The product, in the report: GE Profile Dryer

GE Profile dryer purchased 1 year ago. The dryer lint screen is engineered poorly, which allows too much lint to pass through into the ductwork. I regularly reach down into the dryer cabinet panel to gather as much lint as I can with my fingers. I have reported this to GE via phone and website, with no response. Prior to installing this brand, our ductwork was cleaned out, resulting in only a very small amount of lint from 3 years of use regular use and 11 years of part-time use. Now, after only one year, I am getting a “check vent” light on my dryer. Now, scheduled to have the ductwork cleaned. This is a fire hazard!!!! (not to even mention the EXPENSIVE dryer I purchased)

The product, in the report: GE Profile 7.4 Cubic Feet Smart Aluminized Alloy Drum Electric Dryer (with optional steam function) Model PTD70EBSTWS

I purchased a new GE Profile electric dryer in September of 2024. When I used the dryer, which has a “steam function” which runs water to the dryer through a hose to “steam” clothes dry, leaked from the hose in the back of the dryer and run water around my dryer, through my floor, vents, electrical wiring, and furnace below.

UPDATED ON 12/17/2024: [I identified yesterday that this dryer was mis-wired and did not have the anti-strain clip installed.

Both of these are safety related items. The anti-strain clip prevents the cord from getting cut or damaged during its use.

Previously I communicated that the dryer cord was used and had scuffed marks.

Upon removing this used scuffed cord I identified that the part of the cord that is close to the dryer had pitting, cuts, and additional damage.

I am attaching picture of the additional damage I uncovered when I removed the old cord to put the new one on the machine.

I am also including the correct installation of the wires and anti-strain clip.

[REDACTED] identified that the steam hose (which was not a steam hose, it appears to be two water hoses connected by a Y connector) was not the correct part for the machine then a technician would have been sent out and identified that the other parts are used and damaged, and most likely would have identified that the wiring was not done correctly and the anti-strain kit was not installed. Other households with this defect have yet to be addressed and made safe as a result of [REDACTED] delays in identifying the root cause of the problems with the appliances.

Because the lab is still testing the hose to see if it leaks (I am told) it has been 73 days (and counting) that the installer that installed my machine incorrectly has most likely visiting many other homes and putting those individuals at risk as well.

The wiring area is in the vicinity of the steam hose (that was not a steam hose) which spewed water around both my washer and dryer, exposing me and anyone else whose appliances were installed by this company to the risk of electrocution.

I was the one who advised [REDACTED] who advised the testing lab that the incorrect steam hose (which wasn’t a steam hose) back on November 20. I continue to wait for their response and verification that their “re-test” (based on the information I provided that the root cause of the failure is an incorrect part) is why I am continuing to wait 73 days and counting.

    GE Profile Electric Dryer Fire

A relay on the main PCB Assembly burst into flames, which resulted in burning the board, several components, and the wire harness.

The unit was deemed unrepairable by the GE Service Technician, but this was mainly due to the Control Assembly no longer being available.

I contacted GE and they have scheduled the unit to be picked up for further investigation after I pointed out there are several identical complaints registered on this website, and my assertion this was not a simple component failure, but an actual fire.
