The product, in the report: Maytag Neptune Electric Dryer
We own two Maytag Neptune Electric dryers. Model number MDE6700AYW. The last digits of the serial numbers are 570840GT and 570855GT. The first few characters have been worn off the sticker. These two dryers are stacked on two Maytag Neptune washers. There is an issue with the metal holder within the dryers that holds the power control board (pcb). This part is referred to as a pcb-holder and is listed as part # 35001168. This part became fatigued (I’m assuming from the vibrations of the washer the dryer is stacked upon) and the metal split down the side and the metal box and power control board has fallen onto the rotating drum. The concern here is that when the holder and board falls onto the drum, the board flips over against the drum rubbing the power wires, etc., against the drum as it spins. This has the potential to cause serious electric shock as the rotating drum wears away the wiring’s insulation or other components on the board. Since the power cable comes directly from the outside to this pcb, the full 240-volts and current can make contact with the drum and then anyone who puts their hand or arm into the drum to remove clothes.

The product, in the report: Maytag Neputune Clothes Dryer
Purchased a Maytag Neptune Washer and Dryer from Best Buy in 2001. May 9, 2011 the dryer made a noise, I opened the door there was a flash and bang like a loud pop. Electrical black smoke came from inside the drum and filled the room. I unpluged it and vented the room. Had I not been home it would have been worse.
