The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 2, 2026, sent to the company Jun 4, 2026, published by CPSC Jun 18, 2026

The product, in the report: GE Appliance Profile Dryer, Carbon Graphite, 7.8 cu. ft. capacity electric dryer, Dimensions H 39 in, W 28 in, D32 in

I purchase GE Appliance Profile Washer and Dryer October 27, 2026. On April 30th the dryer had a catastrophic failure that resulted from a heating coil and controller board failure per [REDACTED] the GE service rep. It overheated scorching top cover paint, shorting the electrical socket causing it to melt the socket, very close to causing a house fire. My wife noticed the burning smell and turned off the dryer. I unplugged the dryer and tripped the breaker to the off position. If the dryer had not been turned off and unplugged it would have cause a house fire. GE has been contacted

The product, in the report: Electric dryer, blue normal size

Product Safety Complaint Electric Dryer Product Category: Clothes Dryer (Electric) Brand: GE Appliances (A Haier Company)Manufacturer: GE Appliances Model Number: PFD87ESPV0RS Serial Number: RA971538G Approximate Purchase Date: October 2025 (approximately 6 months ago) Retailer : Lowe’s

Incident Description I am reporting a potential electrical safety hazard involving a GE Appliances electric dryer. Using a calibrated multimeter (calibration traceable to ISO/IEC 17025 standards), I have confirmed the presence of measurable voltage between the dryer drum and ground. This indicates that an exposed conductive component accessible to the user is energized under normal operating conditions. This condition presents a potential electric shock hazard. The dryer drum is a user-accessible metal surface, and the presence of voltage relative to ground is not consistent with safe operation as would be reasonably expected by a consumer.

Details of Hazard Voltage measured between drum and ground using a calibrated multimeter Measurement was repeatable and consistent Testing performed under normal installed operating conditions No known external wiring faults identified at time of testing Dryer is installed in a standard residential configuration

Injuries or Damage At this time, I myself have been shocked but have not went for evaluation after the fact

Manufacturer Response This issue has been reported directly to GE Appliances. Multiple service visits have been completed without resolution The manufacturer has not provided a written determination regarding the presence of voltage on the drum The manufacturer has not acknowledged whether this condition is considered normal or unsafe Customer service has redirected the issue toward additional standard service visits rather than escalation to a technical or product safety team The manufacturer has declined to provide technical evaluation in writing and has required phone-based communication for escalation

I am able to provide: Measurement data, Photos or video of test setup, Documentation of communications with the manufacturer
