Examination of the failure indicated that either the design of the bar or a defect in its manufacture caused insufficient material to be present to withstand the load and the “lug” ruptured. Had the cause of the contact been an incident in which the ROP bar was intended to provide protection, with any involvement of forward movement, the bar would have been useless (and I would have been killed or severely injured). The problem was reported to Kubota and they “could take my report but could not assist”.

The product, in the report: Kubota L4701 tractor with front loader and 5foot box blade.
My Kubota L4701 tractor is prone to tipping over! The dealer suggested I put water in the rear tires to resolve the problem. Adding the water did help, but the tractor is still very prone to tipping over. I see that on a grade or turning causes the front wheels to lean as much as 4 inches from top to bottom. This has happened several times and I just now have 60 hours of use.

The product, in the report: 2002 Kubota BX220 diesel tractor.
The steering on my Kubota BX2200 tractor fails during operation. I will be traveling and without notice I will lose steering capability. I can turn the steering wheel and the tractor will not turn as needed. The tractor has gone out of control as a result that could have caused great property damage and personal injury. I have been lucky so far. The local dealer informed me that there has been NO service bulletins or recalls issued per his research.

No one hurt Made Jun 23, 2014, sent to the company Jul 1, 2014, published by CPSC Jul 16, 2014
The product, in the report: Kubota BX2230 Compact Tractor
I have been noticing a lot of waandering in the steering wheel. This has been happening quite often. But on June 16, 2014 and on June 21, 2014 while mowing the lawn and other times as well this year I have seen the issue get a lot worse. A couple of times I have pulled the tractor into the garage and almost hit the garage wall and 1 time I did run into the back of my SUV not being able to turn the whell properly. Luckily, I was not hurt, but if the steering on these tractors has a design flaw that will cause many people to experience steering failure, people could be hurt badly.
There is quite a bit of information at: http://www.ssbtractor.com/wwwboard/view_all.cgi?bd=kubota&msg=8684
There needs to be a recall of all Kubota tractors with this faulty steering setup, and a safety replacement for all tractors experiencing the problem, with a NEW, properly engineered steering cylinder.

No one hurt Made Sep 14, 2012, sent to the company Sep 24, 2012, published by CPSC Oct 9, 2012
The product, in the report: Kubota BX2230
In May of 2012, I was driving my kubota BX2230 to a neighbors house about 600 feet down the road.
I noticed a very dangerous “slop” in the steering, but thought the tractor steering was just being very sensitive on a paved surface. I didn’t think much else of the problem until this past week.
Around September 10th, I again noticed “slop” in the steering, this time on grass. After some investigation, it appears that the steering has stopped responding if you turn the steering wheel slightly, or slowly. This “slop” occurs all the time while maintaining a straight line.
Sharp motion appears to temporarily restore steering, but it requires a short, sharp motion to steer.
I have an extremely sharp incline in my back yard which I cannot mow now.

The product, in the report: Kubota BX 2230 Tractor
We have a Kubota BX 2230 Tractor for home use, lawn mowing and light hauling and often the steering goes out. Sometimes it works fine and then all of a sudden you can turn the steering while over and over and no reaction from the tires. We have had it in to our local Kubota dealer in [REDACTED] and they said it was probably due to an issue with the hydraulic system we were having. It’s worse since we got it back.

The product, in the report: 4X2 Tractor
The consumer noticed that when hill towards one side the engine would start to run roughly. Also that the fuel would move to one side of the tractor and cause the engine to misfire.
The manufacturer was contacted on many occasions since 2006. Each time they advised him that they have a fix for the problem, but he would have to cover the expense.
The consumer feels the company should pay for repairs and he should not have to come out of pocket.
The consumer feels that the tractor is safety hazard because if the engine dies he would get stranded.

The product, in the report: 2003 Kubota BX2200 Tractor
The steering went out on our BX2200. This happens anytime the tractor gets warm. The dealer has had the tractor 3 times and not fixed it. We had a very close call with it in December, 2011. We were going down a hill when the steering went out. This caused the tractor to crash into a tree, bending the bucket and breaking the supports on the bucket. Luckily no one was injured.

The product, in the report: Sub Compact Tractor
The summer of 2011 the caller was cutting his lawn with his compact tractor when he turned the wheel and it would turn but if he turned it over and over it would move a bit.
This has happened since the summer of 2011 for approximately 50 times with each incident lasting possibly 5 minutes before it begins working properly again.
Caller states that he hydraulic cylinder seal on piston does not seal, it is bypassing. This seal was revised with tractors manufactured around 2006
Caller would like his tractor successfully repaired at manufacturer expense or at least have the cylinder provided for him to install at manufacturer expense. He states that steering going out is a sever safety issue and that it needs to be recalled before someone is seriously injured.

The steering on my Kubota Tractor is very loose and when you turn it takes 2 to 3 times for the wheels to catch up. This very danerous when you get close to a tree or building and feel you are going to not turn in time to miss it. This probelm has been going on since I bought the unit new in 2005. I just seen this probelm listed on a kubota forum and decided I should report it too.

No one hurt Made May 18, 2011, published by CPSC Jul 22, 2011
The product, in the report: Tractor Loader
Defective welds on Kubota Tractor Loader with potential safety hazards. Model/Serial Number of Loader: LA 681/sn 12135 Description of problem: While doing routine service on my tractor and loader I discovered a number of cracks in the loader left hand side frame around the boom assembly pivot pin and a developing crack in the same area on the right hand side frame. In addition the weld is cracked and part of the frame broken where the left boom cylinder attaches to the boom assembly. This loader is capable of lifting 1499 pounds to a height of 102 inches. Had these defects not been discovered there was the potential for the either the side frame or boom assembly to break or collapse under load endangering the safety of the operator. I have lubricated the loader every ten hours of less as instructed by the Kubota operator’s manual. The manual does not list a recommendation of checking the loader welds for breaks or defects. Either the Kubota dealer or myself have serviced the tractor and loader within the time frame recommended by Kubota. Service records are available. The tractor and loader have not been used commercially and in fact have been used almost exclusively by me for property maintenance. The tractor and loader have a total of 900 hours since new in 1999. An online check of defective welds on Kubota Loaders found an identical problem to mine. A check at the local welding shop found that a Kubota tractor loader had been re-welded there with the same problem. Discussions with Kubota service personnel have not been satisfactory which is why I am reporting this safety hazard to the CPSC. I asked Kubota for service bulletins on this loader and they tell me there are none. The attached photos show the defects:
