The reports, as CPSC published them
Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.
Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: John Deere Compact tractor 2025R model year 2024
While operating tractor and having turned around to look over my shoulder when operating in reverse, my tractor forward/reverse pedals locked up moving forward and would not disengage until after I struck and drove through my garage door. I was able to ultimately determine the cause to be my lower knee area striking the cruise control lever when I had turned around which locked in the cruise control moving the tractor forward and making the tractor pedals unresponsive

No one hurt Made Oct 21, 2024, sent to the company Nov 22, 2024, published by CPSC Dec 9, 2024
The product, in the report: Compact utility tractor
10/15/2023: The consumer was using the tractor, when the front bell crank in the brake linkage failed, causing the tractor to lose braking, This is exactly what was stated in CPSC recall 24-377.
The consumer acted very quickly and was not injured.
(10/2023): He called the dealer and asked if he could get the replacement part. The dealer told him to bring the tractor in, but it would be approximately 3 months before they could work on it. The consumer said he needed the part much sooner, so that he could use his tractor. The dealer ordered the part, and the consumer installed it himself.
(11/22/2024) A repair was done 10-31-2023 prior to recall and contacted the manufacturer after recieving the recall.
The consumer paid $93.61 (with tax) for the part. He also previously worked in the automotive industry and advised the dealer to report this issue to the manufacturer, but they would not.
(10/2024): The consumer recently received the recall noticed 24-377 and contacted the recall company. He was told they would not cover the cost of the part he paid for last year, but that he should not use the tractor.
The consumer said he needed to use the tractor. Their rep. (name unavailable) told him when the part arrives at the dealer, 1.) he could take it in for a repair on that same day, or 2.) they’ll plan to pick up the tractor and repair it that same day and return it.
After seeing CPSC recall noticed, the consumer wanted it documented that a 5th incident occurred but was not reported. He’s also concerned that another failure could occur with the same part, since it was installed nearly a year before the recall.

The product, in the report: This is a 2012 John Deere 5065e tractor. Tractor is 4 wheel drive with an open cab.
The Bottom of the fuel tank on a 2012 John Deere 5065e melted from the heat generated by the transmission it is mounted on. Fuel leaked all over the heated transmission and rear axle. It was fortunate that it did not ignite and cause serious injury to the operator. The poly fuel tank is designed to set directly on top of the transmission with no protection between the tank and transmission. Tractor has 1036 hours on it.

The product, in the report: 1025R Brake Failure (Bellcrank LVU31387: Front Brake Bellcrank) Part Number: LVU31387
John Deere - Deere & Company Cause: 1025R Brake Bellcrank Failure 2018 1025R Tractor Routine task that has taken place since I purchased the tractor in 2018. I was driving down to the barn I engaged the brake and the brake pedal hits the deck and nothing happens. I pump it again and nothing. I tap the reverse pedal, but the engine dies. I have no power and no brake, and I am on a hill. I was on a path with horse corrals on either side and a tack room with a railroad tie (used for securing horses while we tack and untack them). To the right of that is another horse stall. Behind that is another hill that goes down to the bottom tier of the property. I was out of control and tried lowering the rear box blade to slow us down, but it had little effect. I crashed into the railroad tie, which was set in concrete and then hit the tack room. I went into shock.

I was driving a brand new John Deere 105R subcompact tractor in my b backyard when the tractor tipped over and on top of me Ive had many years of experience, driving tractors and nothing like this has ever happened. Just moving dirt in the backyard. I was pinned underneath the tractor for over an hour until my friend stop by and found me. They called 911. Two State Patrol officers came and called the fire department and an ambulance. It took eight firefighters and the two State Patrol and the jaws of life to get the tractor up. The product, in the report: 2021 John Deere 2025R tractor
Brakes failed on a John Deere 2025R tractor. A part of the linkage to the brake pedal broke, causing a crash into a tree. The tractor was parked on a hill with the emergency brake on. The tractor was also in four wheel drive. To start it you have to put the transmission in neutral. When I shifted into neutral to start the engine the tractor took off backwards down the hill and was about to roll when the front bucket caught a tree and stopped it. After the crash I inspected the brake system and a part called a bell crank ( part number LVU31387 ) cracked and failed from normal use. That part in my opinion was poorly designed and should not have been used on this machine. I researched this on the Internet and found that this part has failed a few times. Same part, same exact break. When this part brakes you have no way to stop the tractor and if no one gets kill from this bad brake design it will be a miracle. My opinion is this is a bad brake design and needs to have a recall . This part called a bell crank and is on the newer John Deere 2025R and possibly the 1025R and 1025e. Brakes should never fail from normal use on a newer machine! Ask yourself how many times has your newer car brakes broke from normal use and your car crashes ? For me never!

No one hurt Made Nov 8, 2023, sent to the company Nov 13, 2023, published by CPSC Nov 28, 2023
The product, in the report: The service and parking brakes failed due to failure of the front brake bellcrank that transfers the brake pedal force to the rear brake bellcrank that actuates the wet brakes within the hydrostatic transmission. The front brake bellcrank is a zinc alloy casting that bolts onto the brake pedal shaft with two bolts. The bellcrank failed with two longitudinal fractures about 180 degrees opposed. It appears the bolt hole closest to the bellcrank arm was the stress riser. It appears the failure was brittle failure preceded by plastic deformation. The arm of the bellcrank and the bellcrank connecting arm separated from the brake pedal shaft, preventing brake pedal force from reaching the rear brake bellcrank. The tractor normal slows and stops on level ground if the forward or reverse control pedal is not depressed. Stopping the tractor required lowering the front loader bucket into contact with the ground. The broken front brake bellcrank was given to Blanchard Equipment, Inc., the John Deere dealer from which the tractor was purchased. Their manager stated he would initiate a defect report to be submitted to John Deere. I do not know the status of the defect report or any response to it.
Service and parking brake failure on a 2018 John Deere 1025R sub-compact tractor. The tractor owner was operating the tractor when the brakes failed. The tractor was being used on level ground to move and level loose dirt with the front loader. No injuries resulted from the failure. The tractor was stopped by lowering the front loader into contact with the ground.

Hurt, care not known Made Jun 14, 2022, sent to the company Jul 29, 2022, published by CPSC Aug 12, 2022
The product, in the report: Tractor
I have a John Deere 2025 R Compact Tractor with a front end loader and 4 wheel drive. I was spreading dirt on my property with the 2025 R and this tractor is 11 months old, and garage-kept and not used through the winter months.
While using my tractor the front wheel came completely off of the tractor with the front end loader full of dirt. The Tractor almost flipped completely over. My body lunged forward with the seat belt on and jerked my low back so hard that my back is injured. I am having constant pain in my lower back.
The Dealer refused to repair my tractor. Now can you just imagine if I was loading my tractor on to the trailer and the wheel came off. Or going 8 mph cutting grass and a wheel comes off. Please read this very carefully because in the John Deere reviews this has happened before on the same tractor. One review stated the 2025 R was 13 days old and the front wheel came off. John Deere repaired this tractor and 11 days later the same front wheel came off a second time. Please consider this an unsafe design due to their recommendations to retorque every so many days months and hours. No one ever has to retorque bolts on automobiles unless removed. This design is unsafe because the wheel can come off at any given time. The wheel is mounted with bolts into a threaded hole opposite of any normal wheel, such as a car or truck and many other tractors have threaded studs you put the wheel on and then install a nut.
I am injured and my new tractor is damaged at the cost of $3500.00 and I have 5 year extended warranty Bumper to Bumper coverage that was refused to repair and only 11 months old. This is a $24000.00 tractor with a unsafe wheel application that needs immediate attention before someone gets killed.

The product, in the report: John Deere D105 lawn tractor
John Deere d 105 lawn tractor. Date of manufacture 04/21/2016. Product id [REDACTED]. Our transmission got stuck in reverse while mowing the lawn and we discovered that the transmission had been recalled by John Deere. We called our local dealer and they said the “recall has expired” and would not replace the recalled part without charging us $500. I called the corporate John Deere office who stated that they would not honor the recall because “the recall has long since expired” and we had not registered our tractor when we bought it in 2017.

The product, in the report: John Deere D100 Lawn Tractor
I own a John Deere D-series tractor. I filled the gas tank with gasoline after I used it and the next morning the gas was all over the deck of the mower and floor of the garage. I thought maybe I made a mistake so I filled it again to find the gas was leaking from a hairline fracture in the tank. There is no evidence of impact on the tank it looks as if it just failed on the parting line of the tank. I contacted John Deere and they told me that this is not a safety issue unless “I got burnt using the product”. I completely disagree. The likelihood that the gasoline would ignite is extremely high given the amount and location of the leak.

The product, in the report: John Deere 100 series lawn tractor
I have a John Deere Lawn Tractor, serial number 1GXD100EPCC328347. It has the same problem described in the recall release #11-325 where the blade brake does not engage and the blade continues to spin.
THe brake pad came off the support bracket, and it no longer applied force to the pulley.
I think that this safety recall #11-325 should be expanded to cover the later serial numbers, and that John Deere should consider a redesign of the product to stop this from happening.

The product, in the report: Lawn Tractor
Caller stated that his noticed that his tractor was leaking gas sometime in March. He stated that he was awakened in the middle of the night to an overwhelming gas odor and discovered that most of the fuel had leaked onto the garage floor. This seems that it could have sparked and caused a fire. The manufacturer was contacted and the rep informed him that they were unaware of any recalls and informed him to contact a dealer close to him. He directed the agent to the agency’s website in accordance to Alert #02-517. Although his model and serial number is not affected he is experiencing the same problem.
Caller stated that he contacted the dealer and he advised him that he was having a safety issue and would get back to him about the matter. 4/2015 He stated that he waited for about 2 weeks and called again. He spoke to another rep at the dealer and he was informed that he would get in touch with Supervisor and then contact him. He has not heard from anyone since.
Caller feels that this product is a fire hazard and should be included in a recall.

The product, in the report: JOHN DEERE X540 LAWN TRACTOR IM0X540AVDM090111
Purchased John Deere x540 lawn tractor on April 12, 2014 new from the John Deere Dealership in Washington CH, Oh. Address 1662 U S Route 62, Washington Ch 43160. business phone 1-800-643-7720. [REDACTED] was my sales associate. Item came with a warranty of 48 months or 500 hours, whichever comes first. On September 24, 2014. Tractor caught on fire and was destroyed. Fire crew on hand ruled fire as a electrical malfunction. Returned tractor to dealership on September 26th, 2014. Dealership said John Deere takes fires very seriously. No other correspondence from the Company or a representative of the company have been attempted.
I have made several attempts to get feed back on John Deere tractor as well as the Warranty/or replacement of the tractor. John Deere have made no attempts to give me any further information or replacement of Tractor and no attempt has been made to investigate why tractor caught on fire.
I purchased the same model previously the year before (July 25th, 2013) and had issue of gas leak into crank case of the engine. The dealership fixed this and have no problems with this tractor. Possibility that the two issues may be related.

The product, in the report: Lawntractor
This caller reports that his lawntractor is not recalled with release# 02-517 once the serial number is checked although his model number is on this release. He purchased his tractor 9/16/2000 from Bryan’s ACE Hardware in Interlachen, FL.
The consumer notes the tractor is used infrequently and has low hours for its age.
He states that around September 6th, 2014 after refueling the tractor he noticed that the gas tank had cracked at the top seam and fuel was leaking.
This creates the same hazard as those recalled with release# 02-517 and he is asking that his lawntractor be recalled and repaired.
He is bringing the reasoning to the forefront that possibly units before the recalled productions possibly also have the same flaw.
There have been no injuries
The caller did contact the manufacturer on Monday, September 8th, 2014, spoke with a customer service rep who forwarded the call to a supervisor. The supervisor contacted the caller Tuesday, September 9th, 2014 and advised the caller that his unit is not recalled but that if he took his lawntractor to a John Deere dealer, had it examined, got a report etc. they may fix it, or may not.
He states that this incident involves the same part number as those recalled.
He would like to be reimbursed at manufacturer expense for the cost of the replacement tank he purchased to install himself.
The consumer also notes the replacement tank he purchased via internet arrived, and on 9/20/2014 he installed it. He indicates he is retaining the old (defective) tank.

The product, in the report: John Deere 3032E Compact Tractor
Slowly backing and turning to the left down a hill when the tractor suddenly accelerated to the max reverse ground speed. I quickly hit the brake and forward motion pedal (the tractor is hydrostatically driven and has forward and reverse direction pedals) and the tractor stopped. After the incident I noticed a tree branch had become pinned down by the front tire and had also become entangled in the reverse pedal’s control linkage under the tractor, pulling the pedal forward. Without a fast reaction to the situation, this incident would have overturned the tractor since I was turning and decending the hill.

The product, in the report: John Deere 1025R Compact Tractor
While using the loader on my tractor, the curl back function of the SCR valve will allow the bucket to dump the load when the valve is first cracked open. The bucket needs to have some load for this to happen. John Deere’s answer is to run the tractor at max RPM. This is their simple solution to a bad SCR valve design where the port on one side is larger than the other thus allowing fluid out of one side of the piston before the other port allows fluid into the piston. Deere has a DTAC out on the issue and has re-designed a valve that has solved the issue (reported by other consumers). The problem is the dealerships are taking a very varied approach to this issue where some are refusing to replace the valve and others are doing it. This is a safety issue especially if the consumer is not aware that it will happen with their machine.

The product, in the report: John Deere 1026R
I have a John Deere 1026R Subcompact Tractor. The hydraulic front end loader will malfunction. When you manipulate the joystick to curl the bucket up, it will drop (tilt) forward several inches before curling back up. This is a safety issue as anything in the front end loader bucket can and will drop out causing possible injury and/or damage.
John Deere’s first solution is to tell everyone to operate their tractors as almost full throttle to stop this from happening, but yet they have redesigned the hydraulic control valve to fix the issue.
They refuse to fix everyones tractor, it apparently lies with the dealer you have. If you are fortunate enough to have a good dealer, they will fix the problem, if not, they won’t.
This is a widespread problem as evidenced by the number of posts on-line. Just google “John Deere FBS”. Those of us that have the problem have taken to calling it “Floopy Bucket Syndrome (FBS)”.
Also if you google “DTAC92992” it will show you from John Deere, that they acknolwedge the issue and have re-engineered the parts, but are gettin them to fix it is next to impossible.
The date in the “Incident Date” field is just a date, this is a constant on going problem.
Please help.

The product, in the report: lawn tractor with mounted mower
My grandson was using a model 749 John Deere Lawn Tractor Mower. On this model when you back up you have to pull up the pto control switch to prevent the mower blades shutting off. Because the blades shut off with any pressure on the reverse pedal the tendency is to pull up the pto switch while still moving forward. My grandson apparently did this but because of the proximity of the cruise control switch which is immediately adjacent he accidentally engaged the cruise control. He was approaching a 6 foot drop off and in an attempt to stop he stepped on the reverse pedal, the forward and reverse of the equipment is controlled by pedals. However the cruise control cannot be disengaged this way and he went over the 6 foot wall sustaining a concussion and various injuries. Luckily he is doing fine with no ongoing problems. While I realize that the machine was operated in a manner not consistent with the manual I have concerns with the design because I believe the manner in which the machine is likely to be used this senario could repeat. I feel it was poor design to place the cruise control and the pto switch adjacent such that it is relatively easy to pull up both simultaneously. I also think a natural reaction to stop forward motion is to hit reverse and am concerned that this does not disengage the cruise control. I have reported this incident to John Deere and they have stated they will look into the issues but thought it best I also report here.
