The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: 8 HP Kohler Engine on a Gravely Tractor. Engine model: K181S, Engine Spec: 301059, Engine Serial: 2416406982. Tractor Model: 985105, Tractor Serial: 000109

Almost had a large fire due to an unsafe plastic fuel tank design. Kohler has washed it’s hands of the engine business, and the new owner, Rehlko, does not answer the phone. The dealer says “Part unavailable”. The plastic used disintegrates over time and is very very dangerous. I had a lake of gasoline in the shop and was lucky it didn’t catch fire. Lots of things have plastic tanks and don’t do this. The particular plastic used is an epic level of engineering incompetence. There should be a recall for all the K181 series of Kohler engines, where they furnish a tank made of proper plastic for that application.
