The product, in the report: Electrolux Electric Dryer Model #EFME427UIW0

My electrolux dryer started smoking while using it. The dryer kept running with the smoke coming out of the top right side. I had to unplug it to get it to stop. When I took the top of the dryer off, the control board was scorched along with the wore harness and the inside of the top cover.

Made Jun 3, 2026, sent to the company Jun 12, 2026, published by CPSC Jun 30, 2026

The product, in the report: Electrolux front-load electric dryer, 600 series. Model number: EFME627UIW0. White in color. Standard full-size residential dryer. The unit’s internal control board is labeled with PNC number 916062741003. The dryer was purchased approximately 7 years ago and was used exclusively in a residential household setting for its intended purpose of drying laundry.

An Electrolux front-load electric dryer, model EFME627UIW0 (600 series), approximately 7 years old, experienced an internal electrical fire during normal residential laundry use. A household member noticed a burning smell coming from the dryer during operation and immediately turned it off and unplugged it. Upon inspection after the unit failed to power on, significant fire damage was discovered inside the dryer cabinet. The damage included a completely melted and charred wiring harness connector at the control board, scorched and melted anti-vibration pads, and soot damage to surrounding internal components. The failure appears to be an arc fault at a control board connector. There were no physical injuries. The quick response of the household member in shutting down the appliance prevented what could have been a more serious fire event. Photos of the damage have been retained.

The product, in the report: Clothing dryer

Severe product defect. High-resistance connection at the main wiring harness resulted in an electrical arc, melting the plastic housing and welding the heater relay shut. The dryer experienced a thermal runaway event, continuing to heat aggressively while completely turned off and idle, creating an active fire/smoke hazard that required emergency manual disconnection from the 240V wall outlet to prevent a structure fire.

My Electrolux washer dryer tower drying sensor was replaced by an Electrolux Appliance Technician. After 90 minutes, he left, said it was fixed, then I had my movers push the tower back into the closet and they hooked it up. ( Electrolux technical repair made it clear that they do not move the tower, that it was my responsibility to have it in an open area with access to the back. I paid $300 for my movers. Btw, the repairman was 90 minutes late, therefore I had to pay for my men while they waited .) This was Tuesday July 22nd. Yesterday, July 24th, I put a load into the dryer on Delicate. After 23 minutes, I noticed the dryer had stopped, but still showed remaining time. I opened the dryer, reached in to get lightweight underwear, active wear, bras, etc. and literally BURNED MY HANDS because the clothes were scalding HOT! I dropped them on the ground, waited a few minutes, then quickly grabbed them into a large towel to place on the bed. My adult son couldn’t even touch them because they were burning hot. After 20 minutes, we folded them. So then I put the next delicate load in, thinking I would be extra careful, putting it on ECO DRY and low temperature, however the dryer never started. It was broken. I was up all night thinking what if it had caught fire? Then read that this Electrolux has caught fire many times before. I air dried my sheets overnight and am so afraid to even use the washer!

The product, in the report: Electrolux electric dryer (model EFME427UIW)

My Electrulux electric dryer (model EFME427UIW) experienced a catastrophic failure that could have caused a fire. A relay on the main control board (T9AS1D22-12) failed during normal operation. The failure melted the relay and nearby components, severely damaging the control board and wiring. This is not typical wear and poses a serious safety risk to consumers.

Electrolux dryer caught on fire. I was drying a load of towels and noticed the dryer had turned off. Thinking the towels were done, I opened the front door and smoke came billowing out. I immediately shut the door, ran to my electrical panel in the garage and cut the power to the laundry room. My son and I pulled the dryer away from the wall and unplugged the unit. I also disconnected the dryer vent hose from the unit. The back of the unit was hot to the touch. After it cooled down, we removed the top of the dryer and saw the fire originated from the circuit board at the top of the dryer. Cover is black from fire. No one was injured.

Smelled odd odor and found it was coming from laundry room, specifically the electric clothes dryer. Dryer had stopped and clothes were still damp. Front controls (display) would not turn back on. Smell was distinctly electrical. Next day, disconnected power cord (220v) and removed top cover. Main electronics board which is inside a plastic housing and dryer’s top cover (inside) had black soot all over it. Pictures available.

Dryer wiring harness burned up and charred appliance insulation and shorted out main control board. Appliance repair tech stated that the manufacturer used an underrated wiring harness, which led to overheating and fire. Electrolux dryer model EFME617SIW0 suffered an electrical fire in the control module during normal operation. A burning smell was initially noted outside the room. Upon entering the room, electrical arcing (popping) could be heard inside the unit. Dryer was de-energized by manually tripping the circuit breaker before touching the unit due to the clear and present sound of electrical arcing. Follow up inspection revealed the control board was melted and smoke damage was evident on the inside of the unit’s lid. (See pictures.) No injuries occurred, however, the energized unit could have presented a risk of electrical shock.

I was emptying the lint trap on my electrolux dryer (model:efme627utt2)when the trap encased my finger and cut off circulation to the tip. It took a few seconds to realize my finger tip was traped and pinched within the trap as the top had latched. It then required me to use my free hand and teeth to pry off the lint trap. The finger is still numb, but blood flow has returned. Significant pain, numbness and tingling of the finger pad.

The product, in the report: Electrolux Front Load Clothes Dryer

We had a few loads of clothes that we noticed were burning/melting. The first time it happened we just thought something ended up in the load of laundry other than clothes. After this happened a couple more times, I looked in the dryer and noticed that the back vent (I’m not exactly sure what the correct term is) is black and has something melted to it. I contacted Electrolux and I was told they know that their dryers get to hot and the technicians have a kit for completing the repair. However, I would be required to pay for the repair because it’s out of warranty even though we bought it in Sept/Oct 2016. This is a mute point though. Since this is a known fire hazard and safety issue, these dryers should be RECALLED!! I did an internet search and found many other people who have complained about the same issue confirming that this is an issue with Electrolux dryers.

The product, in the report: Electrolux Electric Dryer

I owned an electrolux dryer which caught fire and damaged the home I was renting. Electrolux has given a vague excuse on why not to accept claim on September 18th, 2014 my home was caught on fire by an electrolux dryer. I was able to get myself and the 3 kids out of the home safely. The home as a whole is still intact but much of what we owned was damaged due to the fire or the heavy smoke damage. I was forced to keep my family of 5 in a hotel for one of the weeks that we were homeless, and the other week I spent on the couches of friends/family while I searched for a place for us to live. I contacted Electrolux and started a claim with them as I did not have renters insurance at the time and they came out and did an evaluation of the damages/incident. I received no answer from anyone at the company for 2 weeks, and in fact called and left voice mails for their representatives to no avail. Last Friday on October 24th I emailed [REDACTED] whom is the VP of Risk Management explaining the situation and the treatment I have received from the company. A representative of his called me on Saturday to tell me that they would not be paying out for the claim, but could not tell me what caused the fire only that “it was not something they would cover”. An independent investigator, fire marshall, and fire department all determined that it was not the fault of lint build up, clogged vent hose or anything that was preventable and that it was indeeed an issue with the dryer. This particular dryer is also one that is part of the current class action suit against Electrolux for dryer fires, of which is going through settlement as I type this.
